I’m not so sure our Lefty starter isn’t better than theirs. Sure, theirs had a better statistical outing, but he was also facing our K-happy lineup (who gifts him 2 strikes almost every AB) and not their murderer’s row of .400 hitters.
It’s one thing to work counts and get pitch counts up, but with us, we are quickly getting behind in the count and don’t really have any ability (except for Mendoza & Rodriguez) to foul off good pitches to work up the counts….like LSU and 2024 aggy could do.
Never been a fan of this hitting approach, but can’t complain too much as we are 17-3. Hopefully we can at least go .500 the rest of the way in SEC play with a series win (if not sweep) of aggy, then host a regional and sneak into the CWS.
Schloss will have enough time this year to bring in his type of hitters that fit his approach. In limited time, he was able to get Mendoza, so imagine our lineup with 2-3 more Mendoza-types, and another instant-impact stud freshman like A-Rod…along with whoever we return.
I’m not worried about our future pitching staffs as long as Weiner is here.
