  1. Not saying that. But they've had trouble finding a message to get consistent support. I think the major flip in this election confirms that problem.
  2. Even then, there was no confidence in getting support from the Latino community.
  3. If we're talking about Latinos, they are definitely not a monolith. And from what I understand, the Democratic Party generally acknowledges their trouble with connecting with Latinos.
  4. I don't know were #2 comes from. Feels invented by right wing media.
  5. I play golf almost on a weekly basis with my best friend's dad who is 30 years older than me. He grew up in Oklahoma, went to OU, huge Sooner fan, full blown Trumper. And I love him. He's a good father. He's an awesome grandfather who is attentive and always wanting to be with his 8 grandchildren. I'm close with all his children and their kids, all wonderful people (none are Trumpers, FYI). He's stubborn, passionate, and loyal. We couldn't be more different in many ways. He is many generations American, I'm a child of two immigrants from two different countries and cultures. We have many Texas-OU discussions and arguments, but always respectful. I know if I ever needed support or help in my personal life, he would jump at the opportunity and vice versa. We purposely rarely talk about politics, as it's gotten heated. But I realize he's all bark and no bite with a lot of these issues. We once had a calm and civil conversation, and a lot of what he genuinely believes sounds like something from a Bernie Sanders platform. Life is complicated. No chance I abandon our friendship due to politics.
  6. This doesn't really answer his question though.
  7. Also Frank, I've seen you mention narcissism from Democrats on other threads. I've been deeply affected by someone who I fully believe has Narcissistic Personality Disorder. It was not diagnosed by Menninger when this person went in for evaluation, but I think they just missed it. I made this discovery on my own through research, and a few years later I can confidently say it's been confirmed through my lived experience with this person. All of us exhibit some form of narcissism, there is a spectrum. And at least 6-7 types. My story involves someone who is a covert narcissist. I've seen some scuttlebutt about some loud political protesters on the left exhibiting a form of communal narcissism. I think it's likely there is truth to that. Narcissism in general is clearly on the rise, and it's a deeply harmful disorder that has massive psychological effects on their victims. I don't think it's talked about enough, and I know from personal experience there are not enough therapists and psychologists who are well informed about it or even looking for it. I could start an entire thread regarding this. Would you agree with me that Donald Trump exhibits all the forms of a classic overt (and most likely, malignant) narcissist?
  8. I think that's a fair question and concern. I would definitely lean on the former as well at first thought.
  9. For me, it's been different this time. I don't think Trump is a Republican. He's whatever he needs to be to acquire more power and influence. Bush, Romney, McCain...full on Republicans. The concerns were more ideological and represented the GOP. What scares people about Trump is the belief there is no ideology. He's a total wildcard. I know that's considered a positive by a portion of his supporters, but it's clearly not with people that have been against him, including myself.
  10. Nonsense.
  11. The goal here is just to start a conversation and go from there. Politicians are gonna politic. This thread isn't about them, it's about us.
  12. My question to Republican friends on here...care to chime in on this? If you want fewer abortions in this country, do you agree with the above being one of the acceptable solutions?
  13. We were pelted with nonstop anti-Trans TV ads for the last month in Texas and it was just "noise"? What?
  14. Can we all agree that it's absolutely ridiculous that Congresspeople can own/trade stocks while in office? WHAT THE FUCK??? I know Pelosi is a god to diehard Dems, and I can appreciate that she plays the political game very well. But how the fuck can people sit there and read articles about her buying NVIDIA stock and not find that shit 100% unacceptable. It's a huge issue within both parties. I've said for a while now that we should significantly increase the salaries of people in Congress with the caveat that they dump any stocks before taking office. Pay Senators 500k a year. Give'em a million, I don't give a shit. The increased $$$ is peanuts, and I think it's good to incentive thoughtful and ambitious people to enter government instead of just heading to the private sector. I'm good with them being very secure financially. Just eliminate their ability to be influenced or paid off by corporations and other entities. FUCK.
