  1. RIP. This is your reminder he put his peanut farm into a trust before taking office, and there was a special counsel appointed to see if anything nefarious was up with the peanut farm and loans that were against it. Contrast that with how things are today. EDIT: And because The Onion can put it so much more eloquently than I: https://theonion.com/you-people-made-me-give-up-my-peanut-farm-before-i-got-1819585048/
  2. Counterpoint: he may be, but he's brilliant in figuring out what 1/3-1/2 of this country wanted, and doing exactly what they wanted to see and hear. All politicians are malleable, but he's set a new standard that may never be matched.
  3. Oh, they will. There will be some new shiny object (trans people, brown people who come to American to become trans, litterboxes in schools, you get the idea) that will force the base to re-focus. EDIT: And Ole' Ron clarifies the point:
  4. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/dec/28/elon-musk-germany-afd-party Elon Musk pens German newspaper opinion piece supporting far-right AfD party Billionaire Trump adviser said his ‘significant investments’ in the country justified his wading into German politics
  5. Cross-posting this from the Trump's America thread, because its a different kind of Leopards Eating Faces. And I'm here for this.

  9. Eh, he will be ok. But there are a looooooooot of soft targets in his orbit. Particularly loud, arrogant, and generally loathsome human pieces of shit targets that won't have the benefit of SS protection 24/7 in his administration. I'm thinking collateral damage.
  10. For at least a decade now, I've read and heard the name Soros as some kind of puppetmaster who was the ills of all society and was secretly running the legislative and executive branches of the federal government (when Dems were in charge). Today, the GOP has their very own version of this; the difference is he's actually running the show and bragging about it. And has no qualms on using his media megaphone in order to inflict as much pain and chaos as possible. And has received billions in government contracts and will use his influence to cripple any potential competitors to his business interests. But tell me all about this Soros bogeyman.
  11. Imagine the hijinks.
  12. But here's the thing: the GOP would willingly embrace and pass a CR double whatever was tanked on Wednesday of this week after January 20, because reasons.
