  1. Hauser's $11 million a year = $60 million (or something like that) a year in tax increases. Also this
  2. The Celtics are simply disregarding taxes at this point.
  3. Well yeah, but at least the shooter's freedoms were not interfered with.
  4. Just got back from 6 nights at Encore. Had both Peter Lugar's and SW this trip, and maybe it was a bad night---but SW was head and shoulders better, both in food and service. Sinatra was outstanding. Spent an evening at a few NBA summer league games, had a cabana at the pool for a couple of days, sat at the lobby bar at Encore for hours splitting a couple of bottles of wine with the missus; you get the idea. The older I get, it's getting harder and harder to find a reason to leave the Wynn/Encore complex during our stay.
  5. Goddamn, the lulz. You aren't wrong, but that ship sailed loooooooooooong ago. To many being great with "tech" means you are great in SEO, social media and other shit. 20 years or so ago we ordered a Cisco PIX and some other hardware from a very large Cisco VAR. They sent an engineer to the site; I met him (it was a Saturday) and he proceeded to unbox stuff, get it squared away, etc. At the time, I was a Windows network administrator. He has his laptop out and is connected to the console port, doing his thing. I notice he's running Win XP home on his laptop. He was whatever the highest level Cisco engineer you could be at the time, and knew his Cisco shit. But in talking, he had absolutely no idea what a Windows AD was, how to disable the nagging "restart for updates" notice he was getting on his laptop, etc. It was baffling to me at the time. Yeah, he had a skillset that was invaluable, but knew very little about the OS on the device he used for his day to day job.
  6. Reporting from the game last night. Crowd was probably 70/30 Lakers fans, with every other team making up the remainder. Upper deck was 95% empty so take that for what it’s worth. Thomas & Mack is a nice arena, large, easy to get around, you get the idea. Sidenote: there were so many fans of the NBA in attendance; I saw nearly every team jersey represented amongst the non-Laker faithful. For those of you wondering, yeah, it could be hella fun to take a trip to catch as many summer league games as you can. Tickets are single price for the entire day at both arenas (we paid $60 a ticket) you can come and go as you please, you can sit nearly anywhere you wish, and the food/beer/booze choices were decent. The kid simply can’t play the game at this level. Physically, he looks the part, but how many 6’ 2” players in the NBA are incapable of bringing the ball up court against token NBA defenses? The Laker fans around us were bitching and moaning constantly when he was on the floor; openly asking why he was getting so many minutes at the expense of others. In the 4th, when he hit his only shot of the game, the arena got loud—-more mocking than anything. It’s gotta be rough on a 19 year old to hear that. On the flip slide, Knect (sp) played a solid game, and he didn’t get nearly the applause and cheering that Bronny did for his one make. To be a Laker on this summer league team and see the playing time, the cheers, etc going to Bronny has to be disheartening. I don’t blame LeBron from doing what he did. Most any of us would get our kid on the company payroll if we could. But it could have been some other team position, because handing 3 guaranteed years to the kid in the most public job the team has was an incredible disservice. But hey, LBJ will throw an assist to the kid in some early season game (or vice versa) and ESPN can milk that for 48 hours or so.
  7. I'm headed to Vegas this weekend for 6 nights of food, pool time, debauchery with the wife, you get the idea. When we saw the Summer League schedule for Monday included a 7:30 pm game between the Celtics and Lakers, it was an instant buy. So, tickets in hand, we are going to witness Bronny's performance in person.
  8. I'm sure it has been mentioned here, but the downsizing of NOAA (and by extension, the National Weather Service) is also listed. I pulled this from Reddit: I am bringing this topic to everyone's attention because this could have serious consequences for NOAA and its subsidiaries (National Weather Service, Storm Prediction Center, National Hurricane Center, etc.) I normally don't get too picky on people joking around on topics in the sub, but this is very serious, so each and every one of you needs to be warned about the consequences of joking around in this topic. Project 2025 Project 2025 is a conservative policy agenda that has gained attention in recent weeks. One of its proposals is to dismantle the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which is a component of the Commerce Department. Here’s what you need to know about Project 2025 and NOAA: What is Project 2025? Project 2025 is a 900-page policy guide that outlines a conservative agenda for a potential second Trump administration. The guide was created by the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank. What does Project 2025 propose for NOAA? According to Project 2025, NOAA should be downsized. The agency’s six offices, including the National Weather Service and National Marine Fisheries Service, are described as “a colossal operation that has become one of the main drivers of the climate change alarm industry and, as such, is harmful to future U.S. prosperity.” Why is NOAA a target? Project 2025 argues that NOAA is a key driver of the “climate change alarm industry” and that its work is “harmful to future U.S. prosperity.” This suggests that the project’s authors believe that NOAA’s research and activities are exaggerated or misleading, and that the agency’s existence is not justified. What would happen if NOAA is dismantled? If NOAA were to be dismantled, it’s likely that many of its functions and responsibilities would be transferred to other agencies or eliminated altogether. This could have significant impacts on the country’s ability to monitor and predict weather patterns, track ocean health, and manage fisheries. What are the implications for climate change research and policy? If Project 2025’s proposal to dismantle NOAA were to be implemented, it could have significant implications for climate change research and policy. NOAA is a key agency for monitoring and understanding climate change, and its research and data are used to inform policy decisions. Without NOAA, the country’s ability to track and respond to climate change would likely be severely impaired. What do experts think about Project 2025’s proposal to dismantle NOAA? Many experts have expressed concerns about Project 2025’s proposal to dismantle NOAA. They argue that the agency plays a critical role in protecting the country’s oceans, coastlines, and natural resources, and that its research and data are essential for informing policy decisions.
  9. Pac-12 is having their media event tonight in Vegas.
  10. Drew Magary rented a cybertruck and drove it around San Francisco for a day. If you are not familiar with Mr. Magary's work, it's a gift that keeps on giving. https://www.sfgate.com/tech/article/drew-magary-cybertruck-review-sf-19561381.php
  11. Enterprise datacenter are air conditioned. This outfit built a bunch of sheds, filled them up with essentially computers that uses air for cooling, and then used large fans to pull and exhaust air into each shed. Everything inside is racked, without cases. Here's an aerial pic. If you zoom in, you can see by my count 14 large fan enclosures on the side of each shed. Now multiply that by how many sheds there are. Here's a closeup of the shed, from a different bitcoin mine in Nebraska: Also, Dan Patrick has seen the light, at least as far as bitcoin operations are concerned. He put this out on the twitters last month:

  14. Earlier today, X suspended one of the two accounts for Popeye's for a terms of service violation. What could a fast food chain possibly do to get suspended on Twitter? Provide coupons for free food. https://www.mashed.com/1618111/popeyes-suspended-twitter-free-boneless-wings/?zsource=yahoo
  15. Well, yeah. And having "friends". And having those "friends" publicly praise him with likes and retweets and phrases like your meme game is strong Oh, and having as many kids as possible, for some reason.
  16. Reason I ask; I get the same thing from time to time. Since the traffic is AT&T, and some websites equate AT&T traffic with their corporate headquarter address, you are considered from "Dallas". I've also had San Francisco and Atlanta considered as where my phone is since AT&T has a datacenters in those two cities as well. Here's a list of all the known AT&T data centers Other websites will do more accurate geolocation and don't rely fully on what datacenter is passing your traffic.
  17. Well, if it is part of his official duties, sure.