  15. It took about 2 seconds of seeing Ryan Wingo on the field to understand why he was so highly ranked and coveted. Never felt that way to me watching Cook, though obviously he can still have success somewhere.
  16. Well, hopefully the vitriol can be contained on all the other threads. I'm willing to listen to you, JBJ.
  17. That sucks but not surprising. Something has felt off even going back to last year.
  18. I just can't wrap my head around the idea that state rights is a good idea with abortion. Determining personal freedoms based on where you or your parents live seems absolutely ridiculous to me. It forces people to move away from where they WANTED to be, and the long term affects of that type of migration will split this country apart even further.
  19. I voted against three Republicans I've know personally for years. I admit it was an emotional decision. One is a County Commissioner. He's the dad of one of my lifelong friends and I still see him occasionally. Great guy and always liked him even though he's diehard Aggie. His wife went to seminary school about 30 years ago and became REAL religious. I still remember one Saturday morning in my 20s when I got a knock at the door, and with a massive hangover opened it to see the now County Commissioner's wife standing there with a travel bible asking if she could come in and talk to me. This is a woman that took me and her son to the mall as kids with 20 bucks to buy as much candy as we could. We smoked cigarettes in their backyard in HS when they were out to dinner. Girls came over and naughty shit was happening while they slept. She gifted me the bible and expressed her deep concern about me going to hell. I politely listened and she left. Still love her though.
  20. Coming in hot. Politically, I believe abortion should be legal with no restrictions. Simple as that. Personally, I think it would be ideal if abortion numbers decrease significantly. It has nothing to do with religion for me. It's because abortion, I assume, is a terrible thing for a person to go through, and I don't want other people to suffer physically or mentally. I do think Buttigeg was eloquent in his defense of late term abortions with a perspective that needs to be considered more often. A lot of people have already bought a crib or picked out a name. It can be devastating for a family to make that decision, but is THEIR decision. They have to live with it, not us. So how do we get abortion numbers down? I think sex education is important. Why are we pretending we can shield kids from this stuff when modern technology literally guides us to porn? It's just openly posted on Twitter at this point. If you were to type in "Mark Kelly" in the search button , there's a decent chance that if you scroll down you'll see a video of some dude name Mark fucking a girl named Kelly in the ass. It's ridiculous. I think contraception and pregnancy tests should be incredibly cheap, if not free. Happy to hear more detailed suggestions. We need to make it very easy and inexpensive for women to go to the doctor in a timely fashion. Streamline and speed up the adoption process. Properly incentivize people that will carry to term. I know there are many other things that can help, these are just some initial offerings and I'm no expert. For those that are anti-abortion due to religious beliefs, I just think that sex is literally a part of our existence and that religion is a social construct. I respect your personal beliefs and for you to live your lives in accordance, as long as you're not harming others. It's impossible to determine the circumstances and lived experience of others, let them safely make their own decision.
  21. I sense this is probably not gonna work out, but wanted to try to start a discussion thread about our overall politics, culture, issues, and the upcoming Trump term in good faith. If others are open to it, let's avoid the hysterics, name calling, and overly judgmental rhetoric to discuss issues and news as liberals/conservatives/none of the above, Trump or anti-Trump supporters. Maybe something good will come out of it, even if it's just in this community. I am not a Democrat. I tend to vote very heavy towards Democrats in this landscape. I hate the two party system. I have a set of personal values, and that dictates my positions, not party lines. I admit that the result of this election saddens me, but it's a relief that it was a clear and indisputable decision. The people have spoken. I think that opens the door to clear minds and introspection. I think we can all agree that we live in troubling times as a society and the future is very hazy. Can't depend on government and politicians to figure it out. It's on us. No trolling. If you have a strong position, present it. We can argue. Let's be patient with each other and not run off posters. I will genuinely listen and process and be thoughtful with replies. Join me.
  22. If this team stays healthy they will be a problem. Amen & Tari are demons off the bench. Fun team to watch.
  23. Candidate for DNC CHAIR.
  24. And then when you consider young men into Tech and AI, this fucking idiot is considered a God to them.
