  1. We got back the 1st mix of a song from the Dirty Years recording sessions we did a few weeks ago. Im stoked on it. This is my Gretsch DuoJet plugged into my dimed Marshall Class 5 with a Shaggy Screamer in between. Like it or not, this is the sound im after. Bright and bitey on the highs, chunky in the bassie rhythms. Listen to Dirty Years Everybody 2.0 by Racer5 #np on #SoundCloud
  2. Brian Jonestown Massacre was probably the best show I've seen this year. Incredible.
  3. I have 2 of those Champ 600s, both aren't working right presently. I did the handwire conversion I found on TDPRI to one. It sounded great for a while, but now its all fizzy and pops. I took the other apart for some reason I can't recall. I dont know if I should just put it back together or figure out why I took it apart? I think my idea was to build a cabinet with a 10" speaker for it.
  4. Black MIDI was fantastic. At 53, I'm used to being the old guy at at a show, but my 32yo buddy got to experience it for then1st time last night. I felt like his spirit guide!
  5. I got a good clue on guess 2. Wordle 304 3/6* [emoji834][emoji834][emoji834][emoji834]🟨 [emoji834]🟩[emoji834]🟩🟨 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
  6. I've been on a bender of about 3 shows a week, big and small, for the last several weeks. I had Mike Campbell and Dirty Knobs Saturday, Black midi in Berkeley tomorrow, then Brian Jonestown Massacre Thursday at the Fillmore. Im gonna take the weekend off.
  7. My girlfriend lives in a house that has damn near exactly this oven stack.
  8. There isn't much to tell. It wasn't a guitar show like a TBatHB's concert. It was more like a Mudcrutch show. He started out playing the white Thunderbird in the picture I posted. He broke a string on the 2nd song and that seemed to really throw him off. He switched to a Duesenberg Les Paul mid-song. He must've had some alt-tunings in place because the next couple songs where straight up rockers and he kept commenting that the broken string had blown up his set list. Finally the Firebird came back out, but there was another one identical to it that he kept was witching between. They were identical except that one had an autograph from somebody behind the bridge. For one song he had the whole band on matching white Firebirds, it was kind of a ZZ Top moment. The whole show he kept talking about the set list thing, and they played a lot of stuff I don't think they had planned to. He came back with the Duesenberg for the encore. I think they played 4 TP songs w/ Mike putting his own take on all of them except "You Wreck Me", they rocked the fuck outta that song.
  9. I have friends in 2 bands on this bill. My friend Mike fronts Slough Feg, or more accurately "The Lord Weird Slough Feg", from San Francisco. I saw them Thursday night as they broke in another friend, Austin, as his 1st gig as their new drummer in preparation for the Houston Festival show. Mike is an over the top maniac on stage. Incredible guitar player who definitely doesn't take it too seriously to say the least. Austin killed it on drums, they will be fun. I'm a huge War Cloud fan. They relocated from Oakland to Austin at the start of the pandemic. My friend Alex fronts that band, he just got married yesterday, I stayed with them when I was in Austin last month. The band is reminiscent of early 80's Thrash, landing somewhere between Metallica and Iron Maiden with twin lead guitars. Alex very gentle, nice young carpenter who somehow transformers into a total madman on stage. I've never seen a bad War Cloud show.
  10. I went and saw this band last night. Good Rock and Roll show.

  12. I have it. Its in good hands.
  13. Straight up trolling l would have been if I set it up with your Princeton Reverb judge.
  14. I can get behind a Fender Friday.
  15. Definitely a highlight. Ive been talking about that since!
  16. So your argument is that this is closer to a Strat than a Les Paul because it has a bolt on neck?
  17. We are going to have to agree to disagree. Its like we're from different planets. Vs and Explorers are plank guitars like the Tele and Strat there were built to compete with.
  18. Exactly. You dont touch a classic. Everbody knows that. You don't see much variation in Les Paul copies either. The Strat was experimental and futrlerustoc from the getgo. There's your platform to go wild with. Same can be said for flying Vs and Explorers.
  19. Huh? Just about everybody makes a Telecaster copy. In fact, it might be the most copied design in the history of music.
  20. #teamtele Simple and classic. There is no better design. More interesting sure, but not better.
  21. Agreed. I always say, if its good enough for James Jamerson, Steve Harris, and Phil Lynott, its good enough for me. 4 strings too.
  22. Probably the most bang for the buck of any instrument I've ever bought. American Standard P-Bass i bought new back in 2013 off that site that used to only offer 4 screaming deals a day. Hello Music?? Its my only bass. I played it in a couple cover bands back in San Diego. Countless jams / sit ins. The bass player in Vary Mary played it for every show and most practices because she prefers it to her own P-Bass; she also plays it in a new project we're trying to get off the ground. We use it in Dirty Years - me half the songs and the other guitar player for the other half. Now in The Koffs. All with that same strap too! It came with a big hard case, but I always carry it around in a lightweight gigbag. I've never once changed the strings. Probably about time.
  23. A friend has been asking me for a while to come down to Half Moon Bay and play bass with his band. Finally went last night. All middle aged surfer dudes, like the Point Break guys at 50. Singer is an Aussie. The practice spot is right near the beach where Mavericks breaks. Liked the guys, loved the songs. All high energy and fun. In about 2 hours I learned and was able to contribute to 6 of them, they have about 15 I think. We gelled musically very well. The drummer is very tight and easy to follow. They asked me to join, I tentively said yes. If I do it, im committing to driving a half hour down the coast after work every Wednesday evening. On the other hand, they are scheduled to play Psycho Fest in Vegas in August. We would be on the same bill as Mercyful Fate, Suicidal Tendancies, and a bunch of the Wutang Clan guys, so that would be pretty unreal. I'm sure on a smaller side stage or something, but still. https://www.google.com/amp/s/consequence.net/2022/03/psycho-vegas-2022-lineup/amp/ In other news, a Vary Mary show looks to be taking shape for August. I never thought that would happen again. Im stoked to play with those guys again.
