  1. I got to check out Brisket Love in Lindale last Friday. Brisket was very good, but the house-made sausage not so much. I'll need to try the ribs next time, but definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. Not to far from I-20.
  2. Give Big Phil money for the Blue Smoke Smoker. This thing is ridiculous for what it costs.
  3. I got it home safely. This thing is a well-constructed beast. Got it burned in/seasoned today. My wife said that it was "pretty" and that she "liked the patina.". Love this woman. She's a keeper

    First 2 hours of MTV

Well, my night is done. I'm 37 minutes in. So hooked
  5. Which part of my, "this is a bit" .gif was not clear?
  6. I've got a friend in Chicago with two kids (boy and girl), and both of them loved UT didn't apply because of "politics." /choice is the 99% reason for his kids and others //meanwhile my older son who probably is, somehow, more liberal than Dad, is enjoying Austin like we all used to and isn't worrying about politics in the least. ///shrugs
  7. Sorry, I edited my post to make what was going through my mind funny. See above /edit: So I believe a more appropriate response would be, "BLOW IT UP!!!! BLOW IT BACK TO GOD!!!"
  8. Nah. I think most of us revere good CFS. Back in the early 2000s, I thought Lucile's in Ft. Worth did a pretty fine job with it, if I do say so myself.
  9. I got the official word that it's ready to be picked up tomorrow, on my birthday, no less. Here's the first picture of my pit (as opposed to a pit). I like the patina. More pics to follow. And for anyone in the area, come over to ETX Brewing tomorrow evening at 6:30 for the Second Annual [DCBC]toberfest. We had a good crowd last year and plan to have this party in my honor every year oontil I Kroke. Prost!
  10. I'm not sure where else to put this. But I laughed . . .
  11. The ones the put in the American Standards from 88--early 90. I bought the 51 nocasters for my Wildwood 52 AV and like them much better than the Twisted Tele pickups that came with it (the neck TT is too straty). But the nocasters are their own thing. Kind of dark and gnarly. Rock machines. The pickups in my 64 AV are bright and chimey. They're what you think of when you think Tele. The ones in my 90 Standard are somewhere in between and lean a bit toward the 64. But they really are their own thing. I've posted this video before, but here are the 64 AV pickups.
  12. Honest question: Does the pharmacy get screwed over by those GoodRx cards? Because when my "scam" BCBS-affiliated prescription card decided not to cover my Test. prescription, that GoodRx thing really helped bridge the gap from my (consumer) standpoint?
  13. Thanks. I thought about the garage. I used to keep a home brewery about the same size or larger in there. But I don't want to BBQ in the front yard. It will be under cover on the back patio (with a cover), and I'll just have to be good about hitting it with oil regularly to keep the rust at bay as best I can. The ultimate goal is to build a grilling structure in the back of the yard that can be closed off when not in use. But that's probably several years away (if at all). But if it happens. There will be more pictures.
  14. The plan is to cut a sheet of OSB in half and just make a continuing path to roll it to my back deck. If the OSB and trailer ramps aren't sufficient to get it on the deck, I have a 2-ton floor jack to encourage it. from the top of my driveway to the backyard is pretty flat. So it shouldn't be too awful. It has 6" rubber coated casters (two swivel). So as long as it's on a smooth surface, it should roll okay. Once in place, I don't plan to move it much farther than about 10 feet out on the deck (on a fireproof mat). So it shouldn't be much of a chore. The friend who's helping me weighs about 260 and used to do Olympic lifting. I on the other hand will shriek like Wendy in the Shining if things get too heavy. Should be fine. Best laid plans, and so on . . .
  15. Some of these pits have a fixed steel lip in the pass-thru between the firebox and the cook chamber, and they tend not to work that well (and get cut out by users). The slant (a/k/a "scoop") baffle is fan shaped at the top with some holes cut in it and slants away from the firebox. So it directs some heat upward, but not immediately and lets some pass through the holes below grate level. Tuning plates force heat/smoke underneath them and can be spaced or, otherwise have holes to let it rise up farther down the cook chamber. I've seen these used more successfully in reverse flow smokers. Correction: I guess they're called scoop baffles.
  16. While most any time is a good time for child labor, among the things I need him to do on Saturday is vote. I figure a sheet of OSB cut in half will make rolling that bit pit, which I've tentatively named "Karl Hungus" (because of the logjammin'), into the backyard across the deck, and onto the concrete portion of the patio manageable. On a semi-related note, I've heard good things and am interested to see how well the removable "slant baffle" that comes with this pit works for evening out the heat in the cooking chamber. Supposedly, it does a great job.
  17. I got the call. They started work on her this week. I'll either pick up the pit on Friday (if it's done by then) or, since the older kid is coming home from school for the weekend, early next week. Now I need to clear some space on the patio to find room for everything under cover.
  18. Good RX Coupon will get you 10 1ml vials of Test.-Cyp. 200ml for $56. That''s roughly a 3 month supply. For me, it's cheaper on insurance, but I've used it on the few occasions insurance got a little stingy.
  19. Maybe not the worst, but the whiplash of emotions loss for a game I attended in recent memory was that loss to Cal after Heard (at QB) ran took it to the house in the last seconds of the game only to have Nick Rose miss the PAT. Dead silence all the way out of DKR.
  20. I voted yesterday morning at a predominantly Black-attended church near my office. I've voted there the last few election cycles. Everyone there always has been kind and enthusiastic, and there uniformly is a lack of MAGAts in evidence. The parking lot was full, but I hit a lull in the line and was in and out in fifteen minutes. A long line filled in behind me. My wife voted there this morning and had no wait.
