Houston Astros 2025 Season Thread
It’s a broken bone. He should be called up to pitch his 60 pitches or whatever he’s up to next Friday to begin the homestand. He can piggyback with LMJ and combined they can get through 6 innings (maybe).

I didn’t think he was even on the national champs. That he installed and jetted, but that’s can’t be right now that I think about it. Someone left after a year- right?

If you are from the future. It’s 1-6 since the dodgers series right now, but likely to be 1-7 in about 10 hours.

Roster retention thread of awesomeness- crowd source every schools most painful transfer portal losses
Yeah. I’d love to know the actual OSU take on that one how hard (if?) they tried for retention. My sense was they were just loading up talent and figuring they’d have an open tryout and everyone who didn’t win could fuck right off and once Quinn reclassified and they liked their guy they didn’t care all that much about Quinn, but that’s me making assumptions and surmising not anything I know.

Careful what you wish for I guess. I didn’t think Beck was good- it just seems ballsy to push a guy out when you have total and complete abject shit behind him.

Yeah- I assume everyone we signed the other team would have been happy to retain, I just wonder how many guys we got that would “top the list” from the other school. off the top of my head I’d say arguments for: Mitchell- Gerogia Makuba- Clemson Hero or Quinn- tOSU (I know they wanted to keep him/ I don’t know who else they’ve lost that they wanted to keep to the transfer portal) I suspect they would have liked to keep Quinn but when the other guy hit maybe didn’t want to spend those resources? Moore- UTSA DT- Syracuse. He was a Freshman AA at the hardest sport to recruit- they damn sure wanted to keep him- but have they lost anyone worse? Endies- Cal? Don’t know who else they’ve lost that might be more major but a projected second string AA has to be pretty high on the “ouch that hurt” scale.

Ideally, and I think it would be fun- we could have like top 5 or whatever players from every school in America. So subpar to mid definitely fits in the spirit of this thread. 20 or so posts in my take is still that Texas has no names on the list. Some of this is really interesting in things like- oh Gabriel is a big loss right? Oh, Oklahoma shoved him out the door? If you weren’t plugged in your probably didn’t know that. If you are plugged in and saw Jackson Arnold sucking you might know it but not understand it- but there’s some subtleties that fans of the school might have more insight into than us.

I mean, was he? So they could get Stockton as a starter? I think you might be right but it doesn’t make any sense at all.

Stockton was pretty awful for them. It’s very like if we replaced Quinn Ewers with all his limitations with Heard or something like that.

I love the fact that you are arguing for tons of incompletions being a good thing because no matter what goes bad, life can always get worse. it’s a wonderful bit.

Chas instead of Trammel and I guess that lineup would be the best we could run out there. Maybe. It’s all pretty mid.

Uh, yeah. This is why we need to crowd source. Also- an interesting point- any coaching regime change is going to be where you probably see the most brutal action in the portal. It's amazing the "talent" drain they've had at QB the last 5 years.

Nahlin has been raving about him for a year. I don't see it. He seems like he should be a tertiary weapon at best for a good offense. If he is a dude that goes on the first 2 days in this years draft (to be clear I'm betting against) this offense is going to fuck.

Was talking about this with a buddy the other day, and I kind of feel like Texas is the only school that has not had a single loss to the transfer portal of a guy that they were seriously intent on keeping or had plans for in the context of their team the next year. I don't care that Xavier Alford went on to be an all conference player somewhere else. Conversely, if Arch transferred and was a total and complete bust I don't care about that either. Alford doesn't count and we didn't work really hard to keep him. Kudos to becoming a better player with more opportunity somewhere else. Arch would absolutely count b/c we would obviously want to keep him- it doesn't matter if he went somewhere else and busted. Make sense? Texas- can't think of a single player we lost that we had plans for an wanted to keep Alabama- Downs, Bond, who else Georgia- AD Mitchell, Carson Beck (I think- stockton seems like he sucks I don't think they wanted him over Beck but- maybe???) Ohio State- Hero Kanu (he was absolutely planned for in their two deep going into this year- right)- I know they were pissed when they lost him. Quinn Ewers? Did tOSU want to keep him at the time? Try hard? aggy- too many to list, probably, but then again most of them sucked. Walter Nolen? Who else have the lost that's good. Oklahoma- Dillon Gabriel? I guess maybe he doesn't count as they didn't try to retain him b/c ----> Jackson Arnold? I guess he doesn't count either as they didn't try to retain him (probably). Ooof their development of players has sucked- you hate to see it. Who you got as OU's biggest transfer loss they wanted to keep? LSU- Michigan Domers USC-w Oregon Cal- Endies? Pick any school you like. If this trend continues of us never losing anyone we try to retain (it can't continue forever- right) and picking up guys from other schools that represent the best of their exPorts I like where our roster management will be, basically, forever. I don't think we've lost any like I said. Maybe I'm forgetting someone. I know we had a couple close calls. Also- I wonder how many guys we ended up getting that were other schools major losses?

Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: Boulevard of Broken Bagmen
Yes. I'd rather go spread early and try to throw or QB draw in, or normal formation and zone read than go jumbo, personally. And yes the fade route needs to be killed with fire down there. Shovel pass also seems like it ought to work pretty often and be a decent constraint play if your wide receivers can't win in a small space regularly in the end zone. RB flairs. Seems like if Arch can be helpful we can run a lot more normal offense and it shouldn't be a big problem. Quinn's immobility and our OL being better at pass blocking in than run blocking was the main problem, imo, down there. Will be interesting to see what personnel differences do to this issue.

I mean, it's probably as simple as a solid zone read and/or QB draw play with a big and capable athlete at QB will solve like 50% or more of the problem, right?

He's making 2M a year as a defensive coordinator who doesn't have to recruit and has a huge resource advantage over 75% of the schedule that he plays. I can't imagine a job that I'd be less likely to leave.

When I went from a great big fatass to sub 200 pounds after my fat surgery I can't eat anything bread related. My Pizza now consists of fucking thin cauliflower crust with fake peperoni on it. I would kill everyone in here except for Sydney to eat half a deep dish pizza. Sydney is spared b/c I just learned he's a cat guy, of course.

NIL Recruiting News Megathread
I would assume that's why Texas One is staying independent? Or at least a large driver of that? So that if/when everyone says "just kidding- the collectives can still pay whatever they want to on top of the school revenue share" we will have fully established that UT kicks in 20M for student athlete salaries and the collectives drive the number higher so we can get all the 5 stars that Tech or Baylor won't deign to sign?
