  1. Why is it ridiculous? The punishment for a Class C misdemeanor is a fine not to exceed $500. Arresting and jailing someone for an offense that is not even punishable by jail time is absurd. That APD is much more likely to arrest rather than cite when the person is black instead of white is just another reason to avoid such discretionary arrests.
  2. They aren’t cop movies anymore but 3 of the 8 highest grossing movies last year were action comedies (Jumanji, Guardians 2, Ragnarok).
  3. All forensic science is novel and potentially inadmissible at the outset. Someone has to be the canary in the coal mine. In this instance, nothing was actually lost by using this method because the more established method didn’t help the state’s case.
  4. But the problem was the testing so the “types of evidence” are the same in this instance.
  5. It’s tough to justify funding a comedy that will gross $40m when you can churn out a dogshit Transformers movie that will make $200m in China.
  6. Dumb and shortsighted is a policy argument, not a constitutional one.
  7. It’s a rough period for comedies so the funniest is probably Deadpool. For pure comedies, funniest is probably Bad Moms or Blockers. The best movie that falls under the comedy umbrella, but not necessarily the straight-up funniest, is The Big Sick.
  8. The age of majority is 19 in Alabama (and Nebraska). 21 in Mississippi. 18 everywhere else.
  9. I think a great case could be made for Virginia. Bernie was much less popular than Hillary among black Democrats and in the DC suburbs.
  10. Technically she was robbing a Russian oligarch and an insurance company, not the museum. I didn’t think it was bad but it wasn’t great either. The chemistry definitely wasn’t there. I actually didn’t mind Bullock but thought Blanchett was dead weight. Hathaway was perfection and Paulson and Bonham-Carter were really good as well.
  11. Primaries have too few superdelegates, not too many. We’d be better off if we got rid of voting in primaries altogether and just let parties put up whomever they want.
  12. And those forms can be obtained by going to a port of entry and telling an agent you are seeking asylum.
  13. You don’t need a visa to apply for asylum at a port of entry.
  14. They’re not overlooking it. They just don’t give a shit because they’re hateful monsters.
  15. It’s inhumane that their parents sought asylum through a legal process?
  16. Yes. I can’t even comprehend how it’s controversial that migration is a fundamental human right.
  17. Also Aledmys Diaz last year and Yasiel Puig a year or two before that IIRC.
  18. Residential burglary carries a higher penalty. I think the reasoning is that a residential burglary has a higher probability of resulting in physical harm to a person (assault, rape, murder) while commercial burglary is more typically going to be a pure property crime.
  19. Didn’t go to UT but loved going to Guy Forsyth’s Sunday night residency at Antone’s in high school.
  20. Fair point. Winning 11 out of 17 times is damn impressive regardless.
  21. So Augie would be a worse coach if the last 20 years of career were identical but occurred at Fullerton instead of Texas? That's a fairly bizarre calculus.
  22. Yeah, Dedeaux's titles are gaudy but it's pretty glaring how he only made it to Omaha once after the tournament changed to a regional format in 1975 and USC suddenly had to do more than just beat Cal State LA or Occidental or Portland in a three-game series to win District 8.
