  1. Tiresome beats deadly. And calling for flood warnings systems isn’t political. The reason we don’t have them is, but recognizing the need for them is not.
  2. A properly functioning press would have asked about the vacancies at the NWS, tied it to DOGE, and hung it around her neck. Now, even NPR has fallen.
  3. I like this guy.
  4. I'm from Minnesota. I've seen mosquitoes pick up a Buick. The bigger the mosquito, the easier to kill it.
  5. Radio is a proven technology.
  6. He has. And he mentioned federal assistance to the affected area.
  7. The Hunt location was a word to the wise. Responsible leadership and effective communication might have saved lives, but we will never know.
  8. The notion that there was nothing anyone could have done is bullshit. And, not just because flash flood warnings were issued an hour or more before floods took children, and not just because society’s response to Wimberley’s flooding was to install flood warning devices along the Blanco, (which the army corp of engineers worked on,) while ignoring other watersheds, but mainly because losing so many children and adults in a flood is not something you wave away. Sirens anywhere people sleep in the floodplain, activated by any LE entity, all of whom are tasked with flood watch, or the failure of a dam, is, at the very least, something that could have been done.
  9. Flash flood warnings issued for NW Travis County until 5AM.
  10. Delete. But, fuck. We will see what other folks make of the claim that the southern ocean has changed the way it circulates, it’s transfer up and down the water column. The link is scary, if true.
  11. Never made that decision. Assholes are those, yourself included, who feel entitled to force their religious beliefs on others.
  12. The rights of women vary state to state. The rights of men don’t. If that is fine with you, then you are both a shitty father and a shitty citizen.
  13. I am the father of two daughters. Our daughter’s rights vary from state to state. Ours don’t. If that doesn’t piss you off, well, I’m glad I don’t know you. Saves me the effort of making your life miserable until you hide.
  14. I always think of the flood debris in the trees that inspired Driftwood’s name. Holy shit that involved a lot of water. That’s incredibly good news!
  15. I am celebrating the values I believe made the USA great. The greatest of these is that diversity is strength.
  16. My heart breaks. Praying she is found safe.
  17. My MIL drank too much one night, and told me she broke my FIL’s dick. So, that video made me squeamish.
  18. Fucking spellcheck. I even corrected the spellcheck, but didn’t glance at my post after I hit submit.
  19. Creek flooding can also be catastrophic. I rest easier on top of a hill.
  20. Onion Creek might flood, based on rainfall near Blanco.
  21. The major roads were still open this morning. At least, my daughter went through the area earlier today on her way to Marfa; here is her text at the time: 😭 And, we will never know if warning sirens could have saved lives, just like when the Blanco flooded Wimberley. We will be able to gauge the effectiveness of warning sirens the next time Wimberley floods. And, Texas’ rivers in the Hill Country will flood.
  22. Weird post considering the horrific loss of life due to the Guadelupe’s historic flooding overnight.
