  1. I welcome any and all rain at this.
  2. Doesn’t have quite the same gravitas as Moscow Mitch
  3. The Oak Hill project could be as wide as 12 lanes wide? Holy shit that is huge.
  4. Radio said 103 high at Camp Mabry today. That is a wee bit on the toasty side.
  5. Just back from a 9 day family vacation. I read about the cooler temps last week in Austin while away but the lawn looks roasted. Granted I don’t have an irrigation system but damn the yard is dry as fuck. Huge cracks in the clay soil. Lots of shriveled browning In the lawn. Started hand watering a bit this evening. Water just instantly disappears on the ground. Going to take a shit load of water to make a dent.
  6. ERCOT has no meaningful exports to other power grids. The multiple DC ties exist but their capacity is very small. This is what allows ERCOT to avoid FERC regulation. As such, MW generated basically equals the load consumption in ERCOT. Wind generators do not generate excess energy if the load can not consume it. ERCOT uses SCED to send price signals to all generators. Wind is going to be the last to backdown generation based on economics because their fuel cost is zero and their marginal cost of production is negative with the subsidies. So thermal generation is going to back down production before wind. The two exceptions to this will be 1) transmission constraint leading to significant negative pricing is wind generation heavy parts of the grid or 2) unsafe wind conditions that force with wind turbine operators to backdown the wind turn one to keep it safe. Capacity utilization factors for wind farms vary wildly based on their location. Think 20% to 40% annually. Some of the wind farms on the coast line may exceed those numbers to the high side.
  7. Basically it’s a permanent state of Hot War per your original post.
  8. Exactly this is not a both sides discussion. The schools action was way out of proportion with the violation. And they doubled down on stupid in rejecting the charity payoff. Those residents can decide if they should have new leadership of that school district.
  9. What is your proposal to make things change? You ask when people will wake up. It appears they are awake and actively choose to support continued deficit spending. How that plays out in 5, 20, or 50 years is open to debate...but the voting population clearly doesn’t care about those risks today. No political party supports deficit reduction...let alone debt reduction. The Tea Party appears impotent at this point. So Pepper, what do you propose to “wake people up”?
  10. I don’t think Boris will just accept the EU deal. I also don’t think he is going to delay Brexit. I anticipate him defying convention in some unexpected way that gets everyone’s panties in a wad. This brinksmanship behavior may lead the EU to offer an improved deal. It may also just lead to a crash out.
  11. The Democrats got their domestic spending...at least I am assuming they did...not having seen any actual legislation yet. What else specifically did you want the Democrats to accomplish?
  12. How are you imagining Trump not making it to Election Day ?
  13. I foresee many embarrassing events in UK near future. Boris said no UK intervention in Iran if the US does something. I can appreciate that sentiment from Boris. Of course that was before the Brits started losing tankers.
  14. Clickbait thread title. Lawyer defends his client for free and the frivolous complaint is withdrawn. The other recipients of complaints could also receive similar free services. The article is effectively a public shout out for the 14 potential clients to contact the author to receive free legal services. 1 potentially Canadian citizen attempting to abuse their legal system.
  15. They got it done and got the GOP on record.
  16. That is a very passive strategy. Maybe it works. But it isn’t a lasting strategy. There is no governing mandate from such a strategy. Democrats will find themselves completely lost if they eek out a 2020 victory with no clear direction of “not Trump”. Is there any research that shows strong disapproval ratings translate into higher voter turnout ?
  17. I don't think this is Fake News. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/aided-by-a-strong-economy-trump-approval-rises-but-a-majority-also-see-him-as-unpresidential/2019/07/04/c9c42c54-9d9f-11e9-b27f-ed2942f73d70_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.5c789188ae5e Its a single poll...its not the 538 average. I don't expect his approval numbers to start running higher....but they are definitely not falling either...regardless of how unpresidential he is.
  18. He has been upside down since his inauguration. No disputing that. https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/trump-approval-ratings/ Should we then think that he can get reelected with these same approval #s? I hope he can't. But if he won 2016 with low approval numbers...his reelection seems very much possible.
  19. Pelosi needs to be working on getting a deal done the budget and debt ceiling. She needs a deal the more progressive side of the party can be happy with. Bloomberg Debt Ceiling
  20. It’s great that your friends have abandoned Trump. But polls suggest the opposite. In fact some polls are showing Trump with his highest approval ratings of his presidency. Some are attributing that to the continued positive economic performance inspire of the Trump Trade Wars.
  21. ^^ What makes you think Pelosi feels like she fucked up with AOC? I agree that both of them ran run in essentially separate lanes...for the most part. But AOC isn’t going away or going to stop unless she fails to get re-elected in 2020.
  22. It appears Pelosi has 2 tests coming up. Defense Authorization Bill. House version has language preventing Presidential unilateral war with Iran. Senate lacks that language. Will Pelosi prioritize that? Can she force the issue ? US Debt ceiling. Everyone knows it’s going to get raised. Some members of GOP allegedly do not want to vote on it as a stand alone item. In that case, Pelosi would be expected for Dems to extract concessions from GOP. Will that happen? Or will cocaine Mitch dictate the terms ?
  23. Staple gun in the balls sounds awful.
  24. That is a broad area, but I wish you good luck. My brother has been renting a tiny old house in the Heights for years while looking to buy inside the loop. Budget of $300k to $325k. He ended up buying a house in Spring Branch, north side of I10 and Gessner, outside of the loop. Schools are ridiculously bad.
