  1. Holy shit trump wouldn't say if did or didn't think the accusing women are liars. The woman reporter he picked is asking real questions and holding his feet to the fire to get a real answer.

How is this a thing that was allowed to happen

The doesn't corroborate her story.....that corroborates that she told someone else the same story. lol

Why would she lie about something like this in a couples therapy session six years ago just to potentially tank a supreme court nomination? If anything, the fact she talked about this in confidence to a therapist so long ago only adds to her credibility, not detracts from it.

I think both parties look like dogshit in this.  The Republicans obviously want to get the seat filled before the midterms.  The Dems obviously want to delay it until after the midterms.  Kavanaugh the SC nominee, Ford his accuser of sexual assault and whatever happened while they were at that party 30+ years ago are incidental to the above concerns.  Throwing out the SC seat and politics, what has been produced that corroborates Ford's story that Kavanaugh sexually assaunted her?  What makes this more than a 30 year old he-said, she-said?

Well for one, we have a factual basis to not believe Kavanaugh based on his history of lying and giving misleading testimony while under oath. Also known as perjury. On top of that, Ford has some corroborating circumstantial evidence which on its own isn't persuasive, but when considered with the rest of what's come out about Kavanaugh (booze hound, Renate alumnus, "I was a virgin through high school"), becomes more believable.

Oh they're gonna look great asking a woman personal questions about whether she was sexually assaulted by Kavanaugh. The democrats will use those sound bites in every mid term election coming up. Even if she's not  be credible it'll still look like old white guys beating up on a helpless woman.  Of course they don't wanna have that on film... or video...or I phone...

So you're saying you think it's a good thing for them to hide behind a hand-picked-definitely-neutral-trust-us prosecutor of sexual assaults to challenge an alleged victims claims? Rather than, oh I don't know, actually putting their face to their actions? That sure sounds like some alpha high energy shit right there.

So you think that Russia is funding a lobbying effort through CRC directly related to the Kavanaugh appointment. The cap isn't a MAGA cap, its a dunce cap.

No, I'm saying that the group that's pushing kavanaugh with commercials also has experience pushing puppet figures and working with authoritarian leaders to subvert democratic norms.

actually, i kind of am. i would prefer the court to move in a conservative manner, with obvious moves like gay marriage progressing society. nobody really wants a packed court in any particular ideology, which is why what the republicans are doing with kavanaugh is stupid and dangerous. because, as ghost points out, the bill comes due. they should've jettisoned this guy and picked another. but they won't.

    which really makes one wonder...why?

I really do think this has to do with trump's insistence on never admitting that he was wrong. It's covered extensively in "Fear" and we saw it first-hand after the NK summit. In trump's mind, to admit that you were wrong or to take a step back is to show weakness.

Christine Blasey Ford has claimed that four other people attended a small gathering at which she was allegedly assaulted by Brett Kavanaugh. Three of those people, PJ Smyth, Mark Judge, and Kavanaugh, have already denied any recollection of attending such a party.

On Saturday night, Leland Ingham Keyser, a classmate of Ford's at the all-girls school Holton-Arms and her final named witness, denied any recollection of attending a party with Brett Kavanaugh.

"Simply put, Ms. Keyser does not know Mr. Kavanaugh and she has no recollection of ever being at a party or gathering where he was present, with, or without, Dr. Ford," lawyer Howard J. Walsh said in a statement sent to the Senate Judiciary Committee.

CNN reports that " Keyser is a lifelong friend of Ford's."

You're citing a publication that's owned by newscorp and contributed to by Tucker Carlson, neither of which are exactly known for their fact based reporting

I have not heard Kavanaugh complain about who is asking the questions, but her team sure is concerned about it.

I don’t think she shows, this was all a stunt to delay the confirmation.

Maybe it's because the party in power who would choose the questioner also have been publicly attacking her character and credibility, and that she may not feel they'll choose a neutral mediator

  9. Can't disagree with you there. Trouble is, crafting a broad and complete reform of public sector pay is significantly more difficult than a one-off fix and would definitely take significantly more time to craft, lobby, and pass. And in the meantime, the people we rely on continue to be paid less than a livable wage. So I completely agree with you that this is a less than ideal solution and does not scale at all, but I don't have faith in a comprehensive solution getting accomplished in the current political climate.

I am not for privatizing the fire department but stating that if pay is too low that they have the right to go get another job.

And if we're paying firefighters so little that the fire dept ends up in a diminished state... Isn't that effectively just privatizing the fire department? If you want a job to be done well, you shouldn't be expecting to pay peanuts for it unless it's actually an easy, simple, fast job.

Free market. Go work in the private sector.

Idk about you, but I'd rather not trust some private sector pukes to put out the fire in/on/around my house, or to pry me out of a car wreck to save my life. I don't want some fucking shareholders that are unaccountable to the public (outside of "MUH FREE MARKET!!!ONE!!!") deciding how they will render critical care or services. Maybe, just maybe, we should pay a good wage for jobs that are absolutely critical to the health of our nation? Like teaching, firefighters, flight controllers, etc?

You don't seem to know what you're talking about.

There is nothing wrong with the FBI relying on the Steele Dossier to get a FISA warrant.

And worth noting - the Steele Dossier was mostly corroborated by the intelligence community and has widely been proven to be accurate. And also, Page's FISA warrant was first filed in 2013, well before the steele dossier.
