  1. That’d be great for college football. Get the right coaching staffs and enough NIL monies to compete, and there’s considerable upside from a talent perspective. I had not really thought a ton about Nil shifting some power away from those most willing to get dirty like Bama and Georgia. I’m not all about parity but don’t care for the entire western college football front being an afterthought. USC and UCLA have made efforts, but do the rest of them have long term hopes? And for me personally Stanford and Cal don’t move the needle from an interest perspective. Don’t think that rivalry game I’ve ever thought that’s must see tv.
  2. Lots of what ifs about Big 12 teams going to the PAC 12. In this latest round of moves, the Big 12 should have attempted to poach the PAC 12. Texas, OU, USC Washington, Oregon, OSU, Tech, TCU, KSU, Bu UCLA, then ISU, KU This move was about competing and money. USC would have been key. That would have been the conference with the 3 biggest names. The middle tier would have been very strong from a competitive standpoint. From the competition and money standpoint, the PAC 12 was dead. Too many schools unwilling or unable to legitimately compete. That was the selling point.
  3. And 10 teams then versus 14 now. This isn’t about recruiting titles. We’re now talking about baseline production to perceived upside of each individual. Our 16 guys are those who have made plays or flashed potential on the field. It’s time to win.
  4. Well yeah but they are saying 16 out of 22 position players are all conference types. That’s a huge number. Those other 6 would have to be significant holes. Then compare to other conference foes none of whom have 11. From what I remember, we probably have 3 times as many as any other conference team. And, from the 6 not listed, 4 are returning starters, one is replacing a two-year starter we let go, and the other is a very highly sought after LB. What that does tell you is that we’re the favorite to win the conference and by considerable amount. You win the conference there’s a good shot at a playoff berth. Anything can happen from there. Just let it flow.
  5. I am curious about this. How’d he mess it up so bad? And what is being unpacked? He’s the anti-David Ortiz but otherwise what you got against him.
  6. That seems reasonable. If that’s going to be the approach, they will need to find someone to lock down the 7th or 8th opposite Chapman. I know Chapma got the 8th versus the Dodgers one game presumably because it was heart of the order.
  7. The biggest question is why Chapman was used so early in the game. I didn’t watch so not sure of specifics. I’d presume it was because it was the heart of the order but still a bit unusual when chances are good some of those same guys hit in the 9th.
  8. Length of career is already longer at WR. So maybe potential earnings too. You have two to three times as many starters at Wr as RB. Same with CB. And in todays world, you see far more players converting from QB to other positions rather than the other way around. If you aren’t playing QB at a relatively early age, then you probably aren’t playing it much. Certainly not at the NFL level. Many RB skill sets and size don’t translate elsewhere. At least not relative to other NFL players. You have about 5 unique RBs in the NFL. That number will always be about that. Give or take.
  9. It’s no novelty. But your best chance at the NFL is playing time. Lots of quality playing time. And with the portal and NIL, transferring to the SEC from any conference is easier. It’ll be interesting to see how trading up in college football goes.
  10. Well, they do kinda get first dibs on coaching and broadcasting opportunities. Even if not, their earning potential doesn’t just end. I am a bit curious on monies spent on training. I would think much of that is paid on their behalf but maybe they all have personal trainers.
  11. FYI, Tyler Johnson was referenced largely for the ensuing reactions. I do have some appreciation for his hanging in there and becoming a decent player (assumption as I have not paid attention to his actual play). And in no way am I seriously in defense of TH.
  12. They have WVUs RB as 2nd team. No other offensive guys listed so I guess they’re saying those 3 linemen are carrying the RB to good stats but everyone else is not good.
  13. At the expense of pushing Mr. James over the edge with more PFF, ……………..Banks missing was a little curious. Overall, we were well represented on the 1st and 2nd teams. PFF listed them as two Ts, two Gs and a C so it wasn’t best 5 guys. The BYU guy and a WVU guy were the Ts. WVUs Milam is a class ahead of Banks and was SIs #1 rated high school RT and an Army All American. I scanned a PFF podcast on the 2024 Olinemen draft candidates. 3rd team selection Paul for Houston was mentioned in that podcast. Ford, Jerrin and Barron were all 1st team on D. Six offensive Horns on the first two teams. Six on D. Then 3 3rd teamers. And 1st team K and P. No edge guys though. For those that say Tom Herman can’t recruit Oline Tyler Johnson and C Jones come in at 3rd team. So there. I’m curious about that WVU Oline. I’ll pay more attention than I otherwise would have. All upperclassmen with good experience. Also, the Big 12 media had Novitsky at 1st team OL. He’s not on any of the 3 PFF teams.
  14. So you’re saying maybe this year we’ll find out. RBs that are great in the passing game are different animals.
  15. Did the 49ers go further in the post season with him than they otherwise would have?
  16. Well obviously. West Virginia has the best Oline in the country.
  17. Which begs the question of why isn’t HBP included in WHIP? It’s the same impact as a walk except you aren’t walking on 0-2 or 1-2.
  18. Yet his walks/IP was 3rd best on the team. No wild pitches. He hit a lot of dudes. You gotta like that strategy. Put the fear into the next dude of watching his earhole. It does not appear as though MSUs pitching coach had any magic. Still surprising he wasn’t drafted. I’m not sure if I should say to hell with him or I hope he has a successful career.
  19. I’d go error on a ground ball cause the out was there for the taking.
  20. That narrative the broadcast crew threw out in the Super of him not playing RF was odd. First, many a two way player played in the field and still pitched. Second, he only pitched 2.1 innings in the regional. A regional in which they had to come out of the losers bracket. One appearance. Dugan had two appearances in that regional, both of 3+ innings as a comparison. Then against us, he never pitched including game 3 when they were squeezing every last pitch out of their most dependable guys. If he can throw high 90s, tell him what he wants to hear and give him a shot. If we get 15-20 good innings, that’s a bonus. If he’s deadset on being a two way player, he’ll never meet his max ability at either. You have to wonder how much effort needs to go into the pitching side of things to be effective and does that result in a setback of offensive production. Get him in and let’s find out.
  21. I know they were discussing the record after 6 the other day but can’t remember the numbers. But we’ve matched that win total since the all star break. Is that correct?
