  1. Here are some phone recordings from practice with a band I joined recently that im super stoked about. Its right on the edge between Rock & Roll and Punk, and exactly my type thing. Im playing bass and having a blast. Our singer hasn't even heard this one yet. Guitar player wrote it and is singing. It was our 1st time with it and singer was AWOL. So far we have like 15 songs. All under 2 minutes, so we need a bunch.
  2. Nice win today. Wordle 336 2/6* 🟩🟨[emoji834]🟨[emoji834] 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
  3. Sorry to hear. BoomMF brought me a copy of his book with a personal inscription addressed to me inside recently. Legendary guy and I'm happy to see he has a loving family at his side. I need to read this book.
  4. Ill believe it when we are listed on the flyer, but playing Psycho Fest just got a little more real. They just asked for a band photo and how many rooms we need! It would by far be the biggest show I've ever been involved in, and I still have only learned half the songs and we've yet to play a gig together; though we do have one booked.
  5. Sokd me. Im gonna sell all my guitars and buy a single 54 Tele. Then retrofit it with Filtertrons! [emoji1787]
  6. Thats the right mindset. I dont buy a guitar with the idea ill sell it down the road, but its peace of mind when purchasing one. I realized it after I bought my SG Standard new in about 2006 for like $899 and within 5 years Gibson was asking over $1100 for them, making mine worth what I paid for it. I still have it. I've posted about my friend who owns about 85 high end guitars. He said he'd sell them to finance vacations when he retired. He's been retired about 8 years now and the only time he sells one is to finance buying another. Good for him. Hope im as fortunate one day.
  7. This is what makes guitars a worthwhile investment.
  8. Debbie Harry is 77 years old and performed at the top of her game last night. Timely to see the Paul McCartney post above, because I came home from Blondie on such a high that the only thing I could think to compare it to was when I saw Macca a few years ago; maybe DEVO a couple years after that. To see somebody that age still going at it with passion and drive, still reaching their peak, is invigorating and inspiring. They say a band is as good as its drummer and Clem Burke put on a clinic. Just wow. The 2 guitar players they currently have were absolute fire. There's not a lot of dates on this tour, but if they come near you, don't miss it. Im still buzzing and i see a lot of shows.
  9. Incredible, and surprisingly so since the show was in my least favorite venue in San Francisco because I've never heard a band sound good there. The Damned opened and sounded terrible, but Blondie and that Solano sounded great. The other guitarist was running a Marshall head through the other half of that Soldano cabinet stack. He was great in his own right, but this guy was a whole other level.
  10. Saw Blondie last night. Incredible show, but thats not the point. I spent most of the show trying to capture a picture that accurately showed what was basically the SurlyCaster as I imagine it. It was the perfect dark orange sparkle, but in the lights its any where from dark red to bright orange. Double bound. Differences were a humbucker in the neck neck, rosewood fingerboard, reversed headstock, and painted headstock and it appeared that the whole neck was painted to match as well. I wonder if Warmoth will paint a headstock to match?. The guy was an incredible player. Tommy Kessler. Phenomenal. I kept thinking he sounded like Randy Rhodes, I looked him up when I got home and sure enough, RR is listed as one of his main influences. Been in Blondie since 2010 and is involved in all sorts of stuff aroind New York. Total pro. For a few songs he played a Steve Vai style Ibanez and completely destroyed it. Played the sparkle Jaguar style with bound neck for a couple songs, but mot of the show was with the SurlyCaster. His Wiki page led to me to his own site where I see he does online lessons for $45/half hr. Damn. Reminds me of that one Tom T Hall line about guitar playing, ain't no money in it.
  11. I looked up the invoice for mine. I paid $4,100 all in for a new one that looks just like it in 2014, but if I recall they jacked up the prices significantly a year or 2 later. Mines Gloss Sunrise Teaburst and weighed 8lbs.
  12. Blondie tonight!
  13. Thats an interesting and timely video. I've spent a lot of time developing bass lines recently. I almost posted here yeaterday to ask peoples approaches. That video is very insightful and speaks directly to where I'm at currently. When to play something straight vs when to swing it, when to play a line the same vs when to develope it into something else. Its what makes playing bass so fun.
  14. Oh ya, I have no issue with Duran Duran being there, I'm just saying that you can't really call any band in the RnR HoF under appreciated. Ill leave my general thoughts on that place for the other thread.
  15. Its hard to call any band inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame "under appreciated" while so many much more deserving bands are left out. In fact, with all due respect to Duran Duran, its a joke.
  16. Health Camp is not a "stand", but it is an institution of you're ever in Waco and I just saw this news that it's for sale for the 1st time in decades. Hope it survives. https://wacotrib.com/news/local/history/health-camp-building-hits-market-for-2-3-million-owners-hope-to-find-buyer-to/article_3e085508-d0a7-11ec-9be9-97e05af0bfe9.html?utm_campaign=snd-autopilot&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook_Waco_Tribune-Herald
  17. A lot of people avoid Bigsby's because they are afraid of stringing them. Personally, i dont find it too bad. I put a bend in the string right where the eyelet fits onto the pin. A lot of people will use one of those big pencil erasers to to wedge between the eyelet and body to hold it in place while bringing it to tune. I seem to do fine without one. You might find some helpful tips on YouTube. Everybody's got their own take on stringing a Bigsby.
  18. That spring never falls out, though I change strings on a Bigsby 1 at a tine to keep the tension on it. Its hell to tune if you take them all off at once. The Bigsby on my Billy Bo needs a taller spring, ive considered putting a quarter or something under it. The arm sits closer to the body than it should. Frankly, they should have put a B5 on that instead of a B3. B5 B3
  19. Wery interesting. I have 4 Bigsby equipped guitars and never thought about it. I may order one and try it out.
  20. You're sarcasm meter may need adjusting, Scooter.
  21. I think of him almost every time I think of acoustic guitar. Nearly synonymous. Those are cool fret markers I must say. CSB A decade or so i worked with a woman who had a son, around 13, who fronted a band with other kids that age. Mostly covers, but they played big venues all over SoCal even opening for some pretty big names. They had a huge rehearsal space with a stage and everything. The whole thing was financed by Dave Mustaine. That was the part she really wasn't supposed to tell people. Not sure if his kid was part of it or if he just invested in young acts. I looked up the band a few years ago and they hadn't played since like 2013. Birds of Prey was the band name.
  22. This goes here.
  23. While I agree with this statement in general,, i prefer the additional screws because they are functional. I like being able to adjust the neck PU height without removing pickguard and I like there being smaller gaps between the pickguard and body for sweat and dirt to get through.
  24. I wouldn't hate on that, tbone, but there are a lot of other looks Id go to before that one. The beauty of a Telecaster is its simplicity. The more you add, the more you take away. Hard to beat this, though some would say there already too many screws in the pickguard.
