  1. Still off topic When funny goes wrong: Back in law school, my wife and I went out for dinner. She wore this dress that probably was a little past its early/mid 90s prime. Two solid, diagonal stripes. She looked great. So hot (no pics). But all I could think of was that Seinfeld episode where the girl wears the same dress on every date, so I say to her, "I love that dress. You look like a super hero." She was gracious and gave me a chuckle, a smile, or a glare. Who can remember? Anyway, years later, she told me she never wore that dress again. It didn't land as funny at all. Oops. More recently, an old picture of her wearing the dress occasionally will pop up on the Amazon FireTV slide show screen saver [hyphens omitted]. I'll give her a look and a smile, and she smiles and shakes here head at my dumb ass. Still got it.
  2. I dunno. Can you pound a twelve-inch spike through a board with your penis? Also, over time, I learned that if I liked a girl, I needed to make my intentions clear pretty early. I had a lot of women friends back then. Not complaining about that. Just an observation.
  3. I didn't develop real game until a bit later. But I was pretty funny. I leaned into it. It eventually morphed into game. I think my biggest challenge was that I don't suffer fools well, regardless of gender. But I could be temporarily flexible on that score back in the day given the right set of circumstances. Alcohol helped.
  4. That article calls it everything from "The Gulf" to the "waters off the Texas coast." It avoids calling it the "Gulf of" anything.
  5. I thought it was A-B-A-B-A-B-Up-Down-Up-Down? Or was that NES?
  6. Seriously, though. The UC schools are so hard to get into. Really impressive!
  7. Late, but, "A stretcher for his balls?" https://clip.cafe/the-bad-news-bears-1976/cleveland-stretcher/
  8. Man, they fucking clothes-lined Sid the Science Kid!
  9. Go Banana Slugs! edit: Oh wait. Go Gouchos! Congrats to her!
  10. I think the girl on the right is the main reason why my son is taking German at UT this semester. Maybe not her, but similar.
  11. I read that in your avatar's voice.
  12. I keep repping all the posts of this sentiment. But somehow, it's not enough. So, holy shit!
  13. My wife's cousin bought one. Fortunately, he only taxied it around the neighborhood. After that, it fell into disrepair thankfully.
  14. One of these. Video has some "hell no" views in flight. I remember there used to be an Ultralight park off of I-10 in between Houston and Sealy in the 80s.
  15. I used to fly, and when I was in ground school, we watched a video as a warning not to engage in aerobatics in planes not properly stressed for such maneuvers. The video was one of an air show. A guy in a Cessna was flying a couple of hundred feet above the runway. His wife was MCing the airshow. He does a barrel roll and, about half-way through the maneuver, the wings just fold off. As the plane plunges toward the ground, his wife is on the PA system screaming bloody murder. The plane crashes and he is killed. She continues to scream. It never occurred to me to try to roll a Cessna. I certainly didn't have any inclination to do so after watching that video. /edit to add: I don't know how Doug Masters did it, especially after Notcher loosened his oil cap.
  16. It's a little more removed on appeal. I'll never forget the first murder case I worked on though. I can recount every name and detail of that one. It really stuck with me. In my time, I've worked with a lot of former prosecutors. The gallows humor seems to be a learned skill. But even having worked with people who have seen it all up close, some crime scene photos can't be unseen. What's that line from The Stand? "Just pretend it's cord wood, Hawk." It's not all awful. The car-chase videos are pretty rad, in fact.
  17. I went to law school in Houston. There was this 13th floor cafeteria nearby that was convenient during the day. During my 1L year, I grabbed some lunch up there one day and was sitting by the window. I looked out at downtown Houston and saw a body that quite literally just had kersplatted on a concrete awning of a nearby building. I didn't see the guy jump, but probably would have had I looked out a few seconds sooner. I don't care to ever see a jumper post-mortem again. As part of my job, I unfortunately have to look at all sorts of gruesome, crime scene photos, including murder victims and car accident victims. I'm able to compartmentalize it, but that shit sticks with you nonetheless. TLDR. I've seen some shit.
  18. The one I just got doesn't recirculate water/coffee that's already been through the grounds like a percolator, but it has a domed top and the shower sprays the water off the dome to cause it to spread more efficiently (sort of like a percolator). My mom had one and I drank many a cup of coffee off of it when I'd visit over the years. I like it for nostalgia's sake, but it's not my favorite (always tasted a little burnt).
  19. Well, after 24 years of faithful service, my Cuisinart 1200 drip coffee maker finally bit the dust. If I were smart and not curious about whether there's a drip machine out there that could make a better cup (for the money), I'd have bought another Cuis' 1200. But I insist on learning life's moderately priced lessons and decided to try the Zojirushi 12-cup machine, which boast the ability to brew a pot faster and hotter (195--200F) than other machines in its price range. Today's my first cup and it's definitely hotter and faster than the 1200. I'll toy with the brew strength tomorrow. At this point, I'd say it's moderately better with a few more adjustment capabilities and some sort of ice-coffee setting I haven't messed with yet.
  20. Since we're waxing 90s BBQ nostalgia, the best BBQ I remember eating during my time at UT in the early 90s is the brisket and sausage my mom would pick up from that little roadside shack on the Austin side of the 71 overpass in La Grange. It was pretty great by early 90s standards. He died a few years after I graduated, but that became a regular stop on my Austin--Houston travels.

Stiles Switch 2 or 3 meat plate is super reasonable at around $30 plus or minus.
  22. Yeah, well they're a bunch of fooking muppets, ain't they!?!
  23. Minus five. Keep your units consistent.
