  1. Alan Rickman’s overacting is what makes that movie work. And Morgan Freeman.
  2. Well, they’ve done it before. Pretty fucking ironic that the pro-life crowd is cool killing people because they are prolife. See the murder of Dr. Tiller and countless abortion clinics firebombed. These people are fucking crazy.
  3. The writing in the Yang Capote sketch was great. The frozen embryo from Alabama was good too.
  4. Second Chocolateria San Gines for churros and chocolate. So good. Restaurant Sacha, which is a little out of town in Chamartin (a residential section of Madrid to the north). This was my start to Madrid, was outstanding, and is a place where chefs go to eat. Casa Dani for Tortilla. I enjoyed all the tapas at Bodegas De La Ardosa at Calle Colón, 13. The seafood at La Tasquita de Enfrente was excelellent. La Lloreia was a sleeper hit. Was recommended it on Hungry Onion (now that Chowhound is gone, it is where everyone went), and it did not disappoint. It was so good, so creative, and so reasonable! Barmiton is a really good bar and restaurant in La Latina. It isn't on the famous Tapas street, but just a block or two from there. Also, right down the road is Tresde who does great French food with Spanish flair at a reasonable price. Also, all the restuarants and bars at the Edition are worth checking out. All really, really good with world famous chefs. The hotel is outstanding.
  5. Fuck that. There are a lot of people in this country who are brainwashed. And ANYONE that thinks this country was in better shape or more secure under Russian Agent Trump than under Biden is fucking delusional and deserves zero apologies from you and quite frankly, deserves a massive amount of derision and scorn. These people cannot be reasoned with.
  6. Spend a lot of time in other parts of the world? Pretty obvious from this statement that you do not. I think you are full of shit. We are less safe and less secure as a country DIRECTLY due to the actions of Donald J. Trump and the GOP. Go fuck yourself. Can't cure stupid. Too few of these people died during COVID.
  7. This. It is amazing. I use it every year. Though admittedly, the Texas one is usually better than the one here in NY.
  8. Seems to me that some of you assholes need to get involved in Texas politics and help develop the bench. It is infuriating, but seems like that is what a lot of us should be doing.
  9. Nex lived with their grandmother. That tells you a lot of what you needed to know.
  10. In any case, they could not stand up or walk to the nurses office after the fight. Fuck that.
  11. So, weekend in Paris in March. Then thinking a long weekend in Rome in April. Working these around work trips to London and celebrations for hitting big work deadlines. Will probably have something in June (will be in the UK), then Florence and Tuscany in September. I was also hoping to do some Christmas Markets in December (another work trip to London to wrap up the year). Still going to try and do a cheeky weekend in Central/South America as well if possible. Maybe even Mexico.
  12. Actually, you called someone unhinged, but you confused the person reporting it and the politician. THAT is what you got called out for. Then you fucked off here to bitch about it. Slorch’d.
  13. Kind of what I was wondering.
  14. This is infuriating. https://www.losangelesblade.com/2024/02/19/oklahoma-non-binary-high-schooler-dies-after-physical-altercation/
  15. 10 hours is long enough to do a decent tour of the city. 7 hours is just too short IMO.
  16. Alright, I'm in London for work the week of March 18. It is cheaper for me to fly home from Paris, so I'm going to be magnanimous and go to Paris for a weekend. Then I'm back in London for work the 16th of April. That trip is a bit open ended, but I think I might try and hop down to either Rome or Cordoba once we've wrapped everything up and signed our accounts. Still playing with the second trip, but the first is done. Flying JFK to LHR on the 16th of March. I will train to Paris on Friday, March 22. Not sure what time yet, but as I'm going to try and submit our draft accounts around noon, I'll try and get out early afternoon. I'm going to stay at Le Roch, because I love it. Thinking dinner at MoSuke because I loved it and it's only open weekdays. No plans the rest of the weekend other than most likely flying back at 4:15 pm on Sunday.
  17. Honestly, the elevator ride is cool. We waited in a 45 minute line to go the tip top. We did have champagne up there, but that was all. Did it once on one trip to Paris in 2016 with my mom. I never went up it before or after. Better to see it in the shots.
  18. Ummm, no. Find the elevator and wait. Over 180 big, fucing stairs. No thanks.
  19. So do you also hold fans of sports teams to that criteria? If so, you should fucking hate the Yankees.
  20. In Paris, skip going to the top of the Eiffel Tower. Tickets are almost impossible to get (hearing lots of horror stories), plus, the pictures you take, don't you wan the tower in them? Last time we were there, we did a private boat tour on the Seine. It involved copious amounts of Champagne, a cute captain, and a lot of fun. I highly recommend doing this vs. the big tourist boats. This is who we used (https://www.airbnb.com/experiences/194776?adults=1&checkin=&checkout=&children=0&infants=0&pets=0&currentTab=all_tab&federatedSearchId=&searchId=&source=wishlist) While I think the Louvre and the Musee d'Orsay are musts, they eat up a lot of time. Buying tickets in advance helps. Also, try and plot your route through to hit the highlights. Pro tip, the Mona Lisa is really small, and there are much better paintings in the main gallery leading to this small one where she sits. I love Delacroix's Liberty Leading the People, the Coronation of Josephine by Jacques Louis-David, and of course both the Venus de Milo and the Nike of Samothrace. If impressionists are more your bag, the Musee d'Orsay is outstanding, but same advice. Pick what you want to see and plan your route. You can do both in one day if you plan well. Pick one for the AM, one for the afternoon, and do lunch at Les Deux Colombes (which is a bit of a long walk, but the view!). On shopping, Goyard no longer does appointments, so you have to queue. However, you can still get a deal there and in LV compared to the US. Not many other deals to be had (Hermes and Chanel do a good job of managing FX and arbitrage opportunities with their pricing). If you are more interested in vintage finds, let me know. I have been compiling a list of places. On restaurants, I loved MoSuke last time I was there. Mory Sacko has opened a new place as well (Lafayette's). Also, many people raved about Les Parisiens, which is also on my list for next trip. Those are my highlights in 5 minutes or less.
  21. I just saw some nice 2k business class flights from NYC to Paris. It really is a shame I have barred myself from a trip until I have been to three more countries (my rule was no visits to Paris until I have been to at least 10 new countries). I have been to 7 since making that rule, and will most likely knock the last three out this year.
