  1. I didn’t think 1917 was boring but defending a movie‘s boringness because the subject matter isn’t action packed is stupid. Plenty of great movies have been made about unexciting things, including some of the best from the last decade (The Social Network, The Big Short, The Martian, Boyhood).
  2. Saw it at Alamo this afternoon and thought it was really good. It dragged a bit at times but as someone who went through divorce recently, it was a pretty accurate depiction IMO. I was a little worried going to see it having been divorced so recently but I was mostly ok until the scene where the kid finds the letter.
  3. He's only the third NBA MVP ever to die and the first to die so tragically young (Moses died at 60, Wilt at 63). So while I don't see any need to change the logo here, it's not hard to see why others might feel differently.
  4. Because Americans have such a long history of hyping up foreign films?
  5. It's dumb and ridiculous and thoroughly enjoyable just like you'd expect if you enjoyed the first two. It's a step below 2 but on par with 1.
  6. I saw it today and largely agree with this. Worse than pointless, the celeb cameos actually took me a bit of it. I’m curious how it would hold up to a rewatch once the novelty of the cinematography wears off. I was surprised to see someone call it boring. This is the first time since Road to Perdition that I haven’t been incredibly bored during a Sam Mendes movie.
  7. According to Landomatic, they should get rid of division champ spots and only have wildcard spots.
  8. I agree, that was absolutely outrageous. Which is what makes it all the more puzzling a narrative choice to invest a story that places the blame for the leak partly on a honeypot reporter than purely on the FBI where it belongs.
  9. You’re right. Unlike the journalists depicted by the film, who reported true information, the film is actually defamatory, and intentionally so. The movie is actually far, far worse than what it’s railing against.
  10. Saw it on Christmas and thought it was very good. Gerwig and Ronan are as good as pretty much anyone right now. The rest of the cast was great as well.
  11. What does that have to do with Clint Eastwood being a hypocrite piece of shit?
  12. What better way to make that point than by defaming a dead woman. A dead woman whose reporting about Jewell was found to be true by a court of law.
  13. Westlake advanced to the state championship in 1994 thanks to winning on penetrations in the semifinals, a 26-26 tie to Galveston Ball.
  14. There’s only a right to revolution if you win. Otherwise it’s just treason.
  15. That's not at all what the Constitution says about why Congress has the power to levy taxes. Try again. Hint, check out Article I, Section 8. And of course, you're for some reason only discussing federal taxation while there are other taxing entities that are not at all limited by Article I but for being prohibited from taxing imports or exports.
  16. I call it being a citizen of a constitutional republic, through which we have consented to sacrifice certain liberties. If you think too many of those liberties are being sacrified, there are mechanism by which to change that if you can convince a critical mass of fellow citizens to agree with you. Or you can always opt to try and live elsewhere if you can't reach such a consensus and you find the situation that abhorrent.
  17. How exactly is government going to have a role in protecting property rights without taxation to fund said government?
  18. I think it would bother me less if she had actually done something to allow her to acquire the land but that she just inherited the shopping center and then drove out 50-year tenants really sucked.
  19. For being a generally progressive state, Washington is the most regressive tax system in the country, even moreso than Texas.
  20. I’m not sure if they did it in 1990/1994/1996 but they’ve done that same formation in the state title game at least since the 2000 Midland Lee game. You’d think the band/hyline directors would want to put their own stamp on things but Hyline has also done that exact same Santa hats “sleigh ride” routine every playoff game for at least 20 years.
  21. Early 2000s. When the Tarrytown one closed, they opened one in Westlake but it lasted less than a year. The others had closed a while back.
  22. Ralph Moreland's granddaughter has a food truck called Lono's Southern Cooking and Holiday House burgers are on the menu. Gonna have to check this out next week. https://www.facebook.com/lonosketocooking/
  23. So you think the market will support $4.50 gas in Phoenix but gas companies are just feeling charitable?
  24. Which amounts to less than 25% of that $1.75 difference
