  2. I'm working on a bill now where we would be playing with a band called the Effits , seams fitting.

  4. That's about the size of it. It's all about the drums, then they hide the poor guy in the back.
  5. Well, exactly why I like this band! After posting here I decided to reach out to Casey about it. This is a solid response.
  6. Honestly, it was mostly women from the beach town where we rehearse and i felt like one of them was flirting w me pretty stong right in front of my girlfriend when we were down there for a party a few weeks ago! [emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787] Maybe he's an incredible bass player and i can find a way for the V to contribute! Honestly hope so, I really like being in The Koffs. Great guys to be around. I genuinely like them and I like being associated with them, I just dont want to be in a shitty band.
  7. Ya, coincidently most of the Dirty Years crew was already planning jamming tonight for the 1st time in ages. Plus I've got a whole cannon of shit that I've been half ass finishing with a great drummer that's lost momentum. That stalled for a few reasons including not finding the right bass player. It finally hit me that I'm the bass player and it's either a recording only project where I play guitars, or I find a guitar player. Guitar players are easy to cone by.
  8. Funny you say that, my 1st thought was a Tele, and quickly realized the V into a Marshall would be the proper match to his Mustang into a Fender combo. Who knows, I've only met the guy once and he's great. But I had several people tell me I was a big improvement on bass over him after our 1st handful of shows and I've gotten way better in my parts since then. Maybe he'll be fine, but I'm against anything that doesn't make us better. I dont wanna be in a shitty band.
  9. Our guitar player bought one of those Fireflys as a back up he says. It sounded like shit. We all asked him to not play it in practice anymore it sounded so bad. I think he's half deaf cause he refuses to wear ear protection. Speaking The Koffs, my biggest fear with that band has been realized. Last night the singer blasts out in our group text that the founder and original bass player is moving back, so I can move to lead guitar! I'm glad they have enough respect that they don't wanna lose me, but I dont think i want to play guitar in that band. We don't need another guitar and frankly, imo, I'm a pretty good bass player and I think I make those guys sound better than they are. I dont wanna be sitting there playing an unnecessary guitar while listening and second guessing a bass player who's not better than me - fucking up all the parts I spent the last year and a half developing. That was a good run of no drama The Koffs had. I guess we'll see how it plays out. We are supposed to fonally record in a couple weeks, but I'm not sure I wanna record the bass parts if I'm not gonna be the bassist.

  17. Haha. Twice now I've played shows after ingesting mushrooms. Once at a Halloween party with Dirty Years and once at a pretty decent sized venue with a good crowd wirh The Koffs. It's like acrobatics without a net! I don't know that I'd recommend it, but I can't promise it won't happen again. In 1993 I was a young parent if soon to be two. There wasn't much time or money for shows in those days. I'm still catching up on the 90's.
  18. You gotta remember that I'm a transplant here of 10 years now. Like Jimmy, I was only really familiar with Jerry, and the Beaver one, from Primus. In fact, I walked into the Frog Brigade show with no idea what to expect and only recognized the Pink Floyd covers. They completely blew my mind, and the mushrooms we ate beforehand didn't hurt!
  19. 1st time seeing Les. Primus comes through in the Spring and I intend to be there. I believe he lives around here too.
  20. It blew my mind. The only thing i ever heard that sounded as big and full was Devo a few years ago, and I get to see them again in a couple weeks. BTW, @jimmyjazz , one of the other bands I saw in that 5 show marathon was your daughter's. While maybe not as mind blowing as Les Claypool, my friends and I all thought they were better than the headliner (Amyl and the Sniffers) and the crowd in the GA level of Oakland's Fox Theater seamed to agree. Super fun set.
  21. He was fantastic. Most people around us were on their 3rd show in a row, "you can't see just one, you never knownwhat he's gonna do!" He played a about 3 hrs with a decent intermission in the middle. I thought he peaked toward the end of the 1st set and beginning 2nd, then he got a little too jam-band me for me. Come on Billy, you've been playing the same damn scale over the same progression for 8 minutes - Get on with it! Finally, he won me back with Runnin' on Empty and the encore was fantastic. That said, the way things stacked up I ended up at 5 different shows that week and seeing Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade a couple nights later wiped the floor with anything else I've seen. That was music like I never knew it could be. I'm still buzzing from that show. One highlight, about halfway through the show he plays "Pigs on the Wing Pt 1", then proceeded to play the entire Animals album in its entirety note for note before going back i to his own catalog. Ill never miss another Les Claypool show.

  23. I finally saw Billy Strings a couple weeks ago and was stoked when he covered that song toward the end of his set. I saw Jackson Browne himself about a year prior, that was a treat. I've always thought that's an incredibly well written song. It's funny, I went to both those shows with the same friend and one was on the UC Berkeley campus and the other on the Stanford campus. Ampitheaters both.
