  1. I think OU and A&M share more culturally than either do with UT. That shared culture was creating a lot of animosity when both were in the Big12, and the rivalry was really heating up. It'll be interesting to see what the pod structure in SEC is. If OU and A&M share a pod, I can see Sooner-Aggie hatefest going to 11.
  2. https://www.baptistmessenger.com/clemson-coach-chavis-recounts-radical-transformation/ This is unsurprising but still worthy of a huge eye roll. The new OU staff is wearing their social views on their sleeve. It may alienate most, but it appears to be attractive to enough players. This is why Lebby was a hypocritical hire. These attitudes are tolerated when teams are winning and in an insular state like Oklahoma. Patty Gasso's doing this for OU softball with great success. We'll see how it play for young men playing football.
  3. Lebby's employment is the #1 example of Venables' hypocrisy.
  4. When initially stated, I agreed. But continuing the usual tacit of allowing players to take other visits hadn't worked out so well for OU. In 2021, prior to Riley's departure, they lost their entire WR class (Burden, Shettron, Hudson). The 2020 class lost 2 players to Bama and 1 to A&M, Ohio St, Oregon, and Miami. So far, there's been surprisingly little evidence of this strict policy dissuading players (1 decommit, Cozart). Despite this policy and apparently limited NIL, the OU recruiting staff is doing remarkably well. That's the point. Venables isn't like that any more. He and those in the program indicate that he's kinder-gentler. The program itself has a whole personal development arm largely staffed by former players. Let's see if it sticks when there is adversity.
  5. Dunno. They're going after Ryan Yaites too. He would also be good. The weird thing is that I can't see OU getting all these guys with an anemic NIL program, regardless of Venables reputation. The information we have on the NIL stuff in Norman indicates that it is just now getting off the ground.
  6. Rumor is that one of the locks is a flip.
  7. I agree, the most buzz is about these guys, but doesn't it seem like a best-case scenario? OU hasn't gotten 3 top 100 players on the defense since 2018. In fact, they've only had 3 in the last 4 years. Vickers, Johnson, and Renaud would make 4 top 100 defenders in Venables first year (LeBlanc is #101 at 247). This is before on-field production and with OU apparently still at an NIL disadvantage. Even without Hicks and Bowen, that would something I'm sure the Coach would drink too. Arguing in favor of your prediction, especially on the DL, they don't seem to many backup options identified.
  8. This will be one of the more fascinating story lines of the next couple of seasons. Handing very, very large sums of money to slightly older basketball players in the 1990s went over so well the NBA Players Association agree to a union contract that prevents it.
  9. I think Venables and Gundy share a lot. They are both excellent, process-driven football coaches who've maximized success that their positions have allowed. Their players mostly have glowing things to say about them. They've also shown themselves to have reactionary social views and have committed some ridiculous faux pas. The OK media has allowed them to get away with it for a number of reasons. There's nothing wrong with being country. I'm country. But being country doesn't explain these coaches social views or podium performances.
  10. That quote is so over the top that it's hard to parody.
  11. Says a dude who's team is coached by a guy who watches OAN
  12. See, he's already meeting expectations!
  13. When did we decide prior prior paradigms govern current practice? Is it typical to have schools in NJ and CA in the same conference? Common sense wouldn't predict it either. When you're flaming people, please recall the context in which the comment was made. @FloridaHorn remains right: How the hell is UCLA supposed to get their womens basketball or volleyball team to Rutgers for a Wednesday night game/match? It is a 5 hour flight in the middle of the week for a college kid. Better yet, how do the equipment bus drivers get the football gear from LA to Happy Valley and back? That is a 40 hour drive cross country. This shit makes no geographical sense.
  14. I was giving examples of schools having other statuses. Az St hockey came to mind. There are other examples, Notre Dame football.
  15. They're independent in hockey.
  16. I admitted it was wrong, and now you want me to search for a wrong report. Thanks, but no. As far as common sense, there are schools that have some sports in one conference and other sports in a different one. BYU, Az St are examples so it wouldn't have been unprecedented. As others here have have said, flying non-revenue sports across the country for mid-week games doesn't make much sense either. The UCLA release specifically mentions this problem.
  17. There was early reporting that other sports weren't moving. UCLA's press release says all sports are moving.
  18. I read somewhere only football and men's basketball are moving. If that's the case, UCLA and SC will probably join the Big West or something in the other sports. The assumption is that, relatively soon, men playing those two sports will be employees of the university, eliminating Title IX concerns for number of scholarships. Why can't the Trojans and Bruins have 2 equipment buses, one for the West Coast and one parked in Indiana?
  19. Venables recruiting approach is very contrarian and without explanation. If he had a job which had real consequence to society, he may have already been fired. Winning swaying players may be what Venables is counting on. He may have convinced himself that he can flip players late based on a playoff appearance plus the relationships he's has supposedly been building with them (while also losing their recruitments). Because the nation's fate doesn't rest on OU football winning or losing, I'm intrigue by this ridiculous strategy. OU's softball coach Patty Gasso's built an idealized version of what he's apparently attempting. She openly states here team does Bible study together and that this bonds them and their purpose. Gasso has also has recruited the #1 high school pitcher AND #1 portal transfer pitcher in the nation the past 2 years, very different from what's happening for OU football. Win or lose, OU's going to be interesting the next few years.
  20. OU's 247 site is the definition of fanboys.
  21. OU's pitching may be better next year with Bahl showing incremental improvement and Storako > Troutwein. There is a path to the offense approximating 2022 also despite Alo's departure. Hansen slumped due to injuries in 2022, and she be ready for 2023. Torres is a better hitter than Johns was at 3rd. Need Sanders to be the 3rd big bat after Jennings and Lyons.
  22. OU needs someone for 1st and 3rd. I was assuming Jennings would slide to 3rd, but if Torres comes, they may move her there? Having Torres probably can't hurt OU's changes for Sanders.
  23. I heard someone several months ago talking about OU wanting to focus NIL resources on 3 sports: football, basketball (men's only), and softball. The Switzer-led initiative had 50k as the baseline for football plays. This seems plausible.
  24. I wonder if May leaves, or if she's content in being #3 again.
  25. Huh, i was wondering what "Stop #1" meant. Thanks for clarifying.
