  1. Putin sees them before turnip does.
  2. Having a discussion in the proper thread doesn’t derail another thread, and so I expect this particular conversation will not have legs. This is the issue where Republicans ought to join with Democrats. If not, then why ever seek common ground, because there isn’t any.
  3. Should have burned everything.
  4. Racism is an easy topic of conversation. Unless you’re a racist. And this school board is racist. https://www.kare11.com/article/news/local/forest-lake-school-board-dress-code-policy-student-attire-hate-symbols/89-0a4881de-cd69-454d-a562-e85c7c70892c
  5. Hermit by nature. Charming crowds a developed skill. You know what else stands in opposition to individual freedom? The draft. Conscripting citizens to fight a war. Given that we lost more citizens in a year to COVID than any year of War, ever, I wonder why folks talk about lockdown as contrary to freedom. Doesn’t follow. To me.
  6. Maybe, in every other possible universe, God did the sky poppa thing, but I doubt it.
  7. Give it up to the Irish. https://www.lemonde.fr/en/international/article/2025/05/27/ireland-moves-to-become-first-eu-country-to-ban-trade-with-israeli-occupied-territories_6741747_4.html
  8. And to San Antonio, and then to Piedras Negras.
  9. Pope Leo has a video presentation and a public mass planned for June 14. In Chicago, at Rate Field. The pope won’t be there in person. He’s gonna Skype it. https://chicago.suntimes.com/pope-leo-xiv/2025/05/28/pope-leo-xiv-video-message-mass-rate-field “.Once in a lifetime event” scheduled more or less concurrently with the Mushroom Parade? It is getting easier to like the new pope.
  10. The video of the collapse is terrifying.
  11. Blatten won’t be the last alpine village that meets this fate. https://www.reuters.com/business/environment/glacier-crumbles-above-evacuated-swiss-village-prompting-huge-rock-slide-2025-05-28/ Blatten is first mentioned in the written record in 1433.
  12. https://www.acog.org/news/news-releases/2025/05/acog-statement-on-hhs-recommendations-regarding-the-covid-vaccine-during-pregnancy Are you surprised? I’m not surprised.
  13. Figured this thread had been bumped because Leon is xitting all over the big beautiful bill and its deficit exploding tax giveaways to billionaires, but was pleasantly surprised by Chop’s post. Damn straight, government can be efficient. Medicare and medicaid overhead costs should have been a clue.
  14. Purple is associated with honor and bravery. TIL, the Purple Heart’s history evolved from the Badge of Distinction and Merit, which was conceived by George Washington. That badge gave way, over time, to congressionally enacted awards, the Medal of Honor, the Distinguished Service Medal and Distinguished Service Cross. It was US Army Chief of Staff Douglas MacArthur who repurposed and renamed Washington’s badge to the Purple Heart in 1932. https://www.nationalww2museum.org/war/articles/history-of-the-purple-heart
  15. Congress has passed laws later ruled to be unconstitutional. Until such a ruling, those laws, at a minimum, provide cover, and perhaps immunity, for some individual official acts.
