  2. They're just applying MBA business tactics to the US federal government. Slash workforce to reduce costs, and then they can get on with the share buybacks, or something.
  3. Sure, but the board validated the claim and banned the performance literally because a male actor was playing, among other roles in the production, a ladybug.
  4. I imagine they're going to be following whatever Miles' lead is, our school board is pretty kookie - they banned a performance of James and the Giant Peach because a MAN was playing a LADYbug (and other characters)

  6. Probably a better thread, but this has been where Centerpoint has been discussed most: https://www.click2houston.com/consumer/2024/11/14/audit-for-major-us-energy-company-centerpoint-after-accusations-its-overcharging-customers-100m-a-year HOUSTON – Major U.S. energy provider CenterPoint Energy is under scrutiny following allegations of overcharging customers by $100 million annually. The Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUC) has approved an audit to examine the company’s spending of taxpayer dollars. The PUC voted Thursday to find a third party to audit CenterPoint. Not only has the energy company been accused of overcharging, they’ve been criticized by customers and the state’s Lt. Governor Dan Patrick for spending $800M to lease 20 massive mobile generators. Fifteen of them have never been used because they’re not all that mobile -- they take days to move. PUC Chairman Thomas Gleeson emphasized the audit will assess CenterPoint’s emergency operations and generator allocation. The audit report is expected by April.
  7. A billionaire using disinformation to steer nations was literally a bond villain plot
  8. You should read a history book of fascist takeovers. It won't be laughably ironic, it will be completely predictable when it happens.
  9. Nvidia put out a new video showing off some of the work in progress - it looks GORGEOUS! They're really putting some effort into making new highrez assets and not just uprezing old stuff. Ravenholm is gonna be creepy as hell
  10. That's bad reporting, from the Post. Here's Reuters coverage: https://www.reuters.com/world/us/fbi-raids-polymarket-ceos-home-seizing-phone-electronics-ny-post-reports-2024-11-13/ Coplan, Polymarket's 26-year-old founder, was roused from his bed at 6 a.m. by FBI agents demanding he give them his electronic devices. The DOJ is investigating Polymarket for allegedly allowing U.S.-based users to bet on the site, Bloomberg News reported Wednesday evening. Polymarket declined to comment on those allegations but a spokesperson said the FBI raid was "obvious political retribution by the outgoing administration against Polymarket for providing a market that correctly called the 2024 presidential election." ... Polymarket, which does not allow trading in the U.S., also gained scrutiny after a mystery French trader, known as the Polymarket whale, made large bets on Trump winning the election. The trader's huge wagers came in tandem with a dramatic rise in Trump's chances on the exchanges. He walked away with more than $46 million in profit. Last week, France's gambling regulator said it was examining whether Polymarket complies with French laws.
  11. That's a wild article, here's something from towards the end: Two incidents have defined Gaetz’s tenure in Congress and helped make him a household name. The first was the Department of Justice’s 2020 investigation into whether he had sex with a minor and violated sex-trafficking laws. Gaetz has repeatedly and vehemently denied the claims. That probe was dropped in early 2023, but the House Ethics Committee is still investigating those claims, as well as others—including allegations that Gaetz shared sexual images with colleagues. One video, multiple sources told me, showed a young woman hula-hooping naked. A former Gaetz staffer told me he had watched from the back seat of a van as another aide showed the hula-hooping video to a member of Congress. “Matt sent this to me, and you’re missing out,” the aide had said. (A spokesperson for Gaetz declined to comment for this article, saying that it “contains verifiable errors and laundered rumors” without identifying any. “Be best,” he wrote.)
  12. Did you know that Peter Theil also grew up in a South African mining family? His family was uranium mining though, not emeralds
  13. Not only that - transactions are processed in 10 minute batches. And if your TX doesn't get picked up in that block, you're stuck waiting for an undefined (but usually just another 10-20 minutes) period of time. Or you can pay ever high TX fees to have a better chance of miners adding your TX to the next block. But, I get it. It's not about utility, it's about making money off of FOMO and creating a new type of unregulated financial instrument that can be leveraged for gains
  14. It does warm my heart to see Ukraine still taking it to the orks https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidaxe/2024/11/13/a-ukrainian-leopard-2-tank-met-a-russian-armored-column-head-on-and-wrecked-it/
  15. Tiktok is one hell of an algorithmic black hole. What you're seeing is wildly different everyone else's feed - the micro targeting is exquisite. God bless Peter Theil and his Palantir for maintaining a data marketplace that enables such wonderful features!
  16. I can't agree with your framing, that prosecuting Jan 6 had to be slow rolled because of concern trolling over """weaponization""". DOJ treated this defendant uniquely and gave him special privileges granted to no other defendant. And yet, the facts plain don't matter. Trump was a VICTIM! Ask Johnny Sack. They'll make something up just for the pretense of creating an investigation. You know, like how Trump asked Zelensky to lie and say they were investigating Biden for fraud. Your framing implies a standard that DOJ should never prosecute anyone that's politically active, for fear of "weaponization" claims. Well it's a good thing thats exactly what we're fucking going to get under trumpco. I can't wait to hear the thorough explanations of how it's correct and proper to see Matt Gaetz manufacturing prosecutions of Anthony Fauci and anyone else that is an "enemy of the people". And since DOJ didn't even get to the fucking starting line on trump, they've set the standard of running a noisy and long investigation for years, while never releasing any evidence, and having that be the norm. What a great fucking precedent to leave for our incoming fascist government.
  17. I guess my point is, they're gearing up to weaponize DOJ anyways, under the accusation it's already happened to them. In 2022, Musk tweeted that his pronouns are "Prosecute/Fauci" https://www.newsweek.com/anthony-fauci-prosecuted-maga-trump-1984607 You continually talk as if the fascists aren't already going a step lower, and that they aren't going to do what they've been accusing everyone else of doing. But the ol' okey doke has been working great so far, let's see where it takes us now that we're locked in on this track.
  18. There would have at least been some court activity in the cases by now. The public would have gotten to see the evidence gathered. Instead, we get another bill barr flavored ratfucking. You're getting twisted around the axel as if a final verdict needs to be reached before there's repercussions and an actual public awareness of what he did. But you're right, this was a far superior approach that has resulted in an ideal outcome. How foolish of me to not trust the process.
  19. Tovarich, is a lie of omission, da?
  20. You'll find no argument from me that Merrick Garland was derelict in his duty as the head of the justice department
  21. Fuck it, Health and Human Services?
  22. Lol balconies got triggered. I can't disagree that our justice system moves too slowly with dangerous predators, but it's not the Democrats throwing sand in those gears.... Republicans have been blocking and tackling any effort of oversight. Keep up hating pedophiles while voting for em, Balcony
  23. From the linked article: The federal sex trafficking investigation that began under Attorney General Bill Barr during Trump’s first term focused on allegations that Gaetz and onetime political ally Joel Greenberg paid underage girls and escorts or offered them gifts in exchange for sex.
  24. That's incorrect. Bill Barr opened the investigation https://apnews.com/article/trump-attorney-general-matt-gaetz-justice-department-9d51501fb6ad5c04b5b4113d3a6a584b
