  1. I’m confused. So you can’t gain 20 pounds of muscle in a summer. Even using steroids? What about in 8 months, with or without steroids?
  2. Will that go the same for Hornsdown4ever Caleb? Guess I’m on the wrong board as my primary loyalties rest with the Horns. Always.
  3. I’m probably his biggest critic, but you’re largely looking at it from a stats standpoint. The hidden big plays are 3rd down stops. He was more effective here this year. Even versus UW, he made important tackles that were sorta non-descript. His overall tackles were down because the guys up front took more away. He missed fewer tackles. Turnovers are a different deal. Fumbles recovered is largely out of a players control. For most fumbles caused is a bit of fortune rather concerted effort. Interceptions are more under the players control but still dependent on other factors including drops. I never see it referenced in critique of PK is walking up our LB to the end of the LOS. I’m not sure it ever worked. Oline engagement is not Fords strongsuit. He was better this year on his physical game in my opinion.
  4. To hell with any of you Cowboys fans who allow your hatred of the Eagles to outweigh your hatred of baker. Hurts is tolerable whereas mayfield is not.
  5. The baker has been good. The TB pass catchers have not been.
  6. Perhaps I’ve allowed a relatively small number of posts to cloud my judgement, but our pass protection was generally solid against UW. My rewatch was a cut up on ESPN, and they did cut probably our worst plays in that regard. For comparison UM gave up 2 sacks to UW like us. They gave up 9 pressures out of around 25 dropbacks. We had 14 pressures out of about 50 dropbacks. QE was under pressure 27% of the time as compared to 31% for JJ. One sack against us was equal parts QB too. The last play was mischaracterized a bit too. The two outside guys for UW basically ran upfield and took themselves out of the play.
  7. Exactly how many best minds do you think there are?
  8. I believe the tuck rule preceded a 45 yarder in the snow. If he misses its game over most likely. That same season they won at Pitt. Brady got hurt after having led the offense to 0 points prior to his exit. They won the AFC championship game without him essentially. Special teams I believe scored twice. The offense/special teams outscored the defense 13-7 in that first Super Bowl. The defense created 3 turnovers. The offense generated 267 yards. Vinatieri hit a 48 yarder to win it. They lost to the Giants due to those low percentage completions from Eli but also because the offense didn’t do the job. Since January 13, 1975, there have only been 2 teams win scoring less than 20. The Giants over the Pats. And the Pats over the Rams. And the Pats scored a measly 17 in the other loss. And if you want to talk impossible passes, credit Edelman for his incredible catch versus the Falcons. There have been 10 Super Bowls, 6 of which were in the first 9 games, in which the losing team did not reach double digits. So in 4 of almost the last 50 games the loser scored 9 or less. Brady was the winning QB two of those 4 times. Tell me again who this one man responsible is?
  9. Good question. I have wondered how the Bills franchise goes if they hit the game winner against the Giants. With each subsequent Super Bowl, they got worse. And negative plays/events seem to snowball.
  10. Tampa was loaded. Brady is not dumb. The defense harassed the hell out of Mahomes. Four turnovers created versus the Saints. Bill had the Cleveland Browns as the 3rd best team in the NFL one year. I’m sure he had nothing to do with the Rams scoring 3 points in the Super Bowl. Or that the D scored and held the greatest show on turf to well below expectations. They did it together. Just like everybody else Bill probably lost a bit as he aged and his assistants kept revolving but to downplay his greatness is ridiculous. In the last 40 years, only 5 teams have won it scoring 20 points or less. Two of those wins were the Patriots. One of those losses was the Patriots. The fewest points scored in a Super Bowl win - the Patriots. The fewest points given up in a Super Bowl - the Patriots and Cowboys (1972). The Jets, Bills, Dolphins were generally trash during that time too so that was helpful. Matt Cassell of USC fame led them to 10 wins one season even though it amounted to nothing. The tuck rule was bs. Lots of great defense. Lots of underappreciated players. That’s largely Bill.
  11. Perhaps but from my way high up seats the immediate fumble recovery chaps my ass most. And maybe I’m immune to holding to an extent as this has been to us for years, particularly at the hands of OU.
  12. Don’t take my comment as feeling sorry for them. But it was impactful.
  13. I am a bit curious about his role if he does return. Would they let him run at CB? He’s aggressive. Seems to be quick. But how fast is he? But yes his experience and maturity would be invaluable.
  14. It’s football. The object is to outscore your opponent. Every opponent is different with different strengths and weaknesses. So every scenario would be different. Milroe is a better, faster runner than Duggan. Bama skill guys comparable to TCUs. The talent level of the Michigan defenders didn’t markedly change over the past year. Experience and maturity allow persons to handle different scenarios. So rather than Duggan being all world maybe it was something else.
