  1. According to an internal document seen by POLITICO, the Commission is considering slapping tariffs of up to 25 percent on a broad range of exports from the U.S. in response to Trump's levies on steel and aluminum. https://www.politico.eu/article/eu-trade-bazooka-anti-coercion-instrument-donald-trump-tariffs/
  2. Leonard Leo and Charles Koch are suing on behalf of Simplified. It doesn't mention venue. A libertarian group backed by Leonard Leo and Charles Koch has mounted a legal challenge against Donald Trump’s tariff regime, in a sign of spreading rightwing opposition to a policy that has sent international markets plummeting. The New Civil Liberties Alliance filed a suit against Trump’s imposition of import tariffs on exports from China, arguing that doing so under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) – which the president has invoked to justify the duties on nearly all nations – is unlawful. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/apr/07/trump-tariffs-lawsuit
  3. “Oil prices are down, interest rates are down (the slow moving Fed should cut rates!), food prices are down, there is NO INFLATION, and the long time abused USA is bringing in Billions of Dollars a week from the abusing countries on Tariffs that are already in place,” he wrote on Truth Social just before 7 a.m. https://nypost.com/2025/04/07/us-news/trump-shows-no-sign-of-backing-away-from-sweeping-tariff-plans-even-claiming-there-is-no-inflation/ Yeah, it's the NY Post, but I am not going to go find it on Truthy Social
  4. That gutless wonder left his little dog at home and took off to Cancun. That's after he let Trump insult his wife, capitulated and made campaign phone calls. He ain't gonna do shit
  5. I don't think it's going to ever make it that far. I expect it's an attempt to show that at least a handful of 'sensible people' want to do something about tariffs.
  6. I wonder if Tesla goes below 200 this week.
  7. Oof The situation was not better in other parts of the world. Stock futures in Japan were briefly halted after futures for the country’s Nikkei 225 and Topix indexes declined by more than 8%. Circuit breakers kick in on the Japanesese stock exchanges when the Nikkei or Topix move more than 8% in either direction. https://www.nbcnews.com/business/business-news/us-stock-futures-plunge-ahead-monday-open-trump-tariffs-shock-continue-rcna199924 So frazzled they misspelled it.
  8. Man that was some high quality goal tending
  9. I particularly liked this one.
  10. I'm not going to pretend that I understand much about the stock market. But, it's fairly obvious to even the least sophisticated investor that this market downturn is due to one man. Whether or not his allies or sycophants want to admit it or not is immaterial. The markets, including things like ag are seeing unusual activity. I think that's a safe way to describe it in apolitical terms. I read along and generally lurk because I don't have a lot to contribute and I would rather try to learn something than holler about the state of my accounts. I can go holler in CR and argue about whatever I think is happening and what might be next, but that's not why I read this thread. But, in this continuing series of events it's unavoidable that political points will arise because that's what is driving it. The Chinese slapping a 34% tariff, the Canadians pulling whiskey off the shelves, and the markets responding to these things can be laid at the feet of a single individual. The last time we saw a Fear and Greed index number of 4 was right after the pandemic began to really sink into the brains of people on about 3/16/20. It was actually a 2 but a fucking 4 is pretty close. The market has been in Extreme Fear territory for a while. It bobbed up to plain old fear of 20 something a few days ago but it's been consistently in the extreme for most of the last month or so and the selloff reflects that. I don't see it changing any time soon. I probably should go snap up some Ford at sub ten dollars but I just can't. Ethereum at sub 2k? I would have been getting some of that too. Not now. It can sit in the bank and draw pennies for all I care right now. If I want to gloat about idiots losing their shit buying OAN or DJT I know where to go drink from that fountain of tears. But, crying CR when it's been an entirely political decision to make the market behave this way is avoiding the topic. I'll hang up and listen.
  11. Ever. They are going with a different one next year. Edit: well, that's the rumor. It's definitely the last time this season
  12. 6 goals and double digit assists since arriving
  13. Market-wide circuit breakers provide for cross-market trading halts during a severe market decline as measured by a single-day decrease in the S&P 500 Index. A cross-market trading halt can be triggered at three circuit breaker thresholds—7% (Level 1), 13% (Level 2), and 20% (Level 3). These triggers are set by the markets at point levels that are calculated daily based on the prior day’s closing price of the S&P 500 Index. A market decline that triggers a Level 1 or Level 2 circuit breaker before 3:25 p.m. will halt market-wide trading for 15 minutes, while a similar market decline “at or after” 3:25 p.m. will not halt market-wide trading. A market decline that triggers a Level 3 circuit breaker, at any time during the trading day, will halt market-wide trading for the remainder of the trading day. https://www.investor.gov/introduction-investing/investing-basics/glossary/stock-market-circuit-breakers
  14. 4 point game with Winnipeg coming up. That's going to be pretty crucial.
