  1. Just to make Tech people feel better, I would have preferred the Big 12. But the pre-NIL under the table payments, SEC hype train required action if you wanted to compete with it. It is the money, but the competitive environment was skewed. Who else was going to act? PAC-12? I doubt it. The ACC still is sitting on their hands. The playoff and subsequent expansion made conference shifts a certainty. The SEC and Big 10 still and will always want what is their “right.” The most seats at that table, which in their minds, is my 3 loss team is better than your 1 loss team. Tech and Baylor are our rivals. Maybe not the primary ones but rivals nonetheless. History and living amongst each other make the best rivalries. We have/had that. Losing them forever, that’s hard to reconcile. Supplement that with great and varied non conference matchups, and you have a winner. I’m not a big trash talker, and a great part of road game experiences are the brief bonding experiences with opposing football fans who appreciate the moment. Winning is enough. Losing is painful enough. All the rest is bullshit. Nobody asked my opinion. And no one gives a shit about my opinion now, but each step closer to the NFL this becomes the less great it becomes to me.
  2. The DBs have whiffed too often the past two years at or behind the LOS. I’m not sure if they’re thinking killshot or not, but they don’t have much backing them up so they need to understand the objective. Tackle or disrupt rather than highlight reel.
  3. Worthy dropped 3 versus UW, but two were on the same possession. The other wasn’t necessarily a drive killer. The TCU drops probably killed a drive or two but not necessarily scoring chances. Now the Bijan wheel route versus TCU? That’s as bad as QBing as you’ll ever see. Perfect call by the way.
  4. I’d say all those things are important. I don’t call play calling adjustments but for the past two years there are games which Sark fails to use his rather simple to execute screen, jet sweep, diamond formation game. We’re less perfect for that without Bijan and Roschon gone but still damn good from a personnel standpoint. If the offense begins to lull, we need to get the ball in playmakers hands. Those type plays can you get you first downs and kick start drives. We need to catch the interceptions when presented. There’s no stats background for it, but we missed quite a few opportunities for picks. Staying healthy is important. Obviously luck is needed there.
  5. See look at that Gbenda is ready.
  6. This is a prime example of opposing fans bullshit. The only example you even cite was the type of hit that wasn’t really called at that time. What year did Leach whine? I was in Lubbock shortly thereafter hearing a Tech fans discussing it as gospel. It was wrong. There was justification for every single call.
  7. I realize it may be a bit off but his bio shows he was 6’ 230. SENIOR (2015) First-team All-Big 12 selection by the Associated Press … second-team All-Big 12 honoree by the league’s coaches, San Antonio Express-News, ESPN.com and Sporting News … started all 11 games in which he played, leaving early against Texas Tech with an injury and missing the Baylor game … led the team with 75 tackles, 6.5 sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss … That team had no depth. Or at least no mature depth. We lost to Tech in part because of that. Both LBs went out and it was freshmen. The following week I think we started 7 frosh on D, moved Duke Thomas to FS. Jinkens probably got lost in the program faltering. He and Marcus Johnson could have had a role on the 2023 team.
  8. Bullshit. Yes, ask other fan bases. They don’t like Texas and believe we get the calls. We don’t. I live in a Big 12 city. I’ve heard the bogus bullshit time and again. Texas has the advantages to overcome. Yeah, sorta maybe. I happen to have a bit more respect for the small town, 3 * than most. There are a shit ton more than 25 good prospects per year but that’s the biggest drawback for most teams - they can’t get the higher end “talent” but never mind the endless stream of mediocre talents like Drew Brees or LT that somehow make it to the NFL anyway. Coaching is the most important element. As I’ve matured, that has become even more apparent. The truth of the matter is that most Texas schools have underachieved, but we only want to put that at Texas doorstep. If Leach and Briles can do it, others can as well. I don’t particularly give shit about Yormarks comment. I am not concerned about refs screwing us over this year. Wouldn’t put it past them, but they have subtlety done fine the last handful of years giving us the short end of the stick.
  9. Your boy slorch continually references the preferential treatment Texas receives. That thought is prevalent too. Much of it based on bullshit. Over the past 10 years, there’s exactly one call that’s pro-Texas that impacted a game significantly in our favor. There are likely others but far fewer than against Texas. As a fan there is no doubt you focus on how you’ve been wronged. But 2019 Big 12 champ. 2021 OU. 2015 OSU. I’m not saying last years OSU game was terrible but the hold on Jones was horrible given the way the game was called. Bama had some too (and I don’t even give a shit about the safety/not a safety). You should forgive the human nature bit when stuff pops up again and brings up bad memories for us.
