  1. Fair enough. The depth chart looks to have reasonable youth. From an observation perspective, the pressure the Ravens created was noticeable and mostly took Stroud out of his game. With an elite Oline and a top flight QB, you should be able to compete in any game. If a Mike Evans or Coleman was added, I’m not sure that changes things significantly in a game similar to that one. Now maybe a healthy line does. Or an improved one. I’m skeptical of 1st round DBs. There are likely nice options for offensive skill guys to fit in later rounds or free agency. I’m an increasingly win upfront guy.
  2. My comment was largely an effort to trigger folks. I’m very pro-Jones and not exactly pro-TommyBoy. At the same time, I’ll certainly acknowledge who was here when Jones hit campus. Also, don’t have an issue acknowledging some good fortune and timing helping get guys here either. I figure we got some current Oline guys here because of that.
  3. I don’t religiously follow the Texans, but I think maybe the OC is staying because it’s ok to have patience. Continued success with Houston with result in future opportunities. Stay until you get the situation you want. Now off on random tangent. There’s considerable discussion about replacing QBs or simply how terrible they are with less discussion about how poor their Olines are. You can even take a look at “ disappointing” Trevor Lawrence. Well PFF says his Oline is bottom 6. Seattle, Carolina, Giants, Jets and Titans were worse. Washington is 24 but largely because Cosmi was the #4 Guard. Gates was the #16 C (so barely top half). Andrew Thomas Giants #18 T. Scherff of the Jags #20 Guard. Of all this teams referenced, that’s it for top 20 at the position. So maybe build upfront before determining the QB is the problem. All that to say, the Ravens pressured Stroud consistently enough to make things very uncomfortable. Chasing a WR is not the solution for that. Then compare to the Chiefs defensive success versus those same Ravens. Protect your passer. Harass your opponents. Skill guys of Singletary, Pearce, Schultz, Dell, Jordan, Metchie, Collins can be a winner. The Texans need to get their lines to next level. Murphy is at the top of the list for intriguing draftable players. If you think he’s Aaron Donald, you take him otherwise you build Oline.
  4. Great Tom Herman evaluation.
  5. He’d likely get my vote. On the positive side, his playoff defense kept the opponent in the 30s for the first time ina decade.
  6. I think technically Najee did start but believe Warren is the better ball carrier. They’re quality players and think hot hand is a reasonable strategy. Their arrivals on the team highlight the good and bad of the current Steelers. One a free agent. The other a 1st rounder when you don’t block particularly well and have holes on your defense. Warren was a far better deal than Najee.
  7. I see the real UT is at #8.
  8. All I know is every time I saw Oregon play their TE was making plays and scoring TDs. Whoever was coaching him had to be doing a bang up job.
  9. I’m not sure the Steelers need to draft 3 offensive skill guys with their first 3 picks. But think of the options they’d have.
  10. It was reported he didn’t want to switch. He was a starting CB. Not to say he was a lock down corner but top flight ones are hard to come by. We didn’t have an immediate replacement at CB. You did get a glimpse at CB without RW at OU. Not to say Watts makes the play, but both other options missed key tackles. There’s no guarantee that such a conversion works. And presumably RW should convert because he’s not fast enough/cover skills aren’t great. So the theory is in part convert him to S so he can get some man coverage. That’d likely be in the slot, which could in fact be more difficult than his existing role. Safety and CB are different skill sets. There’s not really anything Watts has shown to say he’s a S. I get it. He does have the potential, but the best converts are playmakers that have aged and lost some juice. He has not shown that playmaking ability. Where is this anticipation/breaking on the ball ability? I’m not sure it’s the exact reason but we have stopped blitzing him maybe because he couldnt finish the play. I hope he makes it. Maybe it’s safety. Maybe it’s cover 2 corner if that even exists in today’s NFL. But for us, it likely would be like Swoopes to TE would have been. Minimal impact.
  11. It did not force them to call time out. The run call thought was not bad but changing personnel and running a tight formation was. WBT mentioned higher up that not having the next play ready was the issue. If you run it, burn 15 seconds and keep the timeout because if the 49ers have the ball, they are burning 40.
  12. Thought Badgely got his butt cut. He probably isn’t 83% from 45 and 47. The rationale is convert one 4th and score a TD then you score more than 6. Personally I try the kick to tie, but the first one was fine. Catch the ball.
  13. Well Josh Reynolds killed two drives. Jameson Williams shoulda scored on the flea flicker. Sometimes you make the play; sometimes not. Campbells biggest screwup was the goalline time management.
