Their QB made the easy plays we presented to him. He wasn't good, we just never really made him uncomfortable or challenged him to make plays downfield.
Other teams regularly challenge Casey to make plays downfield with success, we played soft coverage and gave up easy short completions. That doesn't account for the front getting pushed around by Kansas though. Bad fucking marriage and the players don't wanna play in it.
He was good. We can shit on our own team but give credit where credits due.
Remember that 3rd down throw to Worthy us down 7 in the 4th? The one we didn’t connect on and the drive ended. You still gotta convert the easy ones. -
No. This is unacceptable. He was never in duress and we didn’t scheme against the option and screen game Kansas was running. We allowed him to over-perform because the defense was out of position and failing to put any fucking effort into the game. There’s only about 2 people on that side of the ball that give a shit.
What you are saying may be true, but he was damn good. That doesn’t mean he will ever be again.
He had timely runs. Completed 70% which included a drop on a very nice downfield throw. The 3rd down thrown to convert on their final TD in regulation was a very good play.
In regulation the only had 1 drive with no 3rd down conversions. That same drive only had runs. Every other drive required the QB to make a play or two. In spite of our inadequacies, he did. -
Bijan was tackled 3 yards behind the line by 2-3 dudes if I recall on his injury that’s where my comment is directed too. Brooks was wrecking shop downfield
It was a run for a loss but think it was one dude. -
Our problems start on the line as they are too light in running situations. Seeing Jett Bush or Ovie paired opposite a smallish Ray Thornton meant that they have no chance. What am I missing?
Jett Bush and Ovie are pass rush specialists and should only play in obvious passing situations. Which was about 6 plays in the god forsaken game.
We are small, but that wasn’t really the issue in this game. They had 17 3rd downs. We only had 11. They converted 11, us 7. That’s not to say our run D was good. But we lost because we couldn’t stop 3rd down. And the passing game.
Every 3rd down they had was an attempted pass except the Qb sneak. First one of the game was a QB scramble. Some were 3rd and short; some were 3rd and long. We stopped them because they didn’t complete it on 3rd. (Not sure in overtime as the game play by play was not showing)
Their QB was damn good and was the difference in the game. -
I agree with this and Dylan Haines may have been the worst player I have seen play for the Horns in the last 35 years. That is what blows my mind. We have a guy starting in the secondary that is so much worse than the worst player this team has fielded in the last 35 years. My question for those of you that know the whole roster of this team. Are there better players behind Schooler that should be playing but PK won’t let them? Same question for Brock. The reason we get gashed by the run is because I haven’t seen a D lineman on this team get off a block all year and Brock gets washed out by anyone close to him that comes to block him. Not saying I am a fan of PK as I really don’t know that much about him but I don’t see scheme issues like I did with Orlando or Diaz. We are not blitzing a safety 20 yards off the line of scrimmage or shit like that. I see our players in position to fill a hole and they are not physically capable of doing it and making the tackle. I see guys missing tackles because they aren’t fast and strong enough to get the right angle or bring the guy down.
I guess I am one of the few on this board that is willing to give Sark and PK a pass right now BUT if Brock is starting next year then they should fire all of them after the first loss. That shows me the coaches aren’t capable of brining in any talent if we still have guys like that starting.
Do you realize your mental limitations?
Haines isn’t the worst player of the last 35 years. Probably not even close.
And Schooler is probably significantly more talented than Haines. Has played snaps on both sides of the ball at two major colleges. You can’t pull that off without some talent. His brother is a legit LB at two major colleges, which might lead one to believe there’s some talent in the family.
Production or the lack thereof is totally different than lack of talent. He didn’t play DB last year. He’s in a new scheme. He has double digit tackles in the last two games. He didn’t get the majority of snaps in either Arkansas or OU. He’s playing faster but who knows why.
And on two point conversion who knows whether that’s his responsibility. What I can tell you there’s one other player that didn’t do Jack and could have made the play and another was somewhat slow to react then may have chosen poorly. -
The question is not why Card got to play but why did we run him out for the two minute offense.
It was a reasonable decision to get him some game time. I’d think at this time he’s done here now. Any goals for the season were shot so you need to see where you stand at the most critical position. So you could even argue my first statement is why you put him in for the two minute offense.
Part of the equation is that Casey hasn’t been consistent in the 4 game losing streak.
It’s really quite amazing how as a team we can’t put it together at the same time. -
In fairness the guy that caused us to have to turn to Schooler to start was fired. Now I don't know what you are watching, but Schooler is one of the few guys on defense that is giving everything he has. I don't question his want to or effort. He's the least of the issues for me on defense.
People are dipshits. There’s really no point in singling out any defender. None of them are really doing their job. But you’re right Schooler has been playing hard the last two weeks. I do question why the noticeable increase in effort though compared to the first 8 games. Jerrin T has actually played better the last two weeks too. -
Had the DL recorded 3 sacks total this season? I don’t even remember one.
16 total. 4 of those in game 1.
Overshown, Ovie, Murphy and Collins each have 2.
Davis 1.5. Thornton, Coburn and Bush 1 each.
Ojomo, Sweat, Sorrell, Jones, Broughton total 0.
Cook and Harris have 1. Brockermeyer, Adimora, Schooler 0.5.
That’s good distribution. Keep ‘em guessing as to who will hit the QB.-