  15. Were these the same guys out there last year when TCU throttled their asses? Interestingly enough, piggybacking off ctj in another discussion, the XM radio crew said UM had 20 draftable guys but none were 1st or 2nd day guys. Sounds like their experience and maturity played a big part.
  16. Yea, this one was huge. It puts UM at 1st and 20, Fifty yards of field position instead. It changed the momentum of their offense. The problem with the UW hold was that they anticipated what happened. The left hand probably did grab but he let go quickly. That should never be called particularly with what they don’t call.
  17. Michigans D is damn good. But their O is less imposing. Our OL is a bit underappreciated at times. I think we would have had some success running the ball, which would have helped pass protection. As to the 2 turnovers, those were in the 2nd half. We had two chances in the first half to take a lead. Those were the best opportunities to establish the run. Seems like we got 1 first down on those two possessions. A 16 yard run. We had too many games in which the offense failed to keep pressure on the opponents defense. We either start strong for about 3 possessions or we start slow. More consistent here is a big key for next year.
  18. You underestimate the hate this board has. It hates most white defenders.
  19. I’d wear it. But I’m not an FSU fan.
  20. Canada was awful. I’m not a Tomlin guy. The non-losing streak is good. But. A team with TJ Watt has never won a playoff game. I believe they’ve given up 90 points in their last two playoff games. No playoff wins in 10 years. They advanced this year in part because Burrow was hurt and Lamar and others sat the last game. He’s had 15 years to find another QB. He’s never drafted a successful QB. He spent a 1st round pick on a jag RB yet somehow that’s not a negative. Pickens, Johnson, Freirmuth along with Najee and Warren is a talented group. Yet they struggle.
  21. The ESPN rebroadcast cut out our first drive and also the back-to-back holding penalties on us. No way in hell their DL outplayed our OL. Trice was good, but he was neutralized a fair amount too. Great call on 3rd and 5 to rush him up the middle in half 1. It shouldn’t have fooled us but did. His 2nd half sack was as much QB movement as blocking. The Blue fumble was bs. They were blowing the hell out of the whistle before Trice showed up. Not an immediate recovery at all. Blue is an upper level talent though. But the fumbles were huge. There were opportunities to overcome them though. Generally speaking, I feel like we played decently well. There wasn’t really anything good about the last 4 plays. The disappointing matchup was their DBs versus our WRs. Their staff did a good job creating opportunities for their WRs, better than we did.
  22. Watching the replay. So far we are outcoached. And it’s certainly more common to attempt to run for a 1st to end the game than take a knee and leave time on the clock. Hard to fault one coach for a call the majority would make.
  23. Did Washington’s DL outplay our Ol? Two sacks given up. 6 plus yards per rush but only 26 of them. Several of you have harped on defenses playing pass D over run D. I think UW certainly did that. In spite of the grousing of the stat PFF had UW with 14 pressures on about 45 dropbacks. We had 20 on about 40. I don’t think the UW DL outplayed our OL. But we did not emphasize what was working best.
  24. Damn people. The threat was always against our corners. Set aside Houston and there was not much attacking the safeties. The offense had one isolation versus Bama on a safety. One versus KU (game was essentially over at that point). Against Houston, I believe one TD was the corner, one was in a 4/5 wide in which the QB escaped the pocket, rolling to the same side, then one S isolation with a damn good throw. TCU, KSU didn’t attack the safeties. Tech, OSU. Nope. OU only got 1 deep against a guy that wasn’t playing late in the season. BU got 2 deep, one against a guy not playing late, and the other debatable as to whether that was even safety play. Rice, Wyoming, BYU didn’t accomplish much. The biggest risk to safeties in pass coverage is 4/5 WR sets and isolated 1 v 1 down the field. That’s every team in America, every year. Our personnel sets are 5 DBs. Always. So straight up man from the safeties would be the 4th/5th guy with one of those likely being a TE or an RB. That’s not a major disadvantage for our safeties. It wasn’t all year. We emphasize taking away the run. With that there will opportunities to isolate a WR on the corners. They have 3 very capable wideouts that they’d happily go to against our corners. Barron is great, but he’s best around the LOS. There’s limited value in working against safeties when you can more easily get those matchups versus corners.
  25. I don’t know exactly, but I don’t think it’s pressure per play in that you can have multiple pressures per play. If Penix were to avoid 3 rushers on one play, all 3 get a pressure, which could be accurate. The measurement criteria is probably well defined but would still have subjectivity. Just like any stat it needs to be taken into context. You’d hope that the method of measurement is consistent.
