  1. What you guys are picking up on is the whiplash that occurred on Surly late Nov-early Dec regarding Riley's performance. While Riley was still OU's coach, the consensus here was that his team was in decline. After Riley left, the consensus became OU lost their savior. Riley's a good coach. His team's yearly performance went from playoff-competitive, playoff-not competitive, playoff-blowout, B12 champ-no playoff, B12 3rd place. OU fans were seeing his offense decline from awesome to very good. The defense became average, and that's it. The team had plateaued. Now we get to see what's next. I'm excited. I'm going to follow an OU team that'll be new on both sides of the ball. I'll also follow SC some and Caleb Williams some.
  2. I already bought his t-shirt (see avatar, #tshirtfan), so I think OU's good.
  3. Right now OU has ~ 75 players total right now, including the 2022 class (35 offensive players and 36 defensive players, specialist ~ 5). There will be a couple of more portals. There will be a couple of more high school signees at the February deadline. They have room to take ~ 7 - 10 players from the portal. Taking that many would be a bit of a departure from what Venables stated his policy would be. The really need numbers at WR, TE, OL. OU's taken an OL (from Cal) and TE (Mizzou).
  4. Your response to me pointing out that you lied in a cowardly manner was "take a joke man." You may be rich, and people in America falsely ascribe virtue to people with money. But your response is that of a child. You may appreciate this.
  5. Agreed Expect OU to be in the market for a bunch of WR. Mike Woods just declared for the draft (5th yr guy who transferred from Arkansas). WR room is really thin. Thanks, they resemble C17s
  6. I don't know that he's shown enough to get drafted. Grossly underused last year. OU's down to 4 WRs who contributed last year (that include Mario Williams, who's expected to portal and Mims who's ???).
  7. You're so enraged by Mixon's actions that you support broadcasting them on a thread that has nothing to do with them. One of the posters here put a laughing emoji on the post. Tell me how viewing violence against women now makes things better. Who are you trying to own?
  8. I agree with the general consensus that OU'll take a step back on offense. They lose their starting QB, RB, and will have only 4 WR who've contributed in past (this could quickly drop to 3 or even 2 if Mario Wms or Mims portal). The point for improvement in OL play could come from better conditioning. OU's OL were just plane fat this past year, which made pulling on the GT counter scheme Riley built his offense off of hard to execute. Additionally, defenses have devised responses to the counter scheme which Riley had failed to respond to. Lebby will likely scrap a lot of this in favor of zone scheme that the OL actually executed better in 2021. Brooks, for all of his pluses, didn't have breakaway speed (as UT fans no doubt remember) and was horrid in blitz pickup. There are many examples of him whiffing on blocks or getting dumped into the QBs lap. OU's hopefully going to get better RB play in these areas to improve explosiveness in the running game and pass protection. My point wasn't that OU offense would improve, but these are plausible areas that they could improve.
  9. You know you've made it when @closetojumping feels threatened enough to denigrate and misrepresent you, but also not tag you. His claims and the receipts are all below so you can see for yourself. I guess he twists what I say because he agrees with me or because he thinks he can embarrass me. What is the value of embarrassing people here by misrepresenting them? Some of you may know closetojumping in real life. Is he a name-calling bully who elevates himself by putting others down? Does he misunderstand simple prose or does he just lie about what he hears? He brags about his leadership and power. I know leaders who act like him in real life. I find them childish, and it generally doesn't end well for them. I edited his post, leaving out the name-calling, so it would make sense with what I actually said. You can look up the posts if you want to. They're here. CJT claims quigley said 1) the OU offense will be better without Riley CJT claims quigley said 3) defending Ted Roof as some sort of wizardesque mirage of a DC as a front for Venables 5) Jay Valai will fucking crush it at OU CJT claims quigley said 2) Caleb Williams would have walked on to be at OU 4) repeated obsessive posts about how much he loves Caleb Williams while clearly vacillating offline between sobbing hysterically in a corner and beating the absolute shit out of the Caleb Williams doll he’s been making gentle love to for the past two years Yeah, I did say that Williams would have walked on at OU, because Williams has said this and multiple others around him have too. Do I feel like there may be hyperbole about his desire to be in Norman, sure. But it's been reported. Should we take your word? What I do with my Caleb Williams doll is my business and my business alone.
  10. People make fun of you here sometimes, and it's not right. I should have spoken up in your defense. It's my mistake, and I'll do better next time. Now, you have a choice. Better yourself. Figure out a way to take the original post down.
  11. Maybe you misunderstand me, or maybe your being obtuse. Violence against women is a huge problem. Imagery of violence against women can reinforce it. There's a literature you may not be aware of. Clown on me all you want. Don't bring graphically violent images against women into it.
