  1. Thought I’d c/p the whole text of the above tweet: BREAKING: Idaho’s largest newspaper humiliates Trump’s “Patriot Front” white supremacists in a devastating op-ed after they file a lawsuit complaining that they’ve lost their jobs and been shunned by their families after their identities exposed to the public. In the brutal op-ed, the editors of the Idaho Statesman didn’t mince words and showed zero sympathy for the pro-Trump’s neo-nazis, declaring that, “What they’re really upset about is suffering the consequences of their abhorrent views — views that they feel so strongly about, they don’t want anyone to know about. The plaintiffs say they were fired from their jobs, have been threatened at their homes and have had their tires slashed, among other things. The editorial continues, “Actions have consequences. It’s a warped view of freedom of expression when Patriot Front members attempt to completely conceal their ownership of said expression. Hiding behind anonymity has become an all-too-common feature of white nationalist and extremist trolls who lurk in the shadows of social media, hiding behind bogus accounts and fake avatars, spewing hate, sowing division, and threatening and intimidating others. The brutal takedown continues, “It’s that anonymity that allows their putrescent views to grow and spread like a flesh-eating bacteria — except in this case, it’s more like a brain-eating disease. The fact the Patriot Front members’ main complaint is that they’ve suffered for being associated with these views is telling. The fact that employers — even their own relatives, in the case of Brown — want nothing to do with them tells you all you need to know. The editorial ends with a bang, “If Patriot Front members believe that they are right and just, why not attach their names to their beliefs and putrid goals? Otherwise, they’re just behaving in a cowardly fashion, hiding behind ridiculous masks, fake social media accounts and in the darkness of the back of a U-Haul van." Well said!
  2. Despite being healthy and iconic, a charitable foundation chopped down the Founder’s Tree, in Kerrville, TX. The Cailloux Foundation has not commented, but a worker explained that it was “too big.” Cailloux is trying to sell the property and word is there is interest from a hotel company. Why they didn’t seek funds to move the tree isn’t explained. https://kerrcountylead.com/in-a-shock-kerrvilles-centuries-old-founders-tree-is-cut-down/
  3. Now I am sad. Best wishes, Lina, and warmest regards.
  4. I hate to consider ever sharing adjoining spots at an RV park with Justice Thomas. A man ought respect his mobile home park companions.
  5. The alt-right isn’t subtle. Haven’t been for quite some time. Exactly what it is they find actionable? Well, that’s what I haven’t determined. Other than “(they) will not replace us.”
  6. Winter down south all kinds of fucked. Climate books will need to be rewritten. https://www.washingtonpost.com/weather/2023/08/02/southamerica-record-winter-heat-argentina-chile/?utm_source=reddit.com
  7. One of the best weddings I’ve attended was a couple of days after the decision to allow gay marriage. Halcyon days. Not only were we celebrating the impromptu union between two of our friends, we were celebrating a new and improved country. A brighter, more colorful, more loving, future. A year and a half later, that worldview was turned on its head.
  8. There isn’t a more unAmerican label than theocratic fascist. Patriots are rioting beyond the veil. We must step up our game, folks.
  9. To the discussion of tfg supporters, I’d add that one grouping includes folks who actually want authoritarian rule. This group includes at least one billionaire, who is spending his wealth to facilitate that aim.
  10. Figure this out and take my money. Maybe we can buy from Israel, or Austria. Somebody has to be represented in the House by a Congresscritter with a Charlie Wilson sensibility, and who might help make the sale happen.
  11. One male coach and one female coach, for all sports, in my small town. Male coach would start class announcing he had a hangover, and if anyone made a sound, he’d bust their ass (with the offender holding onto the desk of the prettiest girl in class.)
  12. No step forward, two steps back. Coral along the southern tip of Florida are dying in waters hot as the high 90s. What are most vulnerable are the corals ‘planted’ in restoration efforts. Where the destruction is total. Fuck. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/coral-reef-mortality-florida-ocean-temperatures/
  13. I pay for off site storage because I value sentiment. What objects qualify for sentiment is almost exclusively family connected. My father’s model A Ford, which I have no interest in driving, his desk. Turn of the 20th century tools. Carved wooden bears from Switzerland. As we have been the sort of last resort for my BIL, my mother and MIL, we have been sorting mostly my wife’s family heirlooms, to see what we will pay to keep. I’m less sentimental about furniture, but that’s what does it for my wife. OTOH, I think I want to sell a Krieghoff model 32 over under. We never took it hunting. I don’t have a connection with it.
  14. Either we enforce gun laws, or we don’t. I seem to remember plenty of wing nuts saying we don’t need more gun laws, we need to enforce the ones we have. Easy enough to agree on the second part of that statement.
  15. I kinda thought Mary had become God’s communication director. /s
