  4. I remember it was on guitar because I saw your Matchless on stage, so positioned myself over there. You all came out and you were 1st and just started strumming some chord like you were doing a little sound check, but it turned out to be an intro when everybody else jumped in. What we do is different and goes on a lot longer, but the idea is the same. I also remember that I drove about an hour and a half to that show through the pouring rain, white knuckling it through the Santa Cruz mountains and smoked a joint to calm down when I got there, my memory may be fuzzy. Thats the only time I met CM face to face. He was on tour so long he barely knew where he was. We were in Santa Cruz and he seemed to be surprized that it was that near San Francisco. /csb Ill listen to the track when I get to some speakers. I hate phone speakers.
  5. We open with that one live and I'll go on stage and start playing those 3 bass notes super slow while the house music is still on and people are still outside smoking or whatnot, kinda acting like I'm just tuning or dialing in my amp something. Just dronie / monotonous for as long as it takes for anybody else to reach the stage. Then Andy starts doing the same on guitar, just making ugly ambient sounds and our singer will start saying stuff through the mic. Then we'll make eye contact at some point and Jo hits the ride and Rocky starts singing that somber line and people kinda realize we've started after they are already waist deep in it. I stole the idea when I saw @Celery Man do a similar thing on guitar with his old band at the beginning of their show. Plus our drummer is a beginner, so it helps her come in easy.
  6. Here's some shitty punk rock we recorded back in March and just got back finally. Listen to Dirty Years by Racer5 #np on #SoundCloud I play guitar on the 1st and last track, and bass on the 2 muddle ones.

  8. They've been copying them since 1959. It should be criminal.
  9. We are kindred in that regard. Im not a signature / relic guy so I didn't go that route, but my DuoJet is a red, '63RI double cut, which is exactly what Malcolm's was before he molded the hell out of it.
  10. I've had a Mark V that I had a love hate relationship with, and I passed on an opportunity to buy our drummer's wife's Dual Rectifier cheap when they moved away. They're great amps for what they do. I played with that DR a ton and couldn't get my sound out of it. I like that open, organic 70's type crunch and those things are like a more focused, gain crunch. I wish they worked for me since they built here in Northern California. The last show I was part of I played a Gretsch DuoJet into Twin Reverb with the Shaggy Screamer in between. Afterwards, this younger guy I know, who a wonderful musician in one my favorite local bands, was telling me how much he loved my sound. He said he had no better way to describe it other than pure Rock and Roll! Ill take it! It's those FilterTrons I keep going on about.
  11. I'm going mostly by paying attention to guys whos sound is something i'm after at venues the size of the ones I play - like 75 to 350 capacity venues. A friend who I share studio space with has a JCM800 in there and I can get good sound of it at lower volumes than I can from that 1987x, I think im gonna ask to borrow it for a show we have at the end of August. By no means am I looking for quite. In this room coming up the 1987x would be fine.
  12. Actually tbone pointed it out from a picture I'd taken of the guitar player in Blondie recently. I am semi in the market for a new head, but I dont have an urgent need so its been on the back burner. I think i want to spend some time with a JCM 800 and a EVH 5150, I dont think Soldano is in my future. I like the sound of my Marshall 1987x, but I have to crank it too loud to get the crunch im after. I want something with a master volume. Anybody have recommendations on bass pedals? I've never used one. The backline is being provided in Vegas and I have no idea what the bass amp will be. Im hoping to carry a pedal where I can dial in my sound, then just set what ever amp is there to clean. Thats what I do for my guitar parts with my Shaggy Screamer in Dirty Years. I never bring an amp, I just run through the SS into whatever amp happens to be there.

  21. Cliche yes, but come to San Francisco. I'm a cis, hetero, male. A large percentage of my inner circle is LGBTQ. Half of them are here because they were passing through at some point for whatever reason, and just never left. They were home. It's not perfect by any means, but I think we have an exceptionally inclusive community. Im happy to be part of it. I think the same can be said in San Diego or LA, I have close friends living happily in both. If you're not a dick they will.

  24. If this was just one off the shelf someplace you'de shrug it off. This was missed, got past whatever QC they have at that plant, all the way to being featured on their website... a d its still there! If it was just a one off hanging on a rack somewhere you'd just suggest it off. On the partscasters I've built, and for the replacement tuners I installed on a G-Force'd Gibson, I have a method. I install them with the bushings and nuts finger tight, then use this magnetic straight edge on a level I own to line everything up perfect before drilling anything. Im not mass producing or anything, but if I can come up with a simple idea like that you'd expect Fender to have a jig or something to line them up straight every single time. Its just a small off at the screw point, but transfers to a pretty significant off once you get to the actual bean tuner. Or maybe its their calculated move to get you to spend the extra dough for a Fender USA.
