  1. Why would we want to lose to Tech at Minute Maid or globe life?
  2. If Malcolm Roach can do it, so can Blackshire.
  3. I was throwing Witt in there. Then LBJ. Witt is not there now, but the upside is there. It’s not a given, but we’ll compete if those two have successful seasons. Few teams run very deep with consistent starters. Wake was different last year and look where it got em. Tennessee had some big arms, but they were not great last year. Any teams season comes down to 2 or 3 games series essentially. Every week in conference then the regionals and supers are that way too. You can lump the CWS in that. That changes a bit if you get in the losers bracket. Our best and reasonable hope is to get those where we want them to be.
  4. Take it or not but PFF has Maye at a higher percentage of big time throws the past two years than either Daniels or Williams.
  5. No program has failed to win the CWS once getting there more than Texas. The biggest failure for Pierce to date is not winning the CWS. He’s been reasonably on target getting to the CWS. The biggest negative in my opinion is the staff volatility. And early returns this year are not a positive. This is certainly the worst start for the staff in recent memory. I don’t think it’s a talent issue. That’s not to say we have overwhelming talent. But the bulk of the season is in front of us including the most important stretches. We can hit, but the big question is whether we can do it timely. We have capable high-end arms that allow you to compete in any series. Then we have guys that have contributed good innings and some other new arms so it’s about performing to their ability. It’s baseball with many inherent ups and downs. Pierces teams have responded reasonably well in prior years. This is a low low on the brink of conference play so it’s a bit different than other years. This team goes as LBJ, Witt and Hurley go.
  6. Wilson to Pittsburgh would not be a smart move. For teams with shitty Olines, you don’t try to shore that up with an over the hill QB. Maybe the Steelers Oline is not quite shitty level, but they were. Their OC was terrible and got fired. You can’t even evaluate your QB when those two things exist. Washington has a poor Oline and coaching volatility so a bit hard to evaluate QB there too. But I’m not sure I go Wilson for any team.
  7. Mixed messages generally don’t work well. What about Minchey? He doing well somewhere too?
  8. Yes and let’s not forget how Skenes wound up at LSU. He was already a great player that began to focus on being a one -way player. Hard to buy they developed him when you referenced their other guys not throwing up many zeroes. Giving up double digits in back to back games is never a positive. A quick scan of last year shows we did not lose if we scored double digits. We lost one scoring 9 and another scoring 7. Everything else was 6 or fewer.
  9. This is wrong. Shittiest era of football ever. Not even close to the most talented roster. Somewhere in that timeframe it was asked why there were no NFL QBs from Texas. Because those with power in Texas at the high school and college level lacked any foresight. No 7 on 7. No summer conditioning. Few, if any, wide open offenses. As the offenses opened up, the defenses had to adjust so more speed and agility. Fast forward and there’s an article saying 25% of NFL starting QBs are from Texas in 2020. One from the prior year saying 16 different high schools produced 18 NFL QBs. That’s one discussion point. I’d bet the number of WRs was limited too. Lotta muscled up dipshits with limited mobility. So virtually eliminate the state that produces the best talent at the most important position and start there on your talent evaluations.
  10. Yep. Pretty much everyone has limited depth. Few teams have 1-9 that hit .300. A team ERA of 4.00 gets you in or around the top 10 in the country. If your starting catcher (and wasn’t he the #1 in Texas two years ago?) goes down, there’s probably a considerable drop off with #2. If your projected closer goes down, the next guy creates a hole elsewhere. Very few teams can go 3 deep at starter. We should feel comfortable that LBJ can battle any #1. Hurley needs consistency but is capable. Anyone judging Witt mostly on one appearance needs to be checked out or have their ass kicked. Particularly first start of the season on a cool night. He’s still building his mind as much as his arm.
  11. What’s the reason behind this? We walked 8 LSU guys. Gave up 6 runs. Walked 2 Bobcats. They scored 11. Walked 1 Commodore. Score 14 in only 8 innings.
