  1. I’m confused. I just checked Ticketmaster and A&M tickets are $500+. Vanderbilt $190+.
  2. There are probably five three letter federal agencies that can track and identify you from turned off electronics.
  3. The commutation of Santos’ sentence finally did it for me. I lost it. But in the heat of that moment I decided what I specifically am going to do to resist against this bs. I’m doing two specific things. First I’m taking on one friend at a time to try and sit down with them and debate it all out in the hopes of changing one person’s mind. If every one of us flipped just one person we know, we’d flip future elections. And I’m not trying to flip them to Democrats. After all I’m not a Democrat. Instead I’m trying to change their thinking around the type of qualities and behaviors they should expect from elected officials. And I’m trying to help them understand what position they think they are taking in politics vs what they are actually taking. One example is the person who says they believe in “conservative values” . This government is not following conservative values right now To do this, I’m going to have to construct an argument that addresses most or all of the reasons why people have chosen to date to support this crap. It’s a combination of fighting disinformation and changing their perspective and giving them facts. And I will have to give them clarity on what they should do while not abandoning their core beliefs, even if they are misguided. Does this seem like an impossible task? Yes. That’s why I I have part 2 of my plan, which I already started last night. I had an uncomfortable conversation with the person in our group who is the most liked. He is fully aware of the Trump bs and illegal/immoral behavior of this administration and Republican party. But he says he doesn’t know what he can do about it. He’s only one guy. He always steers away from politics among a mixed group of us. I convinced him to think the same way as me. Help me flip one guy in our group. Rather than steer away, privately work on one guy at a time, respectfully. Now our friends will be hearing it from two of us, the guy they like the most and me, who they regard as generally the most knowledgeable in the group. If all of us flipped just one relative or friend, we could get control of this mess.
  4. This put me over the edge. I’ll post my response in the resistance thread.
  5. What are you able to watch on YouTube? We cut Uverse and haven’t missed it. We are using YouTube tv right now and are starting to think we don’t need that either.
  6. Take a hard look at this pic. It’s probably going to lead to a Nobel prize. I violated the laws of physics. I put wax paper over a plate of pasta before heating it up. As I moved to put the plate in the microwave, the wax paper somehow wedged into a millimeter wide gap between the microwave cover and the rest of the microwave. Weird and unusual, but I’ll just pull the wax paper out. Nope. The wax paper somehow wedged into that tiny gap so forcefully that it was impossible to pull out. And I do mean impossible. Pliers. Tweezers. Knives. Screwdrivers. Nothing worked. Think about that for a second. A millimeter thick piece of wax paper somehow flies thru the air in such a way as to perfectly wedge into a one mm gap so forcefully that it can’t be removed. I’ve made my reservations to Norway.
  7. I think in theory your thoughts are sound. The problem is that the cost of private schools will far outweigh the vouchers. So how will those with limited means gain access? They won’t, except for a few “token” acceptances that come with more financial aid. The majority of those with limited means will just have bad choice. And by limited, I mean 70%+ of the population living within the school district boundaries.
  8. Reagan, Pearce, Blanton, Andrews, and Harris were all schools I attended. They were a bit rough while was there, but not bad. I go back to the Reagan area all of the time for various reasons. Having grown up in East Austin I’ve always felt pretty comfortable while in the Reagan area. Last week I had to be over there for the first time in about 5 months and for the first time ever, even I was nervous about driving through there or getting out of my car. It seems the area, which has always been in severe decline, is reaching some new lows. I have no idea how kids can be safe and learn in that environment. Combined with the voucher system, you’ve got to believe that the decline in schools is going to accelerate at warp speeds and create a permanent long term disadvantage for kids from families with limited means. It breaks my heart.

Please don’t tell me we have to go back 70 years and explain all this again.
  10. I’m interested to see Terry get some snaps. I think he’s got possibly better talent than any other back on the roster, once you take into account Baxter’s injury. Those saying he won’t see playing time might be right, but I have a feeling after a few practices they are going to realize RB is a very legitimate option for him for now.
  11. Came on here to see if others have the same issue. We can’t hear the game/crowd. The announcers dominate the sound.
  12. Why are we not talking about Terry moving to RB. That’s a big deal.
  13. Well first of all, I never once said I hate nor did I say anything that would imply I hate her, so nice reading skills. I said over-rated. The definition of that term means people over-rate her talent. That does not mean she has no talent. This concludes the English lesson for today.
  14. This thread is starting to make me think 80% of professionals suck, which means 80% of Surly are screwing people.
  15. Oh damn, I can’t believe I forgot this profession. Winner. By a mile. I’ve told the story many times of meeting this particular charlatan and talking with him one on one for quite some time. He’s a giant pussy.
  16. I remember your specific post because it immediately made me feel much better about them getting him. There was one other poster who also called it, maybe CTJ or one of the other recruiting board guys.

    Getting old sucks

Could be. But my closest friends I’ve known for 50 years. As you can imagine when you’ve been friends that long, there are few topics that don’t get discussed. And I hear them often talking about certain things they will be doing 20 years from now. But, I guess it could be just optimism.

    Getting old sucks

My wife and I were talking yesterday. We’ve both had some health issues and as a result are appropriately aware of the fact that we are starting to get up there in age and who knows how long we’ve got left on this earth. Could be a long time, or could be less than that. However, I’m fascinated by my similarly aged friends. It seems like none of them have any thought whatsoever that they won’t make it another 25+ years. They certainly may. Many of them are in very good physical shape. But it’s odd to me that they automatically assume it and just don’t consider any other scenario.
  19. My biased view of the RB room: Wisner - great after contact, great at cutbacks, pretty slow, reliable, good attitude. Solid contributor but not Ricky Williams, obviously. Baxter - showed a few tiny flashes as a freshman but basically a non factor until there’s evidence he can not only get on the field, but also produce. I’m skeptical. Gibson - the fumbling is slightly less of an issue than it was and there were a few tiny flashes at times, but also a lot of bury his head into the line and gain 1. I think he’s got something but he needs a fresh start I guess. Simon - flashed several times but obviously still learning protections, etc. I’d like to see him get more carries. Clark - just meh. Average at everything. Ricky Stewart - whispers of an issue there? Thin RB room, yet again.
  20. I forgot about realtors. That’s a good one. As I’ve stated in the real estate thread, I went out and got my own license after dealing with a few absolute realtor idiots. I handle my own transactions, and do family and friends if they need it. What I saw would enrage a typical consumer. The actual concept of a realtor is not terrible. Lawyers can do the paperwork, but are not equipped to deal with the analysis of properties and negotiations necessary to buy or sell a property. The problem is that 90% of realtors do a terrible job on both of those areas as well. And the commission structures are stupid. Expensive homes have way too high of commissions.
  21. A food truck park!
  22. Welcome to surly Preston. Eff Frisco (Plano dad here).
  23. Finebaum is the poster child example of a worthless human being.
  24. This is the truth. They’ve bought a lot of the roofing companies and those have become huge scams. Also plumbing,
  25. Unnecessary dental work. It’s huge. Sorry that you’ve got mouth full of fake cavities.
