  1. 4th and 5 and Crash Davis, if you are ever in my vicinity in person, your drinks are on me.👍 Now, game on, motherfuckers! No updates to report as of 10:17 am this morning, but new shit has come to light.
  2. The arguments over inflation are maddening for me. Both parties have been massive stimulators for inflation. Go back and look at deficits under Trump and Republicans. They are terrible. And while Democrats have used taxes to often run lower deficits, they’ve still been too high. But @Enchubban can’t see it, and the left Surly Cabal ignores the factions of their party that want to overspend and overtax. Just implement the recommendations compiled by moderates bipartisan groups and the problem would at least be under control. The plans are there already. But nope.
  3. Fun fact that will blow your mind. There are areas in Portland, Eugene, and Seattle that have the same average annual rainfall as Austin.
  4. The Republican Facebook propaganda copy and paste, explaining why Trump doesn’t matter. This is the disinformation that is capturing the dipshits. From Facebook: *********************** I shake my head sometimes with Trump and Twitter, BUT To all those who say..."I'd vote for anyone but TRUMP... I can't stand him!!" or "I can't believe you're voting for Trump!" Well folks listen up! This is not a jr. high or high school popularity/personality election!! I'm not just voting for the person, I'm voting for the platform! I'm voting for the second Amendment. I'm voting for the next supreme court justice. I'm voting for the electoral college, and the Republic we live in. I'm voting for the Police, and law and order. I'm voting for the military, and the veterans who fought for and died for this Country. I'm voting for the Flag. I'm voting for the right to speak my opinion and not be censored. I’m voting for secure borders. I’m voting for the right to praise my God without fear. I’m voting for every unborn soul. I’m voting for freedom and the American Dream. I’m voting for good and against evil. I'm not just voting for one person, I'm voting for the future of my Country and our Constitution which was written based on Biblical values and protects our freedoms under God! What are you voting for? God Bless the United States of America Copy and paste, I did!!! ************************ I can’t believe people are so gullible.
  5. #dump-mlb-umps. Bring on robo-umps
  6. Yes I remember him saying a few things. And Ross was from Westlake, so it sorta made sense that it was really Ross.
  7. I have a very sophisticated approach in play that will ultimately end in exactly what you describe.
  8. Not so fast. I have found some information which is relevant to this situation that would partially corroborate my memory. However, I will not publish the information here yet because I don't want to sully a potentially innocent man. I'm looking for more solid evidence to bolster what I've found. However, in my commitment to this thread to document my Putter Revenge Tour 2024, I have reached out to one of Bobby's descendants to investigate the whereabouts of the putter. I will report back if and when I hear something from this person.
  9. ya, I'm searching and thinking that maybe the reason I remembered the name Bobby is because he was the pro there when we played. It may have been someone else in the clubhouse.
  10. Holy shit, this might be the guy. He had curly hair back then but wore glasses like the picture.
  11. Silas The Serious.
  12. And I want it back. As a young boy in the mid-1970’s, I played golf with friends at Hancock golf course in Austin. We played all the time. Someone would drop us off early in the morning, we’d play all day, and then someone would pick us up in the late afternoon. One day the guy working the clubhouse noticed the putter in my bag. He wanted to buy it. Unbeknownst to me at the time, it was valuable. It was an antique MacGregor putter. My grandfather was a PGA golf professional and I inherited it when he passed away. With that putter I was deadly good. It was incredible. When I later came out of the clubhouse, it was gone. Fucker had stolen it, but I had no proof. The adult me would have beaten the shit out of him until he gave it back. The 11 year old me had no option, so I just had to brush it off. Another day, this asswipe tried to setup private lessons with me and my buddy. We both declined. Years later, this asshole was arrested and convicted of diddling little boys, presumably found at Hancock while he worked there. He went to jail for awhile. This guy might be dead. He might be alive and in jail. Or he might be alive and out of jail. If he’s alive, I want to track this guy down and find out what happened to my putter, even if it means visiting him in jail. I can’t remember his name or the year he was caught. Google searches proved fruitless. His first name might have been Bobby. He was caught somewhere between the years 1978-1995. There were Austin American Statesman news stories about it. That’s how I found out originally. If anyone can help me figure out who this guys was, I will chronicle my putter revenge tour here on Surly, and forever be in your debt. Edit: this is all allegedly.
