  1. This. Being evasive about specific cases is pretty standard fair for confirmation hearings. The bigger problem is she's just outrageously unqualified.
  2. Demand is not the general demand for buying sex regardless of particulars. Demand is dictated by the particular market circumstances.
  3. IIRC, he also went to school through a masters with the government footing the bill through athletic scholarships and GI bill.
  4. Making it more difficult for Johns to find workers, see pictures, read reviews, vet workers to ensure they aren’t cops, etc., will reduce demand. Making it more difficult for workers to advertise and vet Johns to ensure they aren’t cops or violent or anything will reduce supply. It will not eliminate supply or demand but it will reduce sex trafficking and prostitution more than using those websites to bust Johns or workers will, which was all I said. I know a number of sex workers. My bias is that they be able to do their job as safely and successfully as practicable. Websites shutting down due to SESTA/FOSTA and the backpage seizure make their jobs more dangerous and less profitable. Im not in favor of these laws or actions.
  5. I'm less concerned with whether its supported by Britain and France and more concerned with whether its authorized by Congress. You know, the branch of government tasked with deciding whether to get involved in offensive military actions.
  6. Someone who campaigned for Ag Commisioner by touting his evangelical bonafides is a piece of shit? This is my shocked face.
  7. Looks like it was a Title VII opinion which follows the recent circuit opinions. I would agree that the original intent of Title VII was probably not to cover transgender discrimination but it seems pretty logical that transgender discrimination is discrimination based on sex.
  8. I think his point was she wasn’t far enough to the right to get one of Bush Jr.’s nominations. She was certainly more qualified than Elrod or Haynes and less of a piece of human excrement than Clement or Owen.
  9. Did she say gays and transgenders are protected classes under the Fourteenth Amendment or that discrimination against gays and transgenders is sex discrimination under the Civil Rights Act?
  10. Louisiana and Indiana launched large-scale voucher programs and students performed worse.
  11. Special Counsel can investigate tertiary issues in order to obtain cooperation from key witnesses.
  12. Yup. And I would imagine federal judges are just as uncomfortable with it so whatever was in the warrant application must have been pretty compelling.
  13. Fair enough (although comparing Chapel Hill to Grapevine or Sugar Land makes no sense). I wouldn’t move anywhere smaller than those. I don’t see myself going anywhere due to a combination of career, family, and inertia but Austin is in a shitty place now size wise. I’d rather either be in the 100-300k college town range or be in an urban environment where I can get rid of my car (Chicago, NYC, SF, etc.)
  14. A pair of douchebags at Chick-fil-a today
  15. Not in Texas but I would move to smaller college town elsewhere (Boulder, Madison, Charlottesville, Chapel Hill, Bloomington, Columbia, Lawrence, Eugene, etc.).
  16. Yup. It's an extremely bad deal for independent sex workers. it both makes it harder to get clients and makes it harder to verify whether its safe to see clients. I know a couple of girls who pretty much 100% relied on eccie to get clients and to vet guys with other girls.
  17. Cubs pushed the game one hour to 2:20 to allow more time to prep the field
  18. For decades, schools had the luxury of a monopoly on the best and brightest female college graduates in the country. Fortunately the rest of the labor market is not so overtly sexist anymore and such a monopoly no longer exists. Problem is, without a monopoly of that labor, the cost of employing the same caliber of teachers has gone up significantly. Unfortunately, teacher wages have remained flat for basically that entire time. You’re like Tahoe’s great great granddaddy in Hazel Green, AL complaining that the costs of operating his plantation have gone up since 1865 and his revenues haven’t kept pace.
  19. Harper is the most scrutinized player in baseball now that ARod is retired.
  20. The average college graduate will receive social security. And you continue to refer to tenure despite having already been told there’s no such thing. And while the time off doesn’t come in large chunks like it does for teachers, my friends who are teachers work as many if not more hours in a year than my full-time employees.
  21. This study defined sex trafficking as,
  22. This presupposes that the goal should be for teachers to be the quality of an average college graduate.
  23. Arrieta seems about as likely as Kapler to be the Phillies manager by the all star break.
  24. I love it but I think a lot of that is nostalgia and comfort. I don’t think I’d be near as high on it if I hadn’t been going there since I was a toddler.
