Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet
Had Enough replied to Coach pop a bitch's topic in Football
Something is different but when “clean” per PFF, the ball is out from 2.18 seconds to 2.28 seconds over the past 3 years, but the average depth of target has dipped from 10.4 yards to 4.7 yards. His overall depth of target was down prior to Georgia and Vandy. He’s passed on some open guys this year but no idea how that compares year over year. I would almost wager that the Olines early season success in pass protection made his sense of urgency less and that’s working against him now that he is being rushed. On that corner blitz versus Georgia, I think in years past that ball is out of his hands. Even if he has another second, he’s not making a completion because he’s not ready to throw. It might also be that his WRs are all new so the trust isn’t quite there. -

That sounds good in theory. However, we’ve played 4 SEC defenses. One terrible, one mediocre and one that was a Big 12 team. Then one known to be more talented than everyone else. Nevermind that we played Bama each of the past two years and accuses in pass pro. The sacks from Georgia largely came from two guys. One a LBer who attacked some from off the ball. Both top 15-ish draft prospects. I can’t say exactly where they lined up on the specific plays but all the Vandy sacks came from guys listed as LBs or SS. The 3-3-5 should be more multiple in bringing pressure and in coverage too. -

Yes, you fucking idiot. I’ve watched all the games for years. Damn near all of them again. Can you name one other Duke offensive player this year? Any of them run a 4.2 40? A 4.3? Any projected 1st rounders on the Oline? First RBs taken? #1 recruits at RB? TCU brought the wood? It was 26-6 at the half and after 3. That’s bringing the wood. Please explain to me you cowardly chickenshit how that deathly environment didn’t kick in until the 4th? No, I don’t think Murphy is catching it like Mitchell caught it. But yeah he might have been able to throw that. Maybe he does not have to do it. As for ISU, they had 9 points thru 3 quarters. Comparatively speaking, our defense was better than our offense. Again, yes, we absolutely can win those games. No guarantees. I cannot prove you wrong that’s got certain. -

Have you not learned how one game is not transitive to the next? Ewers has turned the ball over 3 times in game yet he hasn’t done it every game. He did that versus OU. Had Murphy been the QB the entirety of the season, he’s likely better than what he was with isolated starts. In spite of the KSU turnovers, one of which was Brooks and a completely missed PI on KSU that could effectively lead to the game over at halftime, we scored 30 points in regulation. How does that compare to the ISU and TCU games from a sheer point standpoint? Comparable metrics. DFEI ranks. OU 15 KSU 16 Isu 48 BYU 51 TCU 60 Because this metric says the KSU defense is considerably better than TCU and ISU. BYUs offense was terrible. That’s why they weren’t any good. Interestingly enough, OU was 9th in OFEI, KSU was 10th. OU won 1 more game than KSU because they beat us. OU/KSU are comparable teams. Overall, we’re better than all those teams. When you get injuries different players take on more of the burden, the game plans change. Theres no guarantees, but we sure as shit were better than ISU and TCU. And both with young QBs. -

So he wasn’t 2-0 as starter? After 1 possession versus UH we were tied, and we won. He did a win a third of our Big 12 games. Again in my opinion, the KSU win was the most difficult Big 12 win that we actually got. I am not saying there was anything special about him or his play. By and large it was not a strong Big 12. We already had more talent than everyone else everywhere. We are beating the hell out of OSU in that championship game no matter what. But I suppose it’s correct that Murphy, Sweat, Worthy, Sanders, Brooks, Ford, Whittington, Robinson, Mitchell all got drafted because they were mediocre talents. By the way, I’m not arguing against Ewers in any fashion. I’m arguing in favor of those dudes and the guys still here that were big contributors. We were a damn team last year just as we are this year. No reason last year or this year to concede anything to anyone. -

It could be an interesting debate. In my opinion KSU was our most difficult Big 12 game resulting in a win last year. Maybe a missed PI call from being a blowout though. If we don’t beat Bama, we’re not in the playoff. Or maybe we are in if we beat OU. We absolutely could have beaten every Big 12 team with Murphy at QB. Obviously not guarantee but if so, that gives us a chance. It was not one of the more difficult Big 12 schedules we’ve faced. -
Arch has an average time to throw of 2.71 seconds at average depth of target at 10.7 yards. Last year Penix was 2.68 seconds. At 10.7 yards. Drake Maye at 2.79, 11.0. Nix. 2.44 at 6.8. McCarthy. 2.84 at 9.4. There are a number of variables and ways this is broken down. I’ve seen nothing within the numbers to indicate that Arch holds the ball too long. I’m sure occasionally, but that can be said for most QBs. There were comments about him not recognizing blitz versus MSU. Now we have the veteran getting tagged by an unseen blitzer. You can pretty much select certain plays from any QB that exhibit these same flaws. This week there have been several posters stating the Oline didn’t play as poorly as they thought. Point is that in real time its too difficult to see it all so perceptions can be distorted. In the end Arch hasn’t done enough of anything to know what he’s capable of doing consistently right now.

