  1. Me, watching a prison documentary: Wow, they’re in their room 23 hours a day and only go out into the yard one hour. My teenager:
  2. Longhorn Great Brandon Belt evidently a topic of discussion.
  3. For reference for the 20 senators requirement, here are the results from 2020. Biggest upset, imo, is that somehow Ron Johnson doesn't appear on these lists. I would have put big money on him being one of the objectors: Congress certified the election of Joseph R. Biden Jr. early Thursday, ending attempts to overturn the results in two states. Senators Josh Hawley of Missouri, Ted Cruz of Texas, Tommy Tuberville of Alabama, Cindy Hyde-Smith of Mississippi, Roger Marshall of Kansas and John Kennedy of Louisiana voted to overturn the results in Arizona, while 93 senators voted against. Mr. Hawley, Mr. Cruz, Mr. Tuberville, Ms. Hyde-Smith, Mr. Marshall and Senators Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming and Rick Scott of Florida voted to overturn the results in Pennsylvania, while 92 voted against it. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/07/us/politics/republicans-against-certification.html
  4. Random chance seems to matter too. There were 57 EVs within 1.16% of going the other way. 4 years of passage of time, 4 years of new registrations, 4 years of people moving to different states, 4 years of deaths. I don't know how anyone could have any confidence in any result.
  5. Percent of 4th grade girls that can name one of the teams in the Super Bowl is off the charts this year.
  6. Is it too late to update my 2024 death list? https://www.nytimes.com/2024/01/27/world/europe/russia-putin-election-boris-nadezhdin.html?unlocked_article_code=1.Q00.G-gq.AwkYJzX-40Rj&smid=url-share
  7. this is a pat's fan waxing nostalgic for drew bledsoe. bledsoe was perfectly cromulent but . . . uh . . . things have changed.
  8. I'm now into my 9th year doing this and starting to see some separation. The hands-off Utah one is starting to pull away from the actively managed Maryland. Up by about 1.5%.
  9. 8 years of probably the biggest fumble of a valuable brand i can think of. the current trajectory would have them with jared from subway hosting next year.
  10. It’s a great idea. He’s not going to want to carry the load he used to. Love they’re flexible enough to accommodate him with what he can do.
  11. Wow. What a great way to do this. Hope he still has his fastball.
  12. This tired trope irritates me. New Magas turn 18 every day. Blue collar folks, rural folks, children of fundies. there's truth to it. if more of those 65+s die off, that cuts more into trump. if you add more 18s, that adds more to biden. However, what is left unseen is whether a 45 year old votes again like a 45 year old 4 years later when he's 49, or if he still votes like he's 45. I think the assumption is that because the candidates are the same, the vote history will be stickier than the age defaults. Someone voted for Trump as a 45 year old will do so as a 49, and same for Biden.
  13. no other player i know of really turned it on offensively so late like he did. good hitter until he is 30. great hitter thereafter. significant mvp votes every year.
  14. You’re lol’ing the suggestion that Biden might not be in front of multiple presidents that are consistently viewed in the top 10, so much so that someone opining so is laughable — either trolling and or extremely misinformed. No one that thinks about these things thinks this stuff. All the profs and historians that pitch in on Siena say #19 so far. Sure, sounds right. He’s done fine. https://scri.siena.edu/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/draft-final.pdf If I thought you actually thought he was borderline-Mount Rushmore, I’d tell you you’re in the mirror image of the cult of personality that’s on the other side. But no one actually thinks this; it’s just message board cheerleading. (It’s tough sledding to claim best-President-in-four-generations leading off with the embarrassing hyperbole that “passing an infrastructure bill” will “ensure US is the premier world power throughout this century”).
  15. i complain to my wife about the short bench all the time. who is going to step in? i say "someone graduates 1st and 2nd from every college in the u.s. every year. WHERE ARE THESE PEOPLE?" i honestly think that it is partially that we are victims of our own success. because we are in this hyper rich period for the top 1%, if you're the cream of the crop, it is hard to say no to the private life. the latter.
  16. Presidents since FDR. Truman - finished off the Axis. Eisenhower - JFK - Moonshot LBJ - Civil Rights bonanza Nixon - Ford Carter Reagan - Showed commies we had infinite budget Bush - End cold war without chaos Clinton - Prosperity computer boom GWB Obama - Obamacare, DACA Trump. My guess is if Biden is done, he will be remembered about like Ford. Just a dude that was there for a few years.
  17. but increase incidents of mortality getting squashed by the wehrmacht
