    Bert!

  2. He borrowed it from Wulawhorn. So it's rated to weather the elements, among other things.
  3. In that same vein, a friend of mine grew up in Houston. He had a 2WD Ford Explorer. He went to college at Hamilton in Utica. That winter, he earned the nickname "Two-wheel Timmy" for his inability to drive anywhere.

For those who haven't tried oven-roux, it not only allows you to do other prep during the process, but it elevates the flavor of the final product nearly as much as making your own stock. It takes longer than doing it on the stovetop (about 2 hours), but you can do it the night before or while doing other things. But again, it is a game-changer as far as flavor goes, and I haven't made a roux on the stovetop in the two years since I did my first oven roux. Preheat oven to 350. Mix roux in a cast iron pan over medium heat. Put in the oven and stir every twenty minutes until it hits your desired color.
  5. I love the earlier stuff, but this one was really great too.
  6. In Austin? Because it's been in the 20s and 30s in north and northeast Texas for the last several nights. I'd love to see a forecast that shows it to be smooth sailing along I20 from Tyler to Arlington. I'm holding out hope. But it's not supposed to get above freezing here until 11 on Friday. Give a brother some hope! I've got a tentative kitchen pass to make a solo trip if it doesn't look like I'm going to drive into a ditch. /difficulty = No AWD.
  7. I hear it don't smell so good though.
  8. According to my doc, this is about 80% of us.
  9. Yeah. We both eventually were English majors too, right?
  10. Oh, wow. I definitely blocked that from my memory. Also, Ministry was a bit much.
  11. My German/Yiddish is a bit rusty. But kiester them thangs. At least wrap one in foil a la Derek Smalls in Spinal Tap.
  12. In one weekend in 92, I saw Lollapolooza 2 and the Faith No More/Metallica/Guns n Roses show. I was on the front row at the latter and James Hetfield gave me a beer (more accurately, he poured half a bottle of Heineken in my mouth from the stage). Either way, it was funny and appreciated. What a weekend. In two days, Ice Cube, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, Sound Garden, Jesus and Mary Chain, Ministry, Faith No More, Metalica, GnR. Ice Cube probably was the standout. I also, with free tickets, ended up seeing Tesla open for Lynard Skynard a couple of years later. We were pretty bored and sitting down (pretty good seats), and Jeff Keith yelled at us for not being more into it.
  13. I saw them several times and have a few albums. I'll still listen to a track here and there. But by the late 90s, I found their shows to kind of drone on-and-on. They have some good songs though. I ended up spending a lot more time with music from the Dead, Phish, Zappa, Talking Heads, Tom Petty, Stones, Kinks, and so on.
  14. I look at this exercise as if every song isn't at least an 8/10, it doesn't fit.
  15. Also, for an album many of you may have never heard of with absolutely no skip-worthy tracks on it, check this out. I listened to it with my 19 year old the other night, and got a "Wow" at the end.
  16. No MOE or Rusted Root for me (I tried). I did see Soulhat open for Blues Traveler at Fitzgerald's in Houston in April (or so) of 1992). I was parked front row-center. Amazing show. I still have one of Brendan Hill's drum sticks from the show. Remember when bands used to toss drum sticks and guitar picks into the crowd? Around 95, I sold a lot of CDs and replaced them with a lot of funk, Grateful Dead, Phish, and Widespread panic. That's where I hid out during a lot of the post-Cobain/grunge era of the mid to late 90s.
  17. Well, for a little background, by the time I was at UT in the fall of 92, I listened to an absurd amount of Soulhat, a long with Blues Traveler and similar music. So Blind Melon fits that vibe, rather than the Nirvana, et al style of music, grunge or whatever I listened to a lot in high school. That was my 90s, and so Blind Melon fits that mold for me.
  18. Candy-O is my favorite. A good friend got me to buy the vinyl of it last year, and after one listen, I bought two more Cars albums. I'm still hooked. I love missing out on something on the first run and getting to discover it for myself later in life. I wish that sort of thing happened more often.
  19. Maybe it's because I was in high school/college in the early 90s. But, to me, that Blind Melon album sounds super-90s. That's not to say I don't like it. But the rhythm section gives me that early Blues Traveler vibe.
  20. For what it's worth, I own a 1999 PRS HBII. But the hate for that headstock on this thread from others is real.
  21. Okay, Paul.
  22. I saw him with the Flaming Lips backing him at Will Rogers Auditorium in Fort Worth and it was incredible. String Cheese Incident at the Backyard in Austin (2001). Utterly boring show. Then some girl got nabbed by the cops and started freaking out and screaming. My buddy and I looked at each other and decided to bounce. Honorable Mention: Rush at the Summit (1992). I entered the venue a casual fan and left never wanting to listen to them again. Absolutely nothing exciting about seeing them live. Felt like listening to the album with a relatively mediocre light show. But the worst part was being surrounded by all the Rush fans.
  23. Probably Candy-O, as well.
  24. I use public toilets and I piss on the seat. I walk around in the summertime, sayin', How about this heat!