Really not sure how you’d ever choose. Schooler is 3rd on the team in sacks over the past 4 weeks. Foster is leading the in INTs the last 5 weeks and the season.

Bonds and Clemens should be in.
If you took some uppers to be game ready, that’s a performance enhancing drug. Maybe even illegal. My guess is many of those old timers would have taken the juice if readily available.
If baseball didn’t give a damn, why should the players? -

How sure are we Sam would do well in this scheme? How do we know he would be healthy behind this offensive line?
Sam got hit harder and more often every single year here. This year our QBs haven’t taken particularly hard hits. Thompson has had some awkward falls while about to be hit. Most of the tough hits on Sam were running the ball so you cut much of that out you cut out many of the riskier.
The Colts got rid of two guys with more experience at the NFL level who more physically fit the profile to keep Sam. I’d venture that scheme is somewhat similar to this one.
That said it only takes one. -
Absolutely not. #1 problem with the offense is the o-line.
Nope.
QB.
I’ve gone back and watched much of the BU game. Three negatives/no gain runs. None due to the Oline missing a block. The TE was late coming off the double. This potentially could have been the OT, but the TE reacted and the tackle was covered then engaged. One was the corner blitz. One on one tackle. Another was the damn safety in the backfield. No one to account for him.
Pass pro pretty solid. Sometimes it’s one free or semi-free rusher. And sometimes it’s the RB not doing the job. That was the case versus OSU too.
Versus BU, there was a gimme 6 right down the middle, but we threw wide to Moore into double coverage. Tv didn’t show that on replay so unless they replayed it later you gimps watching TV never saw it. That screen attempt versus BU on the last drive. That’s on the QB. Give ground to get a half second more.
The only shitshow pass pro was certain series in the 2nd half versus OU. At least with Thompson. Now we do like to completely whiff too often, but that’s not enough to make a QB skiddish. He’s taken very few big hits.
I think it was two of the first three series vs ISU that ended with a throw in the dirt. Plenty o time to make a play. Missed a wide open Worthy for 6. Intentional grounding cause the QB wouldn’t throw it then rolls right into traffic.
That said we have many issues. QB touches the ball every play. Guys are open. A lot. Not just receivers either. Great QB play can overcome inadequacy elsewhere.-

