  1. CES is generally all crap, but there were some interesting tech announcements around Nvidia and their RTX accelerator software. Using neural encodings for textures achieves way higher levels of texture compression, and they're also bringing radiance caching to "store" previously traced rays and include them in the render. Gonna be a while before we start to see benefits from the tech, but I'm particularly interested in the possibility to upscale and uprez old games
  2. Unfortunately not a good update... Jones' daddy is gonna get to buy infowars back after all https://apnews.com/article/infowars-onion-alex-jones-sandy-hook-74cc3ea85352c468de88486e517c1cc0 Boy howdy I sure am glad the US court system keeps churning out dub's for society. We really are better off with Infowars and Jones going on facing zero repurcussions for the damages from their ongoing disinformation and defamation machine.
  3. Lotta money getting thrown around for hardware and computing clusters, but sitting on the provider side of AI I'm really not seeing any level of uptake from customers that validates the investment. Even the customers that do have a decent level of revenue with genAI are still just in the proof of concept phase after a year Those segments aren't exactly growing in terms of customer uptake though. Their VR hardware is best in class, but I know of more than one person that will just stay out of the space rather than engage more with meta. It'll be interesting to see if their investments pay off, especially since "Metaverse" is lingua-non-grata in the tech space after it went up in flames with NFT's
  4. There's a reason GRUhorn loves it so much and evangelizes for Texas's ongoing subsidy of the network
  5. Have you never met an O&G finance bro before? That mindset is the foundation of their entire industry lol. Uncapped wells spewing H2S out back shoulda told ya
  6. We cyberpunk now, boys
  7. Lol Trump's obsession with Greenland is him dancing along to a Kremlin tune, as always https://euromaidanpress.com/2025/01/13/danish-intelligence-russia-forged-letter-to-spark-trumps-greenland-purchase-bid/
  8. In the software/tech world there's a mountain of bad and shitty patents - the Oracle/Google fight over "APIs" springs to mind as a recent example. Patents by and large have stopped being a mechanism to give inventors a window to profit off their idea, and are now a cudgel used against competitors to drag them down and stop innovation. It's not that patents in and of themselves are a bad thing, but they are THE weapon of choice in effectively killing competition in a durable and sustainable manner
  9. Germany is a decent real world example too, they have some very VERY strident laws on the books with respect to certain groups that contain very fine people
  10. There will a ton fewer "ifs" after January 20th. That is the origin point of the the uncertainty, we really don't know what was lies and what was truth.
  11. The boomers in my life are all on it still, buying low quality shirts to give as Christmas gifts and falling for FB marketplace scams
  12. There's that word again.... Amirite @Incredulity?
  13. Who could have guessed that a guy who made an algorithm to rank the fuckability of his female classmates might be a piece of shit? It's wild that their recent changes to remove fact checking are directly driven by their need to grow engagement. They WANT everyone to argue over the basic fundamental facts of a situation - it drives engagement and clicks and ad revenue. Not to mention that sweet monetizable user data to boot. I had faint hopes of a US version of the GDPR cutting his knees out from under him, but it was folly to hope as much. Dude has too much money to worry about silly things like laws and the consent of his subjects/users/products now
  14. Reagan was the version 1.0 of this sort of fuckery and flaunting of public accountability. Ollie North sends his regards
  15. https://wyofile.com/make-carbon-dioxide-great-again-law-would-ban-carbon-reduction-efforts-in-wyoming/ "Make CO2 great again!" Gimme a fucking break
  16. As the token African American that's pseudo-affiliated with the administration he's OBVIOUSLY just the DEI hire
  17. It's consistent with a loss of power following a bird strike to the engines, and that model of 737 didn't have a battery backup for the flight recorder
  18. Even with fuckin videogames, it's wild.
  19. Frankly he shouldn't have been in that position. Horrible calls by sark to put us in that position in the first place
  20. Couldn't score on 1st and fucking one. Fuck me
