Do you and your spouse sleep in a separate room?
Two things that suck about traveling, likely lack of bidets and white noise machines (my wife had a Marpac app that was discontinued. Not sure if she still does, but I need to sideload it onto my phone for travel.

I can't fall asleep to the flickering light of the TV, but we use our Google Home speaker as a white noise machine. Occasionally, I'll play rain sounds on it. The ocean one wasn't as good, but those things have lots of relaxing sounds programmed. And if you don't like the internet speakers, there's always the gold standard: Marpac mechanical white noise machine. We got a pair of them when our second child was born (so he wouldn't wake up the 3 year old. You can tune them and block out just about everything.

Texas BBQ
I would have have described it as better than fine back then but not great. What I ate the other night was great, and I don't know what could be improved. I forgot to mention above that they also changed their beef source to 44Farms in the last year. The vibe is awesome for sure.

We ate at Stanley's on Tuesday night. The brisket was damned great, and it already had noticeably improved a couple of years back. I've tried to be pretty objective since it's my local, but damn it was elevated. And this is the second time recently I've noticed it. So what changed? Apparently, they've hired Jordan Jackson to consult, and he's been doing so for the better part of the last year. Since then, they've added another 1,000 gallon pit (apparently, they were doing briskets on a rotisserie in recent years, and while it was good, they're now on the new offset). The difference is very notable. He also has them cooking chicken halves over mesquite on a newly-purchased, direct-fired wood smoker (looks like the one from Leroy & Lewis). I may try one next time. They look good. They've been sold out of ribs the last two times I've been (both times for dinner), but whatever was off about them in the past has been corrected, and they are very tasty again. I don't know if they're doing all of this because they want to push into the top ten or just to make better BBQ or what. But the food there is elevated right now. With Texas Monthly's recent tendency to give nods to places that do more than just the trinity well (Mother Clucker hollah!), I can understand their wanting to give it a shot, albeit a long one.

I believe the house bill is more toward regulation than a ban. ICBW. So if the house passes its bill, there may be some reconciliation. But I fear this will be like a compromise with my wife, i.e., she wants vanilla ice cream, I want chocolate ice cream, so we compromised and got vanilla ice cream.

I had the point side of the brisket at our local Rudy's once and it was inedible. That pretty much spawned my complaint about how terrible the trinity is there.

Rudy's is a taco, sandwich, stuffed potato joint. That's it. It's fine for the rest, but don't expect bbq that isn't macerated and mixed with sauce to taste good from there.

Do you and your spouse sleep in a separate room?
Same. It happens. We don't take it personally. But we remark about a good-night's-sleep when it all synchs up and we sleep in the same bed, which is most nights. You get used to your humans.

Looks like they close at 8:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. If they're open, I'm guessing they have a good selection of food. It's not a line-up type of joint. It's like the much better (to me) version of Terry Black's.- Shit HEB Makes (when its open).
I thought he was the brother that was kicked out of the Sammich/Meats business. The one in Houston was pretty good back in the day. I didn't know they still sold them anywhere.- Ukraine War
Solid story. A lot to unpack there. Sorry to have assisted Brisket in derailing this thread. I haven't thread jacked anything this much since three days ago when I made a high-school science, "keep-your-units-consistent joke," and set off a firestorm of Ford/Chevy/Dodge enthusiasts arguing about metric versus English designations for small block engines and which was called what when. Again, my sincere apologies. Slava Ukraini!- Ukraine War
Still off topic When funny goes wrong: Back in law school, my wife and I went out for dinner. She wore this dress that probably was a little past its early/mid 90s prime. Two solid, diagonal stripes. She looked great. So hot (no pics). But all I could think of was that Seinfeld episode where the girl wears the same dress on every date, so I say to her, "I love that dress. You look like a super hero." She was gracious and gave me a chuckle, a smile, or a glare. Who can remember? Anyway, years later, she told me she never wore that dress again. It didn't land as funny at all. Oops. More recently, an old picture of her wearing the dress occasionally will pop up on the Amazon FireTV slide show screen saver [hyphens omitted]. I'll give her a look and a smile, and she smiles and shakes here head at my dumb ass. Still got it.- Ukraine War
I dunno. Can you pound a twelve-inch spike through a board with your penis? Also, over time, I learned that if I liked a girl, I needed to make my intentions clear pretty early. I had a lot of women friends back then. Not complaining about that. Just an observation.- Ukraine War
I didn't develop real game until a bit later. But I was pretty funny. I leaned into it. It eventually morphed into game. I think my biggest challenge was that I don't suffer fools well, regardless of gender. But I could be temporarily flexible on that score back in the day given the right set of circumstances. Alcohol helped.- Ukraine War

That article calls it everything from "The Gulf" to the "waters off the Texas coast." It avoids calling it the "Gulf of" anything.- Trump’s America
I thought it was A-B-A-B-A-B-Up-Down-Up-Down? Or was that NES?- So, back to that legalization thing
FIFY- So my kiddo got accepted to UC Santa Barbara
Seriously, though. The UC schools are so hard to get into. Really impressive! - Texas BBQ