  12. The fumbles were the killers. The offense did not have a great game. The UW defense was easily their weak unit.
  13. Seems as though a number of you need some life coaching from Fletch. A jolt of positivity.
  14. That Watts RAS score is incomplete right? The vertical is surprising. If you’re talking free safety, I’m not sure his relative speed getting worse is a positive.
  15. Looking at some PFF data. Based on sheer number of attempts, not dropbacks, Williams threw middle of the field 10 yards and beyond on 17% of throws. Daniels also 17%. Now weigh that against Williams throwing play action on 39% of throws and 24% of his throws being screens. Daniels was 17% and 11%. I could back out the screen attempts but nah. There’s a number of questions about Williams. He’s not getting that many play passes and screens in the NFL. Given that Lincoln has had two recently over drafted QBs, that should give some pause. And it’s not like he just willed USC to win after win. I’d shoot for trading down and get the motherload of picks. Chicago needs help almost everywhere. They actually have decent offensive skill guys. They need to shore up their front.
  16. Depends on how one interprets this. He pitched meaningful innings last year. Even had some successful ones.
  17. Some y’all a little high strung for so early in the season. Sit back, relax and enjoy. Three games in last year most of you couldn’t even spell Peyton Powell.
  18. Californians don’t like to hit homers. They prefer defense and pitching so crappy weather plays into their game. And the proof of that. In 2023, Texas 91 homers, Tordorors or whatever 54. So there.
  19. I’d say the chances of anyone finding that (emphasis on that) hat are slim to none. Unless of course that dude posts here.
  20. DDA sighting in left field. No shocker as we already knew that.
  21. Honored to be thought of Coach Pierce or DDA, whichever one you actually are. Bring home a W tonight.
  22. Yes, a lot what ifs. You’re right I don’t think the 49ers go for 2 if they score the TD. They didn’t know Reid’s strategy. Or at least I’m not sure that was referenced leading up to the game. Not all coaches are going for 2 in that scenario though. But if you tell me it’s pointless to argue that SF goes for 2 is just as irrelevant as saying Reid would go for 2. Neither happened. We don’t know how that plays out. Certainly neither scenario impacted the outcome. To me, not going on 4th and 4 is worse than taking the ball first. You are saying the Chiefs never had any intention of it getting to the 3rd possession. You may well be right. But you just stated you weren’t assuming Mahomes was scoring a TD. That’s counter to Shanahan trusting his defense and the assumption that Reid will allow a 3rd possession. When Shanahan decided to receive, all options, all outcomes were on the table. He had to choose based on that. Anything subsequent to that was irrelevant as to whether it was a good or reasonable decision. Based on the outcome, it was the wrong decision. Anyway, good discussion. You’re welcome to the final word. I do think future strategies may be different based on how this played out.
  23. Obviously we’re talking opinion here. Whatever was chosen was not a sure fire thing. So honestly any choice can be justifiable. Basically what you’re saying is that you think Mahomes is scoring a TD. If you give them the ball first and if they score a TD, go for 2 and get it. Then the 49ers are behind the 8 ball. 4th and 1, maybe 2 anywhere on the field, Reid is probably going for it. Had the Chiefs been 4th and 8 from the SF 25 down 3, they are likely kicking the FG. If they get the ball first with same down and distance, they’re likely kicking the FG. It’s not as though every single 4th down decision would be made differently simply because KC got the ball last. I’d also say that anyone that made up their mind and never considered that the 49ers could score the TD and get the 2 pointer first has a major shortcoming in their thought process. Going with the assumption that the second possession is the only one that allows for 4 down territory is wrong too and ignores the way football is played today.
  24. Intentional grounding has to stay. That’s a possession changer. If there’s no rule, dudes will be trying to throw everything. The eye is the sky official for the NFL is good. Give him more power to overrule crappy calls particularly roughing the passer. College needs this.
