  1. Played out as a rerun of the Tulane - OU game in Sep 2021 until the last Tulane drive (Green Wave turned it over on downs at midfield). Riley kept Mike Stoops after the defensive meltdown in the CFP semi-final Rose Bowl game so we'll see what he does here with Grinch. Stoops was a competent strategist but had terrible people skills so he didn't recruit well or communicate with players. Grinch seems to be well-liked by his players, but his under-performing units with obvious developmental failures make it hard for him to recruit to talent. His strategies make people who know defensive football cringe. The defensive staff has at least one good coach, Shaun Nua. He has produced as a recruiter and developer. The rest of the staff is expendable.
  2. You're correct! Thank you. Bates committed well before Cozart.
  3. You're more on the right track than you know. I think OU's first commit in the class has decommited for the last 4 years. 2020 Drew Sanders 2021 Brock Vandagriff 2022 Luther Burden 2023 Ashton Cozart
  4. My take: Pluses: QB, developmental OL (but not 2023, a year where OU will have to have 4 new starting OL), RB numbers, Edge, LB, DB Deficiencies: High pedigree RB (a position where it frequently translates), HUGE deficit in WR numbers (will need to get from portal and so far haven't), interior DL (a position which was filled with JAGs last year and it showed in poor defensive run efficiency) There was some reporting where 14 of 25 were high school team captains and 13 of 25 are early entry. This is supposed to be taken to mean that the class has high character and will be ready to contribute early. Of course, we'll see.
  5. New definition of 12(th) - Man: picture with a bunch of 12th place finishers and dudes: 12, 12, dude, 12,12,12,dude, 12,12,12, 1, dude Holy shit! What even is this? Serious question. Any random collection of college-aged women has to be better than this.
  6. In his four high school recruiting classes at OU, Riley took 39 offensive players and 47 defensive players (numbers below). He was certainly willing to throw numbers towards building a better defense. He also was willing to slow his offensive to protect his defense. I propose an alternative explanation for Riley's unbalanced success. His offensive success attracts better offensive players who create more great offenses, a virtuous cycle. His defensive coaching hires have sucked at recruiting and developing players so it creates a vicious cycle. Riley could still care about defense but just have the wrong defensive coaches. offense defense 2018 10 13 2019 11 13 2020 12 11 2021 6 10 Doesn't include portal players. But as readers here know, there were fewer back then and databases are incomplete.
  7. I viewed it as a Freudian slip. "Miss" is referring to his girlfriend who is going to OU to play soccer.
  8. Bedenbaugh's OLs have generally improved throughout the season. The 2019 OU OL was good, but it wasn't better by the end of the year. 2000 and 2021 were flat out mediocre beginning to end. The 2022 Sooner OL did get better throughout the year. Problem is, OU's losing 4 out of 5 starters from that line. 2023 is going to be a pivotal year for Bednebaugh. It looks like he's getting back to his preferred style of recruiting TEs and letting S&C bulk them up into OL. Hopefully, it starts to pay dividends next year.
  9. The most obvious sign this is a fake is that OU can't raise 2m for the ENTIRE TEAM, let alone a single safety recruit.
  10. You're telling me you didn't read the skepticism that several OU fans here had about Lebby. @kilroydos, as I remember, and I were definitively against it, and I remember @Constant being lukewarm. I can't remember @ChiTownDoc 's position.
  11. This would be fun. Would Sienema pick Kari Lake or Tulsi Gabberd as her running mate? oh the suspense!
  12. They took the wrong South Carolina tight end.
  13. I looked back 5 yrs because that's most of the players on this team. Good to look back further. The new B12 probably won't have recruiting powerhouses so if they're top 20 consistently, they'll probably be at the top of the conference.
  14. Nah. Here are the numbers. Recruiting 247 4*/total class # cycle rank 2018 25th, 4/24 2019 32nd, 4/27 2020 23rd, 7/20 2021 44th, 3/15 2022 28th, 4/14 Average 30.4 22/100 = 22% Below are 3 teams with similar recruiting that made the playoff. Interestingly, each school only made the CFP once with the coach who took them that year. 2015 Michigan St 2016 Washington 2021 Cincinnati 2022 TCU went 5-1 in one score games. They're ballers and fun to watch. What they've done is special because it's rare. But under the present CFP system, you could expect this to have been a one off year, just like for those other teams. With the new 12 team CFP and OU leaving the the B12 (Sooners won 13 of 23 conference titles since 2000), the rules may change.
  15. You should make a website.
  16. SIXTH year senior who's never played a meaningful down (unless you call field unit meaningful). Should've been asked to leave in 2021. You said it nicer than me. I think he just got too fat to move.
  17. Why not both? You can still have your schadenfreude.
  18. 2023 class hasn't signed. He's already "committed" to 2 schools. Is Coach Prime even going to be at Colorado when he enrolls 2 1/2 years from now?
  19. Weirdest introductory picture ever nominee. Nick Williams smile in this picture is so brilliant!
  20. Harrison is a major loss. The other two are more potential than production.
  21. He's Mormon so maybe not.
  22. Never understood why Riley took Grinch with him to SC. If Riley doesn't dump the defensive staff (except Shaun Nua--he's good), it shows he has a huge blind spot. He looks at analytics and must see how terrible his defensive efficiency numbers are. He looks at film and must see how exposed the shifts leave his defense. This game was a great illustration of how important exceptional QB play is for Riley's offense and how good Caleb Williams is. Prior to his injury, two drives = two TDs. After the injury, ten drives = ten points. Williams improved a lot this year, and his growth mindset makes me think he'll be even better next year. Williams teammates love him. Versus Texas in 2021, Kennedy Brooks had a long run that ended in what appeared to be a fumble. The first person to console Brooks was Williams. I love that his painted nails annoy boomer internet tough guys.
  23. This is the best news. Roof made 500k for what? He didn't coach, recruit, or help with game management. He did bring is son over from App St to take a scholarship and get hurt. At least there's been a course correction. Hopefully they someone innovative.
  24. Even if A&M gives him a blank check, Riley won't take it. Working under Jimbo would be a highly annoying career killer. Riley would be smart to go some place with a good defense, resources, and the need for an offensive mind. Wisconsin, Penn St, ND, ?Clemson, ?Alabama would all be places that could be in the need for his services.