  12. Call me an asshole, ban me, whatever. I stated my position on Mixon and his actions. There's no one who benefits from seeing violence like this. I've reported the post. Someone got really hurt here. You make it a joke. You should be ashamed of yourself.
  13. I apologize for the confusion. Now, please explain why this thread offended you so much? As your fellow UT fans were debating where Williams would go in several threads, I felt it would be good see if there was a consensus. Hence the poll. Please instruct me. Also, the internet arrows you shoot hurt yourself only, so fire away.
  14. @texifornia @Chuckie Finster Check your sarcasm meter Huck, et al. I panned the Roof hire from the start. ALSO, I am down on the Valai hire too, except for the fact, that did you see OU's CB and their coach? Better is a relative term. I remarked that Bob Stoops is the answer to OU's CB coaching hire. Stoops is certainly the most qualified guy in Norman.
  15. Quite the opposite. I'll remain a Caleb Williams fan, but I'm happy that the drama surrounding him ended with a QB that fits the new offense. Plus OU got Todd Bates today!
  16. If you care to read word, the justification is there. The gutting of the roster is mainly in the defensive front 7, which underachieved this year and is getting massive improvement in coaching. Granted, I don't know Baylor's attrition situation, but with Gabriel (assuming health) + portal DL + portal WR, I think OU will still be one of the favorites in the B12. Long time between now and then.
  17. No and yes. There are definite upgrades at safety, CB, DL, and the DE coach is unproven but promising. Bates will share the DC title with Roof. But regarding Roof. As I said earlier, Roof is the vessel that Venables will use to shape the LBs and defense. This will free Venables to do more head coach-type stuff. What other explanation is there for taking on a 60 yo White dude who's not a recruiter, not a developer, and not known for imaginative schemes?
  18. LOL Williams going to UCLA would be revenge, because going to UCLA right now would not achieve the aims he's stated -- development, winning, NIL. Kelly's contract and it's expiration have been discussed so Williams could be playing for a 3rd coach in 3 years. What QB has Kelly put into the league? DTR never really developed. UCLA hasn't come close to winning its division, let alone it's conference or anything bigger. Going to UCLA would be dissonant with the rest of his decisions.
  19. Venables could improve OU overall as team even with some regression in the offense. Riley's an excellent offensive coach, and he transformed OU's recruiting. But he'd met his ceiling at OU. Riley's offense this year grossly underachieved, and his OL regressed every year since 2017 (that's the year Schmidt left for A&M; we're going to learn if this is correlation or causation). The OL's inability to create running lanes made it hard to punish soft zone defenses. Riley's best defense at OU was during the Covid season, and the performance of that defense was inflated because they really didn't any really good offenses. Venables was a good (maybe not great) hire at OU. This is because even his WORST defenses at OU were better than any Grinch defenses at OU. His defensive staff is MUCH, MUCH better than Grinch and Co at ALL the spots for which we have data. DC: Roof (Venables) >> Grinch (obvious) Safeties: Hall >> Grinch (safeties were consistently OU's weakest group throughout Grinch's tenure) CB: Valai > Manning (Valai need only be average to be better than Manning, how was awful) LB: Roof (Venables) >>> Odom (Venables has been the best LB coach in the country for 20 yrs) DL: Bates >>> Thibs (LOL) DE: Chavis -- Cain (my friend who's a Clemson booster predicted Chavis leaving with Venables when Venables was hired because Chavis is supposedly awesome; Cain is good so this may be a push) The book on Lebby is unwritten. But Lebby won't need to be a savant if his OL is blowing people off the line. Getting Gabriel improves OU's chances to keep Mims, and makes the Sooners attractive to portal WR. I assume Mario Williams is gone too.
  20. You neg me all the time. Please spend your time doing this.
  21. I can't up vote your post because I liked all the Gabriel transfer posts, but this is my feeling too. Todd Bates + Venables + OU NIL/bag = good defense in Norman. Getting a competent QB is nice too.
  22. I chose to believe Lebby was focused on OU recruiting and preparation for 2022 and that without his attention, the Ole Miss offense crumbled. Plus, SEC teams in bowl games don't care unless there's a championship on the line (unless they win of course; then SEC-SEC-SEC) Prove me wrong.
  23. OU already knows what Heupel going solo looks like remember? So Lebby added something positive to that. Kiffin didn't hire Lebby out of charity either. So we're going to learn what Lebby's offense really is. Regarding Lebby's time at Baylor, I've said repeatedly that, even if he wasn't part of the original crime (which posters here say he was), his championing of Briles afterwards was terrible.
