  1. Dedicated thread in Food & Travel
  2. Not coming to Texas, but Big Boy is leaving tomorrow to head to Omaha for the CWS. So hopefully if the Horns make it, go check out some Big Iron. Video from a test run yesterday:
  3. Jump to about 2:30, pretty sure Bill and Boebert's mom crossed paths at some point
  4. Had a great time at East Bell Taphouse today, manager there used to be a bartender at Texas Beer Co. in Taylor, hired my band to play a "polka brunch" today. Not a big crowd, but very appreciative, and the first one they've had, we'll be back at some point. Had an open tab for the band, was a little worried at the end, ala the Blues Brothers at the Country Bunker... We definitely equaled our pay with the bar tab.
  5. his friends call him Kenny, but he got no friends
  6. No real confirmation, so take with a grain of salt, but wouldn't be surprised at all
  7. And yes I know I am derailing the thread, but can we just maybe not think about this impotent, twig-legged mother fucker for a few minutes. And I'm not making fun of no cripples (see the Monkees "Head" for reference), as Gordie Lachance said, "No Ace, just you..." (my pop culture references come out when I get drunk, back to your regularly scheduled programming)
  8. I'm not QUITE as old as Armybrat (although I do live in his wife's home town of Taylor, maybe that has something to do with it), but I do miss a simpler time with simple technology and shitty local commercials....
  9. Should have know I could search one of those Austin-centric facebook groups and find it... it was Janet Stockard
  10. OK I'm a bit buzzed, but don't THINK I'm going crazy, this is for the oldsters. Back in the 80's 90's could have been early 2000s, there was another female lawyer here in Austin, she was blonde, kind of a perm hairstyle and wore what I can only describe as a Boy George hat, or a pork pie hat I guess. I cannot remember her name to save my life (or bail me out), anybody remember her or is this just a Mandela effect thing going on....
  11. Just can't help himself, we already knew about the last guy (Datwyler) wanting no part of it...
  12. https://www.kvue.com/article/news/local/austin-radio-network-shut-down/269-6303f289-7f96-404c-b316-467966ecd882 property owner locked them out
  13. He would have to first believe that God or Jesus are not subservient and beneath him. Not happening. He gets better ratings than God and Jesus was loser that died. He likes messiahs that don't get caught.
  14. Ah yes, so the guy who was on terrestrial radio (the whole time lamenting the death of print media), then left radio to do a streaming show run by (checks notes) print media (and all the while lamenting the death of terrestrial radio), then left to do a podcast on a start up company that lasted all of 6 months or so, then started his own podcast that maybe 20 people listen to, has gone back to.... terrestrial radio. How did we not see that coming?
  15. Until a few years ago it would have been a MAD Magazine from 1976 (Jaws), but I sold all those off. Now it's a Marvel Star Wars Special Edition #2 (my brother stole #1) bought for the astronomical sum of $0.88 at the Winn's in Hempstead in 1977.
  16. A couple more I just remembered Ringo-Early 1970 (his old mates) Tom Petty & the Heartbraekers-Swingin' (Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Sammy Davis) Def Leppard-Rocket (Beatles, Elton, Bowie, etc...) Fountains of Wayne-Supercollider (Pink Floyd) which makes me kick myself that I forgot two of the most obvious songs written about another musician... Shine On You Crazy Diamond Wish You Were Here (and could also add Brain Damage and Nobody's Home, all for Syd, and of course Vera-Vera Lynn) and I guess we can just throw in the entire Rumours album as well John Mellencamp-ROCK in the USA There was Frankie Lyman, Bobby Fuller, Mitch Ryder (They were rockin') Jackie Wilson-Shangra-Las-Young Rascals (They were rockin') Spotlight on Martha Reeves Let's don't forget James Brown
  17. Eagles-Hotel California (Steely Dan), as payback for Steely Dan-Everything You Did (Eagles) Grand Funk Railroad-An American Band (Freddie King) ELO - Shagri-la (Beatles, and "Hey Jude") Billy Joe Shaver-Tramp on Your Street (Hank Williams) Chuck Berry-Roll Over Beethoven A couple more about John Lennon: Paul McCartney-Here Today, Elton John-Empty Garden John Lennon-How Do You Sleep (Paul McCartney) Bruce Springsteen-Thunder Road (Roy Orbison) Steely Dan-FM (Elvis) REM-Man on the Moon (Mott the Hoople, Elvis) Commodores-Nightshift (Marvin Gaye) The Who-The Seeker (Dylan, Beatles) A couple of "list songs": Tex Ritter-Hillbilly Heaven; George Jones-Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes Neil Young-My My, Hey Hey (Johnny Rotten) as in the one song above, Barclay James Harvest-Titles (the lyrics are all Beatles song titles/lyrics), actually a pretty cool song, I really dig it (this video cannot be more 70's, with that All the Young Dudes opening...)
  18. American Trilogy ftmfw (and search out the “Desert Storm” bootleg, Evvis and dotard so similar it’s scary, just the rants…)
