  1. Interlaken in the summer is gorgeous. Geneva and the lake is nice for a couple days. Zurich is boring and obnoxious year round.
  2. I was in Zurich years ago and spilled a beer on the firm MacBook. The partner I mostly worked for laughed on the phone and said to get a new one there on them. Derp.
  3. I'm at 48 countries, most solo, and typing from Australia at the moment. Half or so were Europe, the rest South America and Asia. I could easily retire in BA eventually. The top of my bucket list is parts of Africa, Beirut, Cairo, and India. The wildest yet most rewarding place so far was Port-au-Prince after its earthquake in January 2010. I drove from the DR where I lived in a Uhaul type truck with medical supplies three days after the quake. It was eerily calm yet pure chaos at the same time. I also went six months before the quake to volunteer for a week and really enjoyed PAP. Watch Conan O'Brien's remotes from Haiti in 2018 and you'll see it was a really vibrant and fascinating place with wonderful people that has since tragically descended into the abyss.
  4. I'm in Australia and the game isn't on my hotel tv as far as I can find. Anyone know a good website for viewing it?
  5. It would easily be above a billion if not multiple billions. There are a handful of pieces of art known universally like David and Mona Lisa. If it actually became available for purchase there would be no shortage of billionaires or governments lining up to purchase it no matter the price.

  7. I guess we just have different views on the acceptable amount of government involvement in our lives.
  8. At the very least require a massive retainer upfront. Makes me smile.
  9. I got so ragey just now reading that. I wish prominent people with big social media followings would post stories like this with the names and photos of the petty officials involved so that at least there's some public shaming that might deter others.
  10. My DeWalt compound miter saw has held tough year after year. Same for my Bosch battery powered drill set. I've never had a Milwaukee power tool but have always heard good things from trades folks I've worked with. I recommend battery powered tools if he's going to do a lot of projects. Definitely get an extra battery or two.
  11. The problem is there's never any parking in Lanikai. Idiots from Honolulu come in mid-day on a weekend and circle for hours wondering why there are no spots. You got to get here no later than 8 a.m. on a weekend for a spot.
  12. WTF! Is he transitioning NTTIAWWT!
  13. Makapu Lighthouse is a nice paved walk/hike with great views. The North Shore is fun for a day trip to see the famous suef beaches. I'd recommend going through Kaneohe on the way up or back from the NS. It takes twice as long as the H2, but it's one of the most scenic drives in the world. The NS town Haleiwa has lots of restaurants and touristy shops. It's a nice place to walk around and have a meal. The Turtle Bay hotel on the NS has a nice public beach for the kids and the outdoor hotel bar has a killer view. If you can get one of the small number of reserved spots, Hanauma Bay has great snorkeling and a really cool beach. I'm biased because I live in Kailua, but imo the beaches there, including Lanikai, are the nicest on the island. A lot less crowded than Waikiki and you don't have to worry about someone stealing your stuff if you go into the water. Another often overlooked beach that's really beautiful is Malakahaena on the way to the NS. Great body boarding. There are amazing hikes all over the island if you're into that. I'm happy to give recs depending on difficulty level.
  14. "Like a good butcher, his familiarity with the pig means he knows where to apply the knife." I don't know how to quote on Tapa. That's purty writin.

    Gym Pet Peeves

I live in a small town with one YMCA. There's basically one of each weight machine. Olds love to sit on one machine for 10 minutes spending minutes between sets talking to other olds. I often can't complete my routine in the time I've allotted because some old took forever to use one machine. The inverse of the olds taking forever at a machine are the young guys who finish a set and then check themselves out in the mirror for minutes in between sets likewise taking forever to finish up on a machine. There's one spray bottle with an auto paper towel dispenser to use to clean a machine after using. There's always some yahoo that takes the one spray bottle to the machine to spend a minute cleaning it instead of just spraying the paper towel at the cleaning station and taking the towel to the machine. I'd go somewhere else but the only options are a UFC bro gym that requires a contract and an Anytime Fitness with same contract BS.
  16. Is the bet that new gas stoves will be illegal in America in 5 years? I'll take that bet too.
  17. I lived in that shitty neighborhood behind Taco House as a kid and would bike to Taco House two or three times a week. Amazing food. I was in town recently visiting the folks and I could swear they're finally accepting cards after being cash only for ever.
  18. People who pull their shopping carts around the store from the front. I don't know why, it just really irks me.
  19. Helping a cousin probate his mom's, my aunt's, will. Cousin is the sole beneficiary. She passed with few assets. She had some stocks and mutual funds and my cousin says her financial institution gave him control over those without needing anything from the court. Would those assets still need to be included in the inventory?
  20. Assuming it's targeting, is the ball at the 1?
