Different things yes. But the narrative about the backups is off base. That Savion play had the ball caught in front of Brooks. Hill and Ford were in. Even Crawford plays a lot including half the snaps versus Bama. That’s not backups. The entire secondary was not really at play either. The LBs were a problem on that play. Two secondary missed opportunities but as I watched it again I don’t feel Crawfords angle was that bad. TCU shortcomings were different than KSU shortcomings. Part of the Houston problems may have been overcompensating after Gabriel ran for 100. People latch onto shit that’s not totally a repeat issue. Then assume our problems are not the same as 98% of other schools. Yet across the board we’re better than 95+%.
  2. I had forgotten til now, but he got up slow earlier after making a tackle. Maybe 1st half. On that Wylie catch, he was waving Ford to get Wylie because he wasn’t able to run. Don’t think he came back in. Remember he missed part of Houston so he’s banged up. I’ll miss that dude when he’s gone. Maybe as much as Daly.
  3. Could be on Hill. We’re probably in good shape if Burke doesn’t run upfield. My point is not to isolate Barron but to say it’s a little bit of everyone. Gimpy or not, it was a big play. For him, I do believe he’s best around the Los. But that’s not surprising for aggressive guys. Yes, he did come up gimpy on that play and Guilbeau came in..
  4. In the highlights that resulted in TCUs TDs, it was TCU taking advantage of different persons and others not helping their teammates. Hill seems to get wide in his drops before he gets depth. That’s similar to our issues in 2021 and first half of 2022. Similarly we are too aggressive to the flat. As a QB you pretty much want that WR underneath rather than the RB. But they threw on Barron twice. Brooks. Watts. The TD run was between Broughton and Burke, who got upfield. Again not sure what Hill is doing. The TD between Taafe and Ford was a solid throw. Again if we cause some QB hesitation, Ford probably gets there.
  5. Yes, it’s more than one thing. It’s a bit different each game. I’m sitting here on YouTube when I should not be. We’re up 26-6. 2nd and 11. The backup Dline is in. I’m not sure what Hill is supposed to do, but in my humble opinion, he does a crappy job. He chases the back to the flat rather than squeezing the curl a bit that still would allow for an easy tackle in the flat. Encourage the throw to the flat and play 3rd and 8. Then Ford gets a terrible angle as does Crawford. 40 yards later TCU has a drive. Multiple culprits, but the first two were the starting LBs.

True but look at schedules again. OhioState, Georgia. Washington, Oregon have all had close games in which they didn’t runaway with in the end. Pretty much always even the best of the best have close games.
  7. It’s certainly not the singular reason, but our offense did not keep the pressure on. Let’s not forget special teams made mistakes too. Same thing versus KSU when we had what 16/17 possessions. Yes, I’d like the defense to shut them down. I’d also like the offense to convert more than the occasional 3rd down. And score 7 in the 2nd half (I guess the 5 yard possession vs KSU counts). In your opinion what is a reasonable snap distribution? All players and all units need to pick it up. But we won.
  8. You don’t blow teams out scoring 29. Was there more than one replay? The only one I saw was nothing. As I mentioned elsewhere, unless they get updated, Sweat and Murphy played their most numbers of snaps and highest snap percentage to date. Maybe as it cools they can stretch it out.

Yep. Think it was USCs last TD so not real impactful.

I am not saying it was a weakness. It was an incredibly strong 5. We were fortunate there were no injuries until the championship game. We didn’t have a full two deep of stars at DB. Then again no one ever does.

  13. Interesting stat per PFF. Thrown here since there’s consternation on Worthy and drops and the NFL. Marvin Harrison Jr. has a 9.2% drop rate this season. A little Evan Stewart has you at 9.8%. Worthy at 7.8 which is tied for 80th worst of those with a minimum of 50 targets.
  14. QB gots to decide where to go with it. At the same time, if your first target is open, throw it. And Worthyis open a lot. I think Whittington is open a lot too.

In my lifetime, Texas has never had a roster without “holes.” We had holes in 2005. The LB tslent was minimal. No big play, big talent WRs. No DB depth beyond the first 5. Only 6 Ol. Apparently people didn’t have the internet to scrutinize and lay blame as they do now. The struggles Texas has are really no different than everyone else. The best of the best always have games that don’t come easy as they should.

I can see how with Herman and NIL that any outcome is possible.
  17. I just watched it again. Yes, he was gimpy. He actually got dinged earlier on a tackle on a dreaded short crossing route. Then Guilbeau got a lot of run in his place after Wiley catch. He was already beat though cause he bit on the back or whoever was running behind the LOS. He was beating the block like we’ve seen him do a hundred times. Honestly, it was a great play call that they executed. TCU made some plays those last 3 drives actually.

He did recruit the trenches. Murphy, Sweat, Collins, Broughton, Sorrell were recruited by Herman. Murphy and Ojomo were his recruits too. As were Jones and Majors. He didn’t recruit the depth that we hope Sark does. But as you said, he didn’t have NIL to bring home more, higher profile guys. Lack of NIL and his moronic tendencies were the bigger problem rather than not wanting big guys. And that’s not to say we didn’t have too many WRs.
  19. Gbenda has already been reduced. He and Crawford have gotten about 45 snaps between them the past two weeks. Hill is playing more at least in part for next year. So not really sure what’s expected to get Gbenda out more. I’m not certain Hill is any more productive at this point. Gbenda has not played a ton in the past 4 weeks.

How far do we get to go back? It was 4 games ago they demolished that powerful Arkansas game by 3. The game before was the 26-20 winner at the Ags and their 23 yards rushing. Bamas 23 rushing yards that is.
  21. You said “I hate that we rotate so much.” That rotation was less yesterday than games with more successful run defense games. You do have me curious though, and I’ll probably watch again.
  22. You’re not alone. Certainly a bit of that is perception. I’m confident in saying that Schooler and Crawford are very fast for S. I think there’s an element of them getting the blame when not the primary reason. The “slow” talk picked up after Bama and BU. When 4.3 WRs made some plays. Guess what? Every game Bama has pass TDs down the middle of the field. It happens. A lot. Contrast the KSU 32 yard pass with the Taafe pick. The S takes the inside route both times. Some say the S blew the TD. Brooks is over the top on both. I’ve read fans reactions on the Taafe play that if he was fast, he doesn’t need the deflection. Maybe, but the bigger deal is that he is not the playside S. So maybe the S did his job and the rest is bs.
  23. I don’t believe this to be correct. Single biggest play versus Tech last year was a failure on this play. Earlier in the game, it worked by a hair. The issue with it is Sarks stubbornness. Quit going left 75% of the time. Give it occasionally. Or maybe don’t delay every damn time.
