  1. The line movement in this game has also been interesting. Started at 3.5 and shot up immediately to 7.5. That much movement so fast doesn’t happen a lot. On one hand that implies the smart money believes Texas wins, and potentially wins big. But there’s also the counter argument that dumb money got too enamored with week 1 results.
  2. It’s always difficult projecting the performance of a power running offense like Michigan’s. Do they look pedestrian against lesser opponents because they aren’t as good, or is that just what comes with an offense that isn’t as dynamic as a school like Texas. For as long as I can remember in college football, even last year, it’s been impossible to assume that the team with the more pedestrian looking offense will lose to the high flying one. The more dynamic offense can break down more easily because of its complexity. It’s also more dependent on key players. The pedestrian offense just lines up and beats the other guys play after play like a bully.
  3. For social security, I subtract it from my annual spending requirement, and the leftover amount is what has to be produced from investment funds. That is a better way to think about the impact of social security. And when you look at what percent of spending is covered by SS, if it’s a high percentage, it allows you to be more aggressive in allocation between stocks and bonds, with less downside risk of not being able to meet spending requirements.
  4. @Gil Bang is the market in Soruhwrn California slowing? I saw a video saying it has finally. That is what I’ve been waiting to hear. If so, buckle up on stock holdings.
  5. To be more accurate in my comment, when I say losing money I mean making less money on higher revenue. Espn revenues are up 3% in the quarter year over year, but operating income has dropped 9% YOY. That has nothing to do with the dispute. They are losing cable subs in general. It’s a long term trend that will continue until they find the right flip point to exit the linear tv market and go completely direct with streaming. To minimize the pain of that decline, they have to raise rates as much as they can to offset subscriber loss. That’s what is exacerbating the dispute. May get solved quickly, or it may not. https://www.cnbc.com/2024/05/07/disney-dis-earnings-q2-2024.html
  6. Maybe. NBC was off AT&T for several months, and while espn is definitely way more important to AT&T/direct Tv, they have stated their business model now requires them to push back harder on content providers. And at the same time espn is losing money. So put those two together and it could end up being a protracted fight. Or not.
  7. McConaughey is great and all, but we need some more celebrity blood around. I also realized after the press conference that I’m underestimating Michigan. Because they lost so much talent and their coach, I thought they would struggle. But 40-3 and a reminder that Larry Coker and Barry Switzer won a title with Jimmie’s players has me realizing Michigan is gong to be ready. Good news is that it’s clear Sark understands that.

Why am I able to watch this??
  9. Westlake wonks were stunned at the recruiting ranking of Shanahan coming out of high school. Not only is the talent questionable, there is nothing between the ears, apparently. Should fit right in.
  10. This was really interesting. Thanks for posting this. It also tells me I need to look for a different brand for me. I never pulled the trigger on their cherry alligator back when it was affordable. Now I’m trying to decide between western diamondback and alligator/crocs and the brand.
  11. If you do that what happens to the audio? I don’t have a 7+ speaker setup. I only have two front, center, and subwoofer.
  12. Should give these complex stats some thought in the future. When Ryan Niblett has rushing yards, and negative passing yards, was he a wide receiver, or a wide receiver lining up as the running back, because of the injuries, or both? I could argue his running yards shouldn’t count but passing should, or vice versa depending upon the position he was in.
  13. Whoever was on this morning with Elf has the broadcasting skills of an autistic middle schooler using a cassette recorder in the bathroom. Jesus the bench on the ticket is weak these days.
  14. Texas 27 Michigan 21 Michigan receiving yardage 313
  15. Last year I was able to get into Prime and get the Uverse app, which gave me their content. I don’t know if that is still supported or not anymore. The other thing I’m able to do is go directly to the channel app, like espn or whatever, and log in there and it’s asks for the Uverse login. I think between the two above I can stream everything but it’s definitely more of a hassle than just having Direct TV streaming. But we don’t stream remotely very often, and at one time the DTV streaming was glitchy. Dont know if they’ve fixed that now.
  16. He was great Saturday. But to be fair, some past criticism of him was fair. While he has a great arm, great QB play is much more than just a strong arm. McCoy looked better than Ewers early in his career, with a weaker arm. Ewers has a chance this year to become the best QB to ever step on Texas’ campus, at least until Manning next year.
  17. I’m just betting on a change given what happened with the Mavs and stars this year going to Victory+. Yes, and that would have been an option but for the Food Network, TNT and TBS missing (sports). This is an interesting idea. I assume it would work for spurs too? I don’t pay $350, I pay $240 (two tvs), up from $180 just a year ago. AT&T is just pushing price as much as they can until everyone is pushed off the service. With that $240, I also get free Max and a bunch of movie channels (legacy pricing plan). I can’t duplicate what I have, even if I wanted to, and I’m not ready to give up Astros and spurs. And I like the AT&T fiber speeds. If I did give it up, internet would be $90. YTTV would be $72 plus addons $10, ballys would be $20, max would be $15, for a total of $207, and I wouldn’t have movie channels, Astros, Spurs, one remote, one input/channel lineup. So, it cost me $40 to have Uverse with the above advantages. And I ask myself the question: “would we go out one night per month and spend $40 because we didn’t watch Astros, Spurs, movies, etc? Of course we would. So we aren’t spending any more than we would be. Plus, we aren’t poor. What’s so ironic about it all is that we don’t watch national network tv hardly at all except for the Food Network. It’s all sports. It’s nice having a sports fan wife. I recommend it.
  18. The cord cutting thread covers a lot of the comments in here. But the reason I still have Uverse at a terrible price is because I can watch spurs, Astros, Mavs, Rangers, stars and everything else, and do it on one input. If you drop uverse, the internet fee jumps from $65 to $90, taking away some of the savings of jumping to YTTV. Once the spurs and Astros change next year, we switch.
  19. The Georgia game was so bad we started talking about life after football. We dropped network tv because of commercials. If the football commercials are going to be this bad, we may just walk away from the sport.
  20. I don't have time to read all that stuff, but while scrolling, I saw two gold quotes. "Elko has proven to be a program builder. Give him time." - YES, one whole year at Duke. bawaaaaaa. "Burn it all down." - It is impossible to burn something down that was already just burned down. There's nothing but ashes left as it is. bawaaaa.
  21. I know for a fact that respected talent evaluators felt Weigman was very solid coming out of high school with real star potential. I ascribe his problems more to poor coaching than lack of talent.
  22. Less than 24 hours later I still don’t understand how Aggie can screw up yet another game. ND was mostly ass all night. Aggie has some excellent DL and S talent. They have a good QB. They should have scored more than 13, and shouldn’t have given up huge chunks of yardage late. It’s almost like the team is just out of shape.
  23. That is awesome. Mcafee is that friend who you love showing up to the party because he’s loud and obnoxious, and then about 20 minutes later you are looking for a place to hide from him because he gets on your nerves so bad.