  10. You see Kindles head looking to the right. That’s what happens when your face mask is pulled. That occurred multiple times that night. That’s not subjective and there’s nothing that should be obstructing the refs view. Terrible. I wanna say that’s the same crew as Tx-OU that year.
  11. Yeah, he was playing pretty well until he got hurt. Think that was against Tech. That was a tough game. The horseshit illegal man downfield at the end. The shoulda been pick turned Tech TD. Think Jinkens and Jefferson both got hurt.
  12. Yes. 11-3 in that case is acceptable. But will 7-2 get you in the championship game? That’s assuming that 3rd loss is to Bama. With 14 teams, we’d need a tie breaker most likely to get there. Odds would be decent that at least one loss is against another championship game front runner.
  13. Didn’t the guy trying to close the 9th blow that opportunity? Hence Smith in the 11th.
  14. I’m buying this. Well cause I want to buy it. The LBs actions and reactions are dictated by play call first then post snap actions. The post snap actions are often dictated by those in front of them and those behind (are you doing your job). If the DE or the DB runs upfield when it’s right at them, I can’t fault an ILB for getting there a tick late when the end man not only doesn’t help but makes it worse because there’s more space created. It also sucks as a Lb when your pursuit gets screwed up because the dude in front gets his ass thrown into you even if it’s just a slight clip. Or like the UW game when you’re trying to step up to fill the hole and you can’t get there because the Dl is 2-3 yards off the ball and in your face. You’re asking the impossible when you’re consistently trying to do your job then cover elsewhere. For 2021, we were learning a new staff, a new scheme again. So that’s understandable we’d be slower on the uptake. Maybe even slower since the staff was learning to work with each other. There is no good LBer play unless it starts upfront.
  15. The UW is a good game to watch for this year. They’re well coached with good talent including a capable QB. They missed some throws on us, but we battled and didn’t make the throws easy. They coach to their advantage so they identify some of our disadvantages. There are good examples of how we need to be more physical and sometimes sacrifice yourself to allow someone else to finish.
  16. If Levon Kirkland can play MLB at 280, everybody ought to be able to do it.
  17. I’m on the Gbenda hype train. One - cause I like to go against the grain. Two - cause I see the positives when others focus on the negatives (I actually flip that based on general perceptions). Three - he’s a ball of thunder. Four - he will play hard and be active. I watched the UW game again. The long TD run was right at him. Unfortunately the DT was pushed back into this lap. The defender to his left - unblocked and concerned with the fake/qb. I think he read it fine, but the line play (one player) caused the problem. He only logged 71 snaps in 2022, about a third of 2021. He needs reps to get consistency. I’m not sure he’ll be a 3 down guy so coverage may not be a huge issue. Last year he didn’t play enough to draw any definitive conclusions but PFF graded him well, and there were some positives from his limited snaps. I’d say throw 2021 out the window for a number of reasons.
  18. I didn’t realize Bush was on the field so much on 3rd and 4th down.
  19. Not for the season but leading up to the draft. I’m not aware of any hopes for the current season.
  20. I once knew a college soccer coach that traveled to Australia to recruit. Probably wasn’t too expensive.
  21. . I want Richardson to fail because of the the hype and opportunity provided that he hasn’t shown/earned on the field. If they got Minshew there based on false promises, I don’t care for that. But I have idea if that occurred. But yeah Irsay does his thing.
  22. If you had $220 million, then $225k could be considered chump change.
  23. Reps are important. However, if you are the Chiefs, would you like to go back in time and play Mahomes immediately or are you satisfied with how his development played out? What about Rodgers? Now Richardson. He needs more mental than physical development. And his college career more than others shows he needs to learn to play the position. He wasn’t drafted to play 4/5 years for the Colts. The intent is for him to play a decade so playing the first year could go either way. The rush to play him this year is he is that good. That would be surprising to know this early. As for Minshew, he probably knew the deal. My guess is that he’d like to play rather than just cash a check, but that he’ll take the check rather than do something else. The NFL has plenty of failures at the QB position due to lack of patience. Some of that is starting these guys too soon. Part of that is not giving guys enough opportunity given their surrounding environment. Sometimes they get it right, sometimes not.
  24. The answer to this statement is the story. You don’t put someone in your will just because they went to your school of choice. You don’t siphon off thousands of dollars only to give back millions to that same person. You don’t give them millions without being “family” whether they were adopted or not. No shit if my kid was a big recruit with the NFL in his future, Texas would be the hope. But it’s hard for me to cross that bridge of bringing that kid into my house without caring about him personally just to get him there. I enjoyed the movie but I elect to see the positives in the outcome rather than picking apart that not all of it is 100% altruistic.
  25. I believe that was Sark playing for this year. He said Ewers was his guy before the season started so he rode him.
