  1. Would add The Shootist to the list as the parallelism between the lead character and John Wayne is intriguing. Also WIld Bunch needs more Love.
  2. Athens >>> Norman. Athens Talent >>>>>>>>>>>> Norman Talent. Undefeated and all. He got a girlfriend at OU?
  3. Yep. it was totally a guess from the outside. Strategic deals can always raise the price point, especially if there are other suitors as you no doubt know. Also depends on strings/commitment to the buyer from the seller which in a people business like that is critical to value continuation/realization. BTW, ~6M Ebitda on 15M revenue is salty! congrats to those folks.
  4. Lots of ways to calculate materiality (revenue, assets, gross profit, net profit). Here's one way to look at it: materiality is generally between 5-10% net profit, 2015 CBS net income was 1.4B, so 140m could be argued immaterial, anything less than 70 would be immaterial. However, the news article on the acquisition does say the annual revenue of 247 sports was 15M. While MA multiple were high that year (12-15x in elevated industries) it's unlikely that 247 had 10+m in EBITDA. I would guess not more that 25% of Revenue(which is high), so think 3.75M max EBITDA at max MA rate (15) puts likely sale price high end likely at 56M. TLDR: CTJ and Enchubben are correct and price was likely well below 100M.
  5. Thanks CTJ; BTW, Only 6500 posts? As a long time reader that seldom posts, Its seems most things I stop down to read are things you posted, or topics you initiated. Would have guessed double that amount of posts. Quality over quantity! To add a little something here, my 21 year old son (played at SLC ahead of QE) has been around QE a bit this month - said he's "chill, ready to ball" My old man translator thinks that's a good thing.
  6. Not sure what's more fucked up in that picture. Hot dog tacos or the Corona Premier. I suspect hot dog tacos taste like crap. I know Corona Premier is piss.
  7. Who knew the Sherminator was a real person.
  8. Was at this game. First game of the year. 6:30 place was empty. At 8:30 still pretty light. Couple Observations as a casual Mavs fan: Both teams were ice cold most of the game. it was bad basketball from a shooting, scheme, effort and generally looked like two teams who were pretty disinterested. The crowd was crap. Not just the 50% capacity, but zero energy. The only time they got into it was when they had 4th quarter chick fil a contest to win a sandwich on two missed free throws (which they did) Luka whines every fing time. Bunch of calls he didn't get, and my buddies and i were like "maybe he shouldn't bitch at the refs from the tip". BTW, on first shot (which he made) - he turned and start bitching at the ref. FIRST SHOT. The Mavs offense turned into I hope Luka gets hot in 4th. (Didn't this get previous coach fired?) He also passed up several up close shots to kick outside when it looked open - think he's trying to get the rest of these guys to hit a shot, but as noted above. Brutal 3 point shooting all night. Harden is an embarrassment to the league. He makes Soccer Flops look like assaults. At least 5 phantom flops in the game. Watching him flop and Luka whine the entire game is a cancer on the NBA Not that Cuban needs the money, but I won't spend another dime on going to watch this team.
  9. The thought that Riley has some mentor/close relationship with QE is suspect. QE basically pulled the rug out from what was suppose to be a SLC revenge tour back to the State finals with his late departure to Ohio State. Fortunately the unknown and little experienced backup turned out pretty good, but locals don't think Riley was too thrilled.
  10. This is the money statement. The endowment allows for breadth/non-rev sports. Corporate NIL dollars - real corporations, not Local Pawn Shop - is what creates massive personal brand monetization for the elite, and helps create lifetime brand revenue for those individuals, and with a real, professionally managed org in the middle not uncles, and pseudo agents taking 50% cuts, the corporate marketing $$ will jump in.
  11. Whole team including the coaches should have to read this article and then look in the mirror: https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/32644138/the-2001-miami-hurricanes-one-college-football-greatest-teams-ever
  12. Lot of google searching on that title, however both the translation and the cultural embrace of ritual suicide by disembowelment fit well here.
