  1. Three words you never want to hear in a recruiting update: “Situation is fluid”
  2. I don’t like this matchup either, for reasons discussed in the game thread. Hoping that the 8 OT’s last week have taken some of the starch out of UGA, that they are overconfident about the rematch, and that our offensive line is prideful enough to want to reclaim some of their dignity that they lost in Austin the first go round. If we can get 4 quarters of good Quinn, we can beat anyone, but he’ll need protection. Unfortunately, in rematches in the SECCG, the winner of the regular season game has a 5-2 record in the rematch. UGA 20 UT 14 UGA just has an extra gear that they can put on for games they care about where the other team isn’t Alabama. UT rushes 27 times for 89 yards. Hope I’m wrong, I had a bad feeling about last week and couldn’t have been further off.
  3. Yeah, I don’t think it’s part of the Manning Plan for Arch to see him be a wildcat QB running into the line 24 times in a game. But definitely need to work him in more and give him some throw options as well so it’s not obvious when he comes in what’s going to happen. I also have to think our OL will hold up better in pass pro than they did last time. It really can’t get much worse, and if it improves, at least we won’t be giving them all the short fields from sack fumbles.
  4. A little more substantive than that. What concerns me is that they are pointing out structural factors that make UGA a bad matchup for us and will be present no matter how we adjust tactics, as opposed to execution, bad bounces/luck, poor game plan, that can be corrected or improved upon in a rematch. We’ll see.
  5. The OTF guys have me worried about the matchup. Gerry says the UGA LB’s are athletic enough to shut down all the perimeter stuff that Sark likes to run early and their interior DL can wreck our outside zone. Plays are there to be had down the field with our WR’s vs their DB’s but those take time to develop and Quinn needs to see them and not be focused on the pass rush. Seems like pass protection for Quinn is the most important matchup in this game and we have to improve bigly over the performance in Austin.
  6. I can’t think of a stronger argument against conference championship games than the thought that if ATM had beat Auburn we’d be playing them again in Atlanta on Saturday.
  7. All the more incentive to win on Saturday and get a bye.
  8. Complaining about our strength of schedule by a program that got South Carolina as its permanent opponent and has only played UGA once in 13 years (when we’re going to play them twice in our first season) is really something else.
  9. Makes sense. Another downstream effect of NIL that people weren’t expecting. Probably a good thing.
  10. Unless tOSU panics and fires Ryan Day, this is the least interesting coaching carousel cycle I can remember. UNC, WVU, Purdue , and UCF are the biggest openings? Maybe Pittman retires at Arkansas, but still a far cry from some of the major upheavals of the last few years.
  11. I know that he’s doing a bit to rev up the home fans, but I loved that McAfee premised his ATM pick on their blue-collar, hard hat mentality against our effete, rich-kid finesse personality, and then we won the game 17-7 by completely throttling their offense and running the ball down their throats. It’s so frustrating because you see how great Quinn can be, making NFL throws into tight windows, and yet every game he’s good for 3-4 throws that just seem lackadaisical and put the ball totally up for grabs. The guy has a terrific W-L record, particularly on the road, and so he is definitely our starter the rest of the way, but he’s got to cut down on these spells that seem to come over him. When Michigan Quinn, 1st half ATM Quinn is playing, we’re the best team in the country.
  12. Definitely want to win the SEC this week, not the least of reasons because I’m going to the game and don’t want a bunch of UGA fans barking in my face. Also want to repeat our trick from 1995-1996 of winning a conference on our way out and our way in. More long term, however, if we’re going to an NFL-style playoff system in CFB, then we should probably get away from these conference championship games altogether and just determine the regular season conference champion by records+tiebreakers like we used to do it prior to 1992. Nobody is upset that we don’t have an NFC East Championship Game in January every year.
  13. It’s giving me 1999 NC State vibes