Have a question.
Who recorded Augies rant? Why was that ok but this not?
I’d have to know all the details before making judgment on the recording person. Or at least enough certainties of it. -
If he wanted to bad mouth a player he could just refer the coach to Surly...
But then they’d all stick with the team cause nobody would want em. -
I’d just like t point out how badass our run blocking is compared to WVU (vs OSU).
They ended up with positive rush yards but were negative into the 2nd half. But sacks are figured in so maybe our pass blocking excels. -
MSU.
their defense is worse than ours in spite of a far weaker schedule against less talented teams. FEI has them lower than us. They give up more yards per game than us. Hell they even had a bye week before their only above average opponent. And it was a home game too. Not only are we playing better teams the timing of ours is far worse. -
Yes. Plenty. I’ve never seen him score five touchdowns against a Top 5 opponent.
Ok. Got it. Ron Dayne is the greatest college running back of all time. It’s the stats. -
Have you seen Kenneth Walker III carry the ball?
On Tv? Sure but not much. I did see that he averaged under 5 per carry last year.
Have you seen Bijan Robinson (not the III) carry the ball?
Is Walker more Ron Dayne or Cedric Benson good? Or Rickey Williams/Jamaal Charles good?
I’m not sure your point and whether it was sarcasm or whether you believe an RB on his own warrants Top 10 attention. But you have inspired me to watch more KW3. -
Psh, as soon as a team takes a loss they shouldn't, they're immediately "overrated."
In the specific case of Michigan State, they lost to Purdue who is likely a better team. They won by double digits. Put up 600 yards of offense. If you thought MSU was better, that’s due to being overrated.
Just came out yesterday that supposedly the refs took away a Michigan score they shouldn’t have. That and Miami are their two wins.
Four wins over the four worst Big 10 teams. Beat a 5-4 G5 team while giving up 500 yards of offense. Beat an FCS team that is last in their conference.
If they had played good teams to start the season, they likely lose and lose confidence. If they play Arkansas in game 2 at Pig, they’re likely taken to the woodshed. We’ve played 5 teams that are on par, if not better than, their best opponent.
I’m not sure where they rank compared to us, but their defense has been run over. And it’s unlikely they’ve played games in which the refs refuse to call offensive penalties.-

Something to think about when looking at Mel Tucker. Raiding the portal and getting some quick wins is very different than building a program.
Michigan State has been brought up multiple times.
Honestly, they haven’t done much to earn the pub. They beat an overrated Michigan at home while giving up 550 yards. They did handle a mediocre Miami team.
They’ve played the 4 worst teams in the Big 10. They’ve given up 500+ yards to Western Kentucky, almost 600 to Purdue. 550 to Michigan. Were outgained by almost 200 yards versus Nebraska.
We’d likely have the same record as them if we switched schedules.-

It was 50 degrees in Pittsburgh when the game was over and this motherfucker is dressed like Nanook of the North
What wasn’t run back on this replay was the dude did some damn roundhouse kick after the sack prior to going to stare at the sideline. The ref did encourage the bump, but Marsh was awfully close for no real reason. Like it or not, it was likely the culmination of his efforts that got the flag.
And this photo along with his inability to stick on a roster might say a little something about the dude. -
Sark in his PC said Roschon... and couldn't really come up with another. Also implied it was maybe tougher given he's not even a #1 starter.
I think there are some guys that are trying to lead by example - Bijan, Worthy, Casey/Hudson, but that's not what's needed now to get the other guys going.
What does it say when you don’t give your team leader more opportunities? It being tougher is probably more accurate. At the same time, he could be more involved.
I’ve said it elsewhere but Bijan is not wearing down due to touches but possibly due to number of plays - blocking, route running. Roschon has proven capable of doing more.-

Didn’t much see any lineman eating up blocks. It’s a small sample of the clips that are shown but damn if every one doesn’t show opposing olinemen with free releases to the next level.
Foster got tripped but at least the safeties are semi-aggressively heading towards the ball carrier.
Hey PK -- What would you say you do here?

TCUs defense is shittier than ours. Their players and systems have been in place. Now maybe Patterson been gone for a few weeks, but his influence remains. And they weren’t exactly performing up to standards while he was there.
At a high level, PK makes as much sense to retain him as bringing on Patterson. You know one year does not a trend make. I’m not saying retain PK. I am saying Patterson is as questionable for several reasons. Age, unknown want to at this point, recent success.
