  1. I’m not aware of anyone with advanced metrics other than PFF. I don’t know that they’d have over the top safety help as part of that. That’d probably be incorporated into the pass D grade for each player. Same for open WRs that the Qb simply misses. The grading is ambiguous so not certain how reliable that is. As for Catalon, he looks a little chunky but no idea if that’s normal for him. He hasn’t shown anything to say he’s a good pass defender. At least not from returning from his latest injury.. I’m not sure what KU will tell us because they might scheme themselves open rather than out athlete us.
  2. You damn dudes. They beat 7-5 Michigan in the game prior to the bowl game. Michigan lead into the 4th. OSU won 25-21. I guess we’ll just discount that cause rivalry. Yes, they were capable of beating USC. They also were capable of losing 10 of 10.
  3. His drop rate as a frosh was 5%. 11% as a sophomore with a broken hand. Whether you believe is accurate on the hand is irrelevant. that’ll be the story for NFL teams. Johnston and Flowers both had drop rates in the 9-10% range. They got punished in the draft. It only takes one team to love you.
  4. In their first 5 games, the most points they scored? 34. Big wins over Miami of Ohio and SDSU. Just lit their asses up. They scored 40+ 4 times against shitty Big 10 teams. Lost to PSU 17-10. So absolutely? I didn’t say they weren’t better than Bama. I didn’t say they wouldn’t win. But OSU did lose twice. To act as though Bama is void of talent is premature. There’s also a good chance that Bama defense would do well versus that OSU offense. Anthony Gonzalez, Bobby Carpenter, Ted Ginn. Donte Witner, All first rounders. None worthy. Hawk, Mangold, Holmes were all good but were all average given their draft positions.
  5. Gotcha. The staff will have to deal with that situation. For me, it doesn’t matter the safety but Barron is one of your best so get him out there. You could even put him at corner. It’s not a knock on other guys it’s that Barron is that good. There’s been so much rotation it’s hard to know what’s situational, but it’s apparent Barron comes out for the 3rd LB.
  6. This isn’t exactly right. Wyoming threw for 136. Their longest was 20 yards. You know the one right over Crawfords head. Their other deepest completion was Watts/Catalon. They did isolate Thompson twice for firsts. He also had a PBU on 3rd and the pick when attacking with quick outs. Baylor took deep shots on Taafe/Watts and Catalon/Watts. The staff has a plan, and they work it.
  7. You know Barron never comes off for Taafe right? Barron only comes off for the 3rd LB in heavy offensive sets. Maybe not always heavy sets but 3 LB sets. And if you think Catalon is one of our better players, then we’ll that preconceived bias. But absolutely Barron needs to be on the field. And people will shit all over themselves about this and that but as it stands now, offenses can dictate whether he’s on the field.
  8. Worthy versus any Safety is a mismatch. Freshman/Senior, it doesn’t matter. That’s the point. As a DC, you don’t get a S isolated on a WR. So yes we’re vulnerable in that scenario. Same as every other team. Yes, both Catalon/Thompson are better downhill players. Their weaknesses are both likely their long speed. Sorry I find it odd that persons are singling out one player. One that is absolutely a reason this defense has turned it around. And that also includes a massive misstatement of performance for said player (abused by Kansas deep). Largely brought on by two-three plays that are mischaracterized or the Burton TD including unrealistic expectations on great route/throw.
  9. Since the Burton-Thompson matchup has got y’all in a tizzy, I challenge you to think about the Worthy TD versus Bama. (We won’t interject Johntay Cook over the BU safety). Then think about Bama-Ole Miss. Why didn’t Ole Miss attack the shit out of that safety? Deep safeties can’t match WRs. So yes any coach worth a shit will attack that. And any DC worth a shit won’t allow it. At least not continually. So maybe Ole Miss doesn’t have a Worthy. Or maybe Bama didn’t get caught in that situation. Or maybe the Qb misfired. Baldwin and Burton are speed guys. Not just everyone can replicate that. Then to favor Catalon over Thompson when Catalon was the safety on the Baylor deep throw to Baldwin is odd. That said Thompson/Catalon are similar players so it wouldn’t be surprising to see them not paired up versus passing teams. And for the past year plus, Thompson has been the better football player.
  10. You know this is wrong, right? Just to confirm I watched pretty much all KUs completions over 10 yards from last year. Guess who had no responsibility for any of them? Who told you that safeties make all the plays and that 4.3 guys running 50 yards downfield are easy covers? That seems to be the narrative now. Oddly enough Xavier Worthy has toasted Bamas ass two years running including a top flight frosh safety this year and it hasn’t registered that shit ain’t easy. I guess their talent on the backend is dogshit. Do you know what kinda WR can’t beat a safety with the whole field available? A shitty WR.
