Got the deep dive up on if pitchers have been getting lucky. As with the hitters article from last week I came away happy after writing it and don't see anything unsustainable in there. If anything, the pitching has been better than you probably think it has been and will likely be even better going forward (if guys keep pitching like this).

Did one on how the bullpen got to Houston that I thought was interesting.
did a deep dive on pitching today that will be up tomorrow. I had no agenda when I started writing it. Like the hitting, I’m concluding that what we are doing is sustainable and we aren’t getting lucky.
Most of the history of franchise you probably only rostered 9 or 10 pitchers, right?
The fact that we have 7 out of 13 pitchers that are LH is pretty incredible.
And the reverse jinx for the win there.
I mean- a line drive- a roller that was a little unlucky on placement and an infield hit. Not horrible pitching to load the bases.
Eh- he’s been pretty lucky but I think he’s leveled up from a 4 win guy to a 6 win guy.
5/105 seems pretty steep but I’d do it. He’s looking at about 30 in his last 2 arb years so that’s 3/75 for his FA years. That’s generational wealth for him and if he’s still good at the end of that contract he could probably get another 5/100. If not he’s really rich and that’s guaranteed.
So- this is a pretty amazing number…
the Astros are something like 15-24 when scoring 3 or fewer runs.
that’s a 61 win pace. Most teams win at like a 30 game pace scoring 3 or less.
Not really. He might have the title but the M and M boys are in charge of everything pitching in the r tire organization down through the minor leagues. I’m not saying he’s not good (I have no idea if he is or not) but he’s a guy tasked with implementing not being in charge of big picture strategery.
So I was joking about taking credit for the Durant to Rockets trade but I did talk to Ishbia about it and asked him if his picks back and salary cap matching would be something they would do.
He said “fuck those picks I don’t want them back we are going to be good and they are going to suck”.
Obviously he got this years pick back but that was already a known quantity. That’s his thought process- not saying he’s right.
Just so yall know I made this deal happen. I had 5 minutes with Ishbia last month and told him he needed to trade KD to the Rockets. Now, KD is with the Rockets.
You are all welcome.