  13. A cursory view of the draft over the last several years would indicate this statement is suboptimal in its accuracy.
  14. Dammit. Yea he’s probably best at safety, but imo he will be a fantastic CB too. I’m very surprised Texas didn’t just go ahead and make him one of the CB takes. Bummer. Or maybe they tried but he was headed to lsu anyway.
  15. We flipped past Star Wars: The Force Awakens this morning. Miss….Miss….Miss And while we are at it, Star Wars… MISS!
  16. Wasn’t Malik Jefferson Predator? No copycat nicknames allowed.
  17. I have zero feel for what this team will do. They lost of a ton of nfl talent, but they still have strong talent in key spots, with a QB who’s much more experienced. They have a new defensive coach who might help the defense overall. But the schedule is tough. I could see anywhere from 8-4 to 11-1. Will be an interesting year.
  18. That thread annoys me because technically IPTV is a protocol based specific technology, not a general term for generic IP based streaming services. Nerd rant over.
  19. I’m not going to worry about OT, even though our recruiting since the golden class has been a bit unclear in its potential. Texas ought to be able to have strong talent at the position one way or another. DT, DE, P and safety are the positions where there are open questions in general. QB, WR, RB, LB, OT, G/C, TE, K and CB seem to be well recruited positions since Sark arrived.
  20. Okay, for about the 10th straight year, we are investigating cutting the cord, again. This year might finally be the year due to the demise of LHN. We currently use UVerse with AT&T internet. The service is great. We get EVERYTHING, including movie channels. The price is ouch. $227/month all-in for one TV box. However, given our tv watching habits it’s worked well for us, allowing us to see everything we want with minimal flipping between services. Our watching needs are: 1. Longhorns sports - football, basketball, volleyball, baseball 2. College Football - espn, espn2, espnu, secn, B1g, accn, fs1, fs2, Ballys 3. MLB - Rangers, Astros 4. NBA - Spurs, Mavericks 5. Local - Austin ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox. Not getting other local I don’t think is an issue as long as we don’t miss sports 6. Entertainment/Misc - flexible. Nice to haves: Food Network, AXS, TNT, TBS, CNN, CNBC, HGTV, Golf, Showtime, Starz 7. questionable- what happens to the Space Network (Astros), regional Sports Ballys in the future? 8. Other Subscriptions- we have Netflix, Amazon Prime, Max (free), Disney+(family). We dropped Apple TV+ because there wasn’t enough content. Given all of the above, the main thing we will probably need with the current services is espn+. We’ve also periodically had interest in Ballys (not all Ballys games are shown on UVerse like Mavs), Hulu, and Peacock. Obviously we are heavy consumers of tv sports, with some other stuff mixed in. Right now I’m leaning towards just picking up either espn+, or the full Disney/Hulu/Espn+ bundle if we lose access to our family Disney+. Disney keeps threatening to do what Netflix did. Antenna in the attic is an issue. We have metal protective heat barriers on the underside of the roof, making it difficult to get signals. So instead of supplementing the current setup, it seems the only alternative is YouTube tv with espn+, but we’d lose a lot of content for about a $30-60/month savings. That’s right on the edge of being worth it for us.
  21. If you don’t like Matt Maclearin you better get used to him because he’s bringing in new advertisers like breweries.
  22. "Apart from the sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh water system and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?"
  23. The complaint I kept hearing was also taste declined. But I never go there, primarily because friends warned me away from it. Anyway back to market news.
  24. My insurance guy is in Houston, from when I lived there, if anyone needs a guy.
  25. Everywhere I turned over the last year or two, friends and family have been telling me Chipotle sucks these days. And I just saw that the CEO had produced excellent earnings growth over the last several years, hence why he was hired to Starbucks. So what’s the real story on Chipotle? All my friend are wrong, or my friends are smarter than all the dipshits still giving them business?
