  1. So now what? Well first I would respectfully submit that you actually don’t know your enemy. You think you do, and you’ve distilled your assumed knowledge into pithy sound bytes that make you feel as if you know what’s going on and have a firm grip and handle on the complexities and dynamics, with your fun reprises; “cruelty is the point”, “we are doomed”, “I’m on the ledge drinking tequila” and what have you’s. But the reality is that you don’t seem to understand root causes or any fundamental brokenness that informs the behavior and symptoms that are easy for you to glom to because you haven’t really the time or inclination to care. And I understand that. The hillbilly elegy people have burned any sympathy or credit to care about their plight. But you don’t understand. If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat.
  2. Mostly this episode did suck, but I thought the Ted & Doc scenes were good and enjoyed seeing glimpses of Ted's personality that isn't rapid fire folkisms but actual spurts of vulnerability and anger. I also actually kinda like the dark turn that Nate is taking. Some commentary there on the intersection between: being a fragile, insecure incel + verbal abuse/trauma from a crappy father + ego/narcissism of social media (and reading your own press; maybe some unintentional meta commentary on this show?) = a very ugly, paranoid, sad person. I love how he is also delusional and tries to claim that he didn't say wonder kid but pronounced it wrong despite video evidence, it really makes that character arc believable.
  3. Yea, probably a result of buying a cheap smaller one last summer when there were shortages. Good to know there are good electric ones, I probably should look into getting a better one then.
  4. Sure many do, but I think it cuts both ways and lot of people get insulated or are born into areas and don't necessarily know this. Especially BIPOCs and other urban-oriented minorities (e.g. Asians, South Asians, Middle Easterners, East and West Africans, etc.) I'm glad you are aware though, it's probably helpful!
  5. 1) Recycle (though not sure that it's real and not just dumping it in Malaysian land fills) 2) Try to use the water filter from the fridge as much as possible and not go through as much single serving waters. Cut back on the ozarka waters that way, but still buy the smart water/electrolyte waters in personal bottles every two weeks. 3) Electric lawn mower, etc. This has been the suckiest because the batteries suck and and the lawn mower is lame and sucks. 4) Spent a ton of money on energy efficient, triple pane windows or whatever in every room in the house including the sun room. Seriously it was way more than you'd think-- like a new car purchase. 5) Thought about solar, but haven't pulled the trigger on that yet 6) Drive two gas guzzlers now, but for our third vehicle we are planning to buy next spring (transitioning a 2017 pick up that's paid off to more of a work truck and keep it for a kid who is about to be driving) I paid a $100 to be on the list to buy a Ford eLightning Truck or whatever. So thinking about that, at least. 7) Shop at Whole Foods and Sprouts for fruits and veggies, which is kinda like going to a Farmer's market instead of a Target or something like that, right? The experience feels like it, at least, from what I imagine being at a Farmer's Market would be like.
  6. Just got back from a round trip tour of semi-West Texas; Abiliene -> Sweetwater -> Midland and back, in and around a bunch of small towns, where I was visiting friends and family via Dove Hunting 2021, and I think it would help those whose only exposure in Texas is in Austin or Houston in the loop or Dallas (minus the northern, prosperous suburbs), to see how a decent size contingent of Texans live, think and act. It might be helpful and informative, is all I'm saying.
  7. Also what about alternate timelines that haven’t been pruned and those branches of variants who had abortions? Can we sue all those too?
  8. It’s like one of those class action lawsuits where everyone gets a piece of the millions of dollars, so like $1.13 each.
  9. Tell us you are paid to carry the water for the Democrat party and establishment without telling us.
  10. Peppa the Pig trolling hilarity aside: Donda has some poor man’s Life of Pablo vibes, but ultimately the problem here seems to be the album is too long, too scattered and not really any anchor, certified bops. Not even really anything that interesting being communicated, even from Jay Electronica, outside of the beats and production which is amazing. But that’s not enough— it’s like a film winning awards for cinematography but the story and acting was mediocre. You can’t just keep building award winning set pieces or choreography but the play or musical sucks. Sad to say, with all that fashion money and those billions, not sure if Kanye has another classic/great album left in him. Jesus is King was amazing though.

  12. Yea I saw that. — OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma won court approval for a $4.5 billion bankruptcy settlement that shields its Sackler family owners from future lawsuits over their role in the opioid epidemic.
  13. Oh wow that is hilarious-- it actually is pretty close to her voice!
  14. Just binged this on a couple of long flights and in some hotel downtime this week-- was really good and from reading this entire 7 page thread, I get the feeling that binging it versus watching it and waiting for the next ep week over week was way better and made the story make more sense. Also, it made the finale way better, compared to a lot of the initial reviews and comments and all the dialogue was not a let down or disappointment, but was actually just as compelling and interesting than a bunch of fighting and action. Lastly the actor who played Kang was amazing and stole the show and I thought was awesome. Surprised to hear folks didn't like him.
  15. I think Tesla moved it's HQ to Austin in an accounting trick/tax loophole when Elon moved to Austin (or will be doing this soon); I know for a fact Oracle did this. Also @Lobo not knowing JCP was HQ'ed in Texas, at your age and your alleged business acumen in the state, seems off brand and out of character, as you seem to know a lot of off-kilter factoids and obscure references.
  16. Your avatar does look like a bit like George Saunders.
  17. Kanye's 10th album, 27 songs...and no thread about it!? Am I the only Kanye fan left?
  18. THIS is the bt we need. It's not the bt we deserve, but the one we need to hear from. I'm here for it!
  19. That's a fun spin on the Male, Pale and Yale original idiom-- did that get traction to be more "Joe Biden Six Pack" or maybe because we are in the South? I'd vote for MM.
  20. Yes, that is all true and good as well. and Joe Rogan doing all that bolded, I agree, seems very on brand.
  21. “Because everything is awful, he will of course recover fully…” could also be restated as “because he’s generally right, that otherwise more or less healthy and younger, fit people don’t have much to worry about statistically speaking from covid-19 infections so, he will of course recover fully…” There is always a chance though that things take a bad turn for the unvaxxed though.
  22. Your personal anecdote, while no doubt interesting to a few people, does not a corroboration make.
  23. Could have saved you a thousand words had you just read the last few posts. He sold out and made the trade off of less of a platform/exposure for retirement money. It happens. Probably similar to the Howard Stern and Sirius thing or Longhorn Network lol.
  24. According to an investigation by The Verge, using secondary metrics, like how much of a promotional boost Rogan gave his guests, The Verge found that Rogan’s influence has diminished since he went to frolic in Spotify’s walled garden. Some of the evidence: Before the Spotify move, Rogan’s smaller guests could expect to add 4,000 Twitter followers/week after appearing on the show. Since he went to Spotify, that number has dropped to 2,000. Rogan’s YouTube channel, which used to post full pod episodes but hasn’t since the switch, is growing more slowly. Google searches for Rogan are down this year from 2020. There are numerous confounding variables that could help explain a dip in enthusiasm for the podcast. But as Spotify tries to bring on more high-profile podcasts to its platform (like it just did with Call Her Daddy), podcasters might increasingly question whether Spotify’s $$$ is worth limiting their exposure on other platforms.
  25. That’s a fair and honest opinion, and perhaps what you say is a contributing or indirect factor, but from what I understand it’s pretty well documented that it’s the Spotify exclusivity thing that has created a trade-off.