  11. The 2005 team was special. They also scored 25 against OSU. A team likely less talented than the Bama one we just beat. They were also a Ting brother pick away from never winning a title. They had Greg. This years team will have just as many drafted as that team. Or at least in the ballpark. Some of those may come in 3/4 years whereas the 2005 guys were juniors and seniors. Sendlein, undrafted, probably had the 3rd best career in the NFL off that offensive team. This team, this program is set up that any starter will get an NFL look. Then you got guys like Kitan and Keilan who could be special teams guys at the next level.
  12. I saw it fly. He was motioning before it happened. Thought he was ticked about something. Guess with the puking the refs thought he needed a break.
  13. Dusty is the beat your friend almost to death guy. Chaisson May be the screwdriver guy that never amounting to anything of muc of the field.
  14. We need a replay after every play.
  15. Yes, we’re terrible at 50/50 balls. Probably since 2018 although I think Eagles brought in a few. We make those about 3/97 balls. As to the Worthy throw versus Wyoming, I think the DB raked his arms. Pretty decent coverage made better by the behind the WR throw.
  16. This is good stuff. When we struggle, it’s a little bit of everything. A free rusher. A penalty. A throw that’s a little off. A catchable ball but not caught ball. Versus Wyoming, there’s a lot of talk about drops, but that’s overplayed in my opinion. The throw to Helm is not a drop. It wasn’t a bad pass either. Here’s what needs to be remembered about Worthy. He’s never going to be the best hands guy, but we’ve also never had anyone that gets open like he does. He’s not Tyreek Hill, Jerry Rice and Bo Jackson all rolled into 1. Go figure. As best I can tell versus Wyoming play one, that defender impacted things. The first pass to Worthy was a poor throw. Hard to tell but defender probably got hand on it. It being a drop is a reach. The first throw to Mitchell is on the QB. Yes, Mitchell could have and maybe should catch it. The defender that people are claiming is a threat should never be a threat on that throw. The throw to Whittington was a drop mostly due to confusion. He basically stops running . That’s his fault but not sure he gets anything anyway. Cooks first ever pass? A drop no doubt. I’ve read that was a TD. Yeah, I guess if he can shake two unblocked defenders.
  17. Volleyball is fine but I don’t have a long standing tradition of attendance. There are several elements that Baylor incorporates. And they did it before us.
  18. But not calling a timeout left them the potential of a limited risk Hail Mary to end the half.
  19. It may be part timing too. QE throws it a bit hot and let’s it fly early on occasion as well. If it’s earlier than expected, off a bit and coming quick, that makes catching it a little more difficult.
  20. The play right after the penalty on the TD run for CSU the Colorado dude throat punched the C. No call obviously.
  21. Same shit on offense since the crack back was disallowed. You often see WRs come inside and stand in the way of a defender. I’m not sure what you call that other than a block. I suppose if we wish to be literal, then I guess there no actual block.
  22. Are you talking about the dude that didn’t run a real route, had no interest in looking like he wanted to catch a pass and blocked the defender?
  23. No a 6 year career is not typical. But it’s not typical that a dude comes to football late as a high schooler, works with 2/3 coaches under 2/3 schemes and misses a spring/summer/parts of a season either. Then the dude gets thrown at LT before he’s even mastered the RT spot and faces off against well above average to great players in the Big 12. He was more productive as a run blocker than in pass pro. And his struggle was mostly against quick twitch guys. So you say 4 year guy, but it was really his 3rd year, which is typically the natural progression for many Olinemen. He was heavily ridiculed and overly criticized. So what you highlighted was those handful of plays and perhaps even the meaningless stats I quoted - 1 sack, 1 pressure. Again against an NFL caliber dude. But certainly with 600 yards of offense and 50 plus points he made some good blocks in that game. I don’t have the stats now, but there are metrics from 2021 that says the run blocking was damn good. We also gave up fewer TFL that year than our opponents per game averages in all but 2/3 teams. We faced 3/4 top 10ish teams in that stat too. They were a well above average run blocking unit. But yes kudos to both Jones and Flood for where we are today. I just wish Jones hadn’t been a little bitch two years ago. So there. Your final word if you want it.
  24. A true leader wouldn’t seek permission.
  25. Versus KU in 2021 he allowed 1 sack and 1 pressure. That sack by the way was by a guy that played in 16 games the following year for the Super Bowl bound Philadelphia Eagles. Mostly special teams. Musta been a shitty player. Oh and two games later versus KSU, future Big 12 defender of the year, future NFL first rounder going against Jones had a whopping 3 tackles, no TFLs/sacks. Jones was no doubt out of position at LT in 2021 but that run blocking unit was the best we’ve had since probably 2006. The pass pro of that same team improved quite a bit over the course of the season. The sonofabitch moves people in the run game. He’s done that for a long time but bitchass fans ignored the positives because of the 1/2 piss poor plays in the pass game. And just ignore the fact that the Big 12 defensive playmakers in the front 7 that beat lots of guys to the QB that year. I’m not an advocate of Herman and his crew, but the understanding of Jones and his development is poorly understood and told. That said I hope the dude does get a 10 year run.