  14. Mccaffery is averaging 3.3 yards per carry. The Lions pass D is not good.
  15. I think Reynolds can’t handle the thought of heartbreak at the hands of Justin Tucker again. He’s just unaware the Ravens lost.
  16. Not enough negative criticism for the Aggies WR dropping the 4th down ball.
  17. I never said that. Upthread there was talk about the loaded SF roster. Well? By the way, PFF had your KC Chiefs Oline rated #18 after the regular season. The Niners were #21. I’d take Allen. I think Burrow and more so Herbert are overrated. Of all those dudes Purdy is probably playing over his draft spot more so than the others.
  18. Dudes never done shit without the best trio of WRs.
  19. There’s nothing special about that Oline. The 49ers have quite a bit of draft capital in their skills guys, not to include Purdy. I too have a tendency to dislike overhyped players. Purdy ain’t that guy for me. Yet.
  20. Bullshit bub. I did see the Chiefs lose a TD then a shot at the FG due to penalties. Their offense didn’t do shit in the 2nd half so not sure what holding you are referencing. There weren’t any PI calls that should have been made. I’m sure there was some bitching about the pick in the end zone. There was early contact, but the ball was uncatchable. Bush was not letting that ball by him.
  21. Didn’t read the whole thread but have seen the bitching about the refs. First off, the worst non-call was the leg whip in the end zone against Chris Jones. That’s two points Chiefs and Chiefs ball. The Roquan PF was absolutely a PF. You knock a defenseless player on his ass without a live play it’s a PF every time. And the distance was largely inconsequential anyway. The hold versus Likely? Probably was a hold but it’s likely looking at PI as a possibility but the give up on the play made that component moot. From a field perspective it had no impact on the play. At a minimum you should understand why it wasn’t called.
  22. I think Worthy’s year 2 will be discounted somewhat regarding drops and tracking. It’ll be pretty easy to explain away the drops because of a broken hand. His drop rate this year and I believe freshman year was lower than Flowers last year and Marvin Harrison Jr this year. His sophomore drop rate was more the outlier. Mitchell’s was great this year with only one drop, but he was 17% as a frosh. Typically, fans of their own team scrutinize the hell out of their team but far less so of others. The tracking consideration is similar, in my opinion. He didn’t have that issue as a frosh. He didn’t really have that this year. You can reference that UW play. I put that more on timing than tracking. Sanders had one or two in that UW game too. Last year you had instances of Sanders, Whittington, Roschon having plays with difficulty finding the ball. Overall Worthy has a lot of production so he’ll have lots of positive plays that can provide counters to the perceived negative ones. I saw one scouting report that referenced a 10.5 100M, a 4.29 40. We shall see.
  23. I have no idea where they’ll go, but the NFL is pro smallish, quick twitch, create separation guys. Now, he may be too skinny for their liking, but Flowers, Waddle, Duvonts Smith, Jordan Addison, Tank Dell are similar profiles. Small, quick twitch with run after catch skills. Then last years draft you had Quinton Johnston and Jonathan Mingo drafted who are taller guys that did little. In the 2022 draft you had Garrett Wilson, Olave, Jahan Dotson on the smallish side. Also Drake London and Treylon Burks as the bigger guys. And many of the successful guys had a rather sustained level of production at the collegiate level which Worthy does. Worthy’s biggest weakness is making the catch against tight coverage. Do NFL guys think he can create enough separation to offset that.
  24. By my count there were 7 Big 12 offenses in the top 30 in OFEI. There were 7 in the SEC. We did not play 2 from the 12 but played 1 from the SEC then we had UW. So at least in one metric, half our schedule was against top 30 offenses. That doesn’t include Gundy and Holgerson who’ve done well historically on the offensive side. This staff attempts to address areas of need. So perhaps there will be more emphasis on pass defense than run defense. With Sarks calling card being offense and having his dream QB, offensive line with 100+ starts under their belt, the best WR corp NIL can buy, the offense simply needs to run away with some games. They did not do this and often gave the opponent hope and life in various ways.
  25. As best I can tell, Mitchell has never been the #1 target on any of his teams. In only 7 of 30 games has he caught 4 or more passes. He’s tall but not overly physical it seems. He hasn’t caught 100 passes and it’d be surprising if he was the primary focus for an opponent’s gameplan. If you’re drafted in round 1, aren’t you a #1 WR that gets heavy targets? He hasn’t shown that to date. Worthy for example caught 4 or more in 11 games this year alone and mid to high 20s in 39 games. Sanders is at about 14 of 27 games. It’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out.
