  1. For sure. Presley isn’t enough. Unless they want to include an OF as well and solve both our problems for a net of 3/75 (after they take back Presley) for Arenado, which would be cool I guess. Then, you could trade Framber strictly for prospects or keep him and figure you have at least a conceivable chance at a pennant. Altuve, Yordan, Paredes, Diaz, Lars N, Arrenado, Chas, Pena, Meyers is a better lineup than what we trotted out there most days last year. Costs 100M which is cheaper than last years lineup. And we’d have picked up some salary relief and top prospect in minor leagues. If that’s all we did that would be an ok off season.
  2. Throw in Montero or LMJ along with Presley and that’s a deal for me.
  3. If St. Louis pays half of his salary (either cash or taking back bad contracts for us) that’s a net push money wise. And more reasonable time commitments (not too much- Bregman and too little- Tucker) in line with the rest of the overall roster.
  4. He’s like a bunch of guys at 27- if they have a really great prime (which he was on his way to last year) and then a decent tail where they are productive until 35 or 36 he can get in. Always bet against HoF guy but if the standard is 70 or so WAR to get in that means he needs 45 or 50 over the balance of his career- a couple 7 or 8 war seasons in his 28 and 29 year seasons and then all of a sudden the math looks like 5 war from 30-34 and play until he’s 37 or 38, which is doable. Bet against, but bet against every 27 year old not named Mike Trout or Griffey junior or the like. Arenado I mentioned in October and was my prediction on this pod for “1 move that’s a little surprising”. Santander and Walker would be my dream moves.
  5. You think Framber is getting traded? If you did an OF there it makes sense to call goldy and see if he wants to come home on a 1 year deal. Or a 1/1 with some vesting stuff. Smith to 3rd in 26 or 27 and Paredes to 1st. Personally Walker makes the most sense but if they wanted to sign Santander and then trade Framber for an above average OF and a prospect or 2 and did the Goldy deal I would be absolutely ecstatic.
  6. Kyle Tucker trade podcast is up. After a lot of boring offseason this feels like the one we finally will alter the franchise with. So far, so good. https://open.spotify.com/episode/0riIezcW10ytyy3C4TTxEz?si=n9sEEPDnREGh-J6IEU0nwQ
  7. Baerga says Astros lead for Santander. That would be pretty awesome.
  8. Disagree man. I think this is a good deal.
  9. Bowden is the gm version (fucking moron) of Ortiz.
  10. Well that’s funny. I could explain for 10 paragraphs what I meant in excruciating detail, but will go against type, chuckle and move on. If it’s you against Linux or 52 I will assume you have the right of it, but none of it made sense to me either way. Too black and white I thought.
  11. I don’t know. I don’t even understand what people are arguing about. Was trying to figure that out because my nature is if I read 3 pages of invective back and forth I want to understand what people are saying, but that’s the part of me my wife describes as spectrum adjacent, so whatever.
  12. I sort of do. It’s sort of the worst of all worlds (Bregman gone, pitching gone some, team worse and then Tucker leaving for nothing). So, it’s my fear and expectation I guess.
  13. I guess I don’t understand what the argument is. Is it- this degree is worth an easy show up job in big time corporate America or is it- this should be pretty easy to monetize a little fame into a comfortable 6 figure living if you played but didn’t star at UT? I think anyone that played and had a modicum of name recognition at UT should be set for 6 figures a year for life trading on that fame if they aren’t a screw up (mortgage, real estate, insurance, car sales, regular run of the mill sales, coaching football at the high school level etc) but those are jobs you actually have to do to get that money, even if the fame gets you in the door and the opportunity. And when I say fame I don’t mean VY level fame or even chance mock level fame, I’m talking Beau Trahan type fame. Tucker Dorsey seems like a good analog. 1 year for UT. Played a decent amount, was known, but not even a starter. He got recruited in personally to Keller Williams, went on some pods where he got advertised and I’m sure he’s doing ok. I’d think any kind of professional services/sales job would be like that for a Texas athlete. Thats my world and what I’d do if an athlete wanted entry to that. I know you have a ton of irons in the fire and I’d assume you would do similar for anyone that had interest in one of your worlds, right? Beyond that I don’t understand what people are trying to say. Being quasi famous, even when narrowcasting, is obviously a good thing for a lot of jobs/opportunities/places.
  14. 4.7 on BR in 78 games man. Calling that a 4 win player just isn’t accurate characterization of him. He’s really likely to be a 6 war player in his 1 year under club control. As I said- I agree with your valuation completely.
  15. Calling Tucker a 4 win player sort of minimizes him- he’s more like a 6 war player based upon track record and where he’s at in the aging curve (dead ass prime) next year (if healthy- which he always has been absent freak occurrence last year) with probably a chance to have an mvp type season. Sucks for him that last year might have been his mvp type career season (almost 5 war while missing half the season) but he gapped to get hurt. all that said- completely agree with your take.
  16. Fair. We didn’t extend any of them early where we get all of their prime on 1 deal like the Braves, rays, Mariners and some others have done. They were all half measures with a couple years bought out, a couple years from FA. Risk adverse stuff from the club. We got Altuve entire prime because we extended him 3 times I think- but the others all went once and half measures. But, that is minimizing the fact that we did have some guys not walk along with those that did.
  17. It can. We’ve done a shitty job of extending our young guys early. I hope that changes.
  18. Last rate cut of 50 bips the national average for mortgage rates went from 6.1 to 7.1 over the next 30 days. That was fun.
  19. Spider banana calls that Tuesday.
  20. I don’t hate this idea either. you can even jump start a rebuild with cash ala the Mets when you decide to trade away assets. Hader 3/60 could get dealt for not much. Hader +40M gets you a couple top 100 prospects. Rinse and repeat as a for example. It doesn’t have to be as bleak as it was last time. If you take your shot now and fail and then decide you have to pull the cord because you aren’t good enough.
  21. Fucking Ortiz is worthless. Expect it to not happen and if it does not be cubs or yanks.
  22. Mine went from 2200 to 5100. That was fun.
  23. I miss him every day since he’s been gone.
  24. Then we should sign Bregman for 8 and Tucker for 10.