  13. 1) Top tier players want to play in NFL They want either a convincing argument why joining school X is going to make that possible through a) track record of school/coaching stuff creating draft success or b) exposure/playing time to demonstrate that they are in fact as good as they think they are. Once they believe the #1 can be addressed, then they'd like to: 2) get paid 3) get laid 4) win a championship 2,3,4 are interchangeable based on individual, situation, etc. but #1 is the driver- we have too many recruits that think their path on #1 is "b" (wait till they see me - I'm better than what's there), versus "a", If I bust my ass this school will get me into the NFL. TLDR; our recruits think they are the man when they arrive vs. expecting to compete with the best of the best to become the man - because that's become our selling point.
  14. I'm in the 'can't fire the staff" version of this argument, but.......The game day coaching of this staff is as bad as anything Chuck threw out there. Zero effective adjustments during the entire year. Zero. This same talent was competitive on defense last year, The offense was competitive. Not great but competed four quarters. When we pin the other team back on the 1/2 yard line and everyone in the stadium knows they are going to run the ball to get some room, we line up in a three man line with deep safeties - ie our base defense, like they are starting at the 25. That's lack of game day coaching. When its third and 7 and entire 5 DB bail beyond the first down marker, that's a coaching call. Leaving your 2nd string qb in when he clearly isn't pulling the trigger despite time to make three reads and then running around like a chicken with head cut off - that's coaching. Either put Casey back in, or throw one of your walk-ons in there and pull your elite running back. Now Casey is burned, Card is burned, BR is injured, and our pet's heads have all fallen off. Situational coaching of this staff is junior high level.
  15. That sucks. There was nothing like it - including the search for someone to give you their empty if Sarah didn't see you come in, cause you weren't getting a beer without an empty.
  16. Pos for this delightful combination of word sophistication and alliteration.
  17. WTF is this? Do you own a car? If you don't drive it for a week, would you allow some random person who demanded access to use it? I suppose they could create a VRBO model for those seat owners to resell just the seat (and not access to club) but that would take effort and create no new revenue for the University so aint gonna happen. If you are implying that they should just eminent domain those seats back you must be from communist Russia, were educated at ATM or both.
  18. Outlier? I don't think you understand how football works. Other than AL how good has any other team been? Oklahoma has been good in our little pond. who else? We have 1 national championship and 1 national champ game appearance since the turn of the century. Tell me the 25 teams better than that. yeah we've sucked since 2010, so have a ton of other teams. Fuck, Georgia hasn't won dick in forever. Aggie? They have sucked ass for almost 100 years. Fuck you.
  19. What kind of Aggy, Pussy Shit is this? Fuck the SEC. We will be great at football again. It may not be this coach, but we have way too many advantages not to excel as we always have. Fuck this guy.
  20. Grew up in the valley myself. The roundup in Pharr was the first mexican food restaurant I remember going to - makes good mexican food hard to find.
  21. #3 went to school there. It's awesome, early Austin 80s vibe. Four points of warning: 1) the drive from Denver airport is like Houston construction bad, 2) Local mexican food is terrible, 3) real estate is pricey, and 4) their football team is the suck.
  22. Sark is a genius game planner, can hide lots of warts PK has yet to prove ability to show a genius defensive approach or adjust in-game Not blitzing a rookie qb in first game action was a crime against football gods Sark is yet to prove he's a genius in-game adjuster or his all-gas mentality can't overcome its desire to chase the cheese when defense is daring the long ball and see if your O-line can hold; or both Our O-line stubbornness after Ark was wrong Heading into the game, we were super worried about PK's 3 man defensive fronts esp with OU holding addiction and a back-end that can't seem to play the ball and we were correct. Getting to the fair at 8:00am is still required for 11:00am kick Walking from the fair to Deep Ellum to hang at those bars while Uber sorts itself out is a good plan Old Fair coupons are still good even though they raised the price per coupon
  23. In hindsight, I should have had 5 Bloodies to start the day...