This stuff cracks me up how people react to it. It is pretty clear from the screenshot that if the QB could beat the spy, it’s a big play. If. You can’t tell from the screenshot but I’d guess going right or left has little impact unless the defender gets himself out of position. Now, an NFL guy could hit Moore. So could a college guy. Many of them could some of the time but none of them could all the time. That’s a hard throw though. I’m confident that many NFL starters are not hitting that consistently. -

Is that a spy? It looks like a spy. Thought they only did that for Arch. -

Does it matter? Not really. However, those games have repeatedly been brought up as justification for Ewers prowess. Pressure and adversity change people/QBs. Sark can be a great play caller. Is that accentuated in game 7 of the season or game 2, with game 1 not really requiring heightened game planning. And certainly Ewers hasn’t been hit or dinged up at that point in the season. I figure Ewers will play well versus Vandy. Sark likely dialed in better. The Oline ready. And overwhelm a mediocre Vandy defense with their talent advantage. Ewers played well against Michigan but that was largely scheme on the short stuff, and he was great breaking the pocket and hitting it downfield. But all season there hasn’t been an urgency to get it downfield. I’m not even talking deep passes I’m talking 10-19 yards. That’s where he was and can be excellent. In the limited opportunities, he has not been particularly good this year. We should win out the rest of the regular season. I don’t care which QB it is. They’re both capable. Neither have to be perfect. And maybe I just wanted a bonding moment with BO&W. -

I don’t agree with my little brother often, but Ewers has two of the most overhyped games of all time. The OU 49-0 game. They quit at half. They were terrible before they quit. He made some nice throws but also had one of the shittiest drives of all time ending in a pick. At least I think it was the same drive. The Bama game in which he played a quarter. Great start. Do you remember those great offensive starts in 2021 that petered out? Nevermind that Bama also had a great start and got locked down the next two quarters. Who knows how that finishes. Now, there’s a difference in the timing of the two Bama games and Michigan as compared to Georgia as well. Think about that in terms of health and game planning. -

The two minute offense for a backup QB that may have never run it in a live game is not a good basis for comparison. Arch could have been better as the starter. He could have been worse. There’s no way of knowing. -
I’d suggest you think back to September 2022 at DKR. Imagine a CB. Let’s call him Watts rushes off the edge and has a clear shot at the QB. Now imagine him at CB in DKR in October 2024. Only wearing a Georgia uniform. One might encourage you to call it again. The other? Well, would you?

He has the tools and the groundwork is laid. The best of the best don’t always make the correct choice so certainly he won’t either.

Bro, this was nothing like the opening drive pick thrown against OU last year. I’m assuming that’s the one you’re referencing. That was an in breaking route down the field with I believe the corner over the top. The Georgia CB gave a man look. I think the inside defender even moved more to Goldens inside. This is good DC work no doubt. It may have even impacted QE being hesitant to trust his eyes later in the game. -
That could be. I’m sure I can away thinking he could have run him deeper but didn’t really see how deep the QB was. As others mentioned it could be a communication issue. I’m not seeing how but if Sark says so, maybe it was.
-
Yeah, he should have thrown it away. I’d hope that he anticipated Golden being open to the inside given UGAs alignment. But he didn’t. I’m not saying it was easy not not impossible to identify presnap either. The drive before he went deep for Bond with Golden wide open across the middle. Similar route to what QE hit in opening drive 3Q.
-
No, they didn’t play terribly. The two strip sacks were Oline issues. The over/crossing route to Wingo was made more difficult due to pressure when Helm missed. Arch getting sacked the play before the strip sack was terrible blocking. Overall, I don’t think there was immense pressure and there were even clean pockets. All things considered the pass pro was decent. They did get beat a few times that we hadn’t seen this year that killed those plays however. QB play wasn’t good, but it was only partly attributable to pressure. That sack at the 1 I don’t really even consider that pressure. The dude was 10 yards upfield on the ground. in general terms, lots of pressure will kill you. In this particular game, I don’t think there was tons of pressure but more fits of it. The QBs just didn’t do a good job overall.
-
I’d argue differently. Qb ratings, numbers, grades plummet generally speaking under pressure. Many QBs can handle one man pressures but collapsing pockets with multiple pressure points is a different story. There’s a point at which a QB can’t overcome it. Go back to that Bucs-Chiefs Super Bowl. The better QB lost because of that shitshow around him. The other night we had a lot of 1 man pressures; however, it was very effective because we didn’t identify the quick read on at least two of them. But in my opinion the pressure was too heavy to make it easy, but it was not so overwhelming that we didn’t miss opportunities that could have been made.

Golden was open quite a bit. But he’s not a focal point so he doesn’t get the looks. Arch’s 1st and 2nd series were big play opportunities. The 4th down slant to Bond. I am not sure what’s a reasonable rate to not get to the open receiver but yesterday was certainly not the only QBs that have that. -
That’s not exactly true. I’d guess Ohio State, Bama and Georgia all have very similar records over the past 5 years. Seems like I just read that the last 3 years UGA has only lost to Bama. All conferences are that way give or take in any given year. The grind of a full season leaves no one immune. For lots of different reasons.
-
I saw the game. It was even at half with him playing that half. I’m not saying they don’t win but boat race and over 40. Not so sure.
-
Pretty sure they face masked one of our dudes on that play so at a minimum a rekick would have helped. The linesman on our side and back judge ignored some blatant calls.
-
I’m not sure the Badgers boat race The U with the QB at full health. Don’t think London played at all so not sure how impactful that would have been.
-
So what I’m getting out of this is you saying you’d whip Hondos ass. Is that correct?
