  1. Predicting how Texas A&M closes out the 2021 class VIP ByBRIAN PERRONI 43 seconds ago Share 0 Comments Texas A&M currently has 13 commitments in the class of 2021. Though that number is lower than many of its peers, the program is still in on a number of top prospects from both across the state and the country. The Aggies have room for 10 more players in the class as two that were originally in the 2020 class – running back Earnest Crownover and linebacker Kenneth Phillips III – will count toward this year’s 25-man limit. Though things could change, especially as A&M figures out the exact numbers it wants at each position, the final picture of what the class could look like is becoming more clear. Here is the best guess at the moment as to how things could end up come Signing Day. RB LJ JOHNSON, HOUSTON CY-FAIR (Photo: Brian Perroni, 247Sports) LJ Johnson is the top between-the-tackles back on the A&M board and the Aggies are in good shape with the 5-foot-10, 205-pound national top-50 prospect. Johnson has a top group of A&M, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Oklahoma and Texas but the Aggies, Longhorns and both Tigers are the main players at the moment. Texas is going all-out to land Johnson and the Horns have his attention but A&M has been very high in his mind for a long time and he likes what Fisher has done at the running back position over his career. Johnson does not have a specific announcement date as he simply plans to make his decision once he knows for sure where he wants to go. Should A&M start to not feel as great about landing Daniels, look for the Aggies to turn things up more in the recruitment of Byron Cardwell out of San Diego. RB AMARI DANIELS, MIAMI (FLA.) CENTRAL (Photo: Andrew Ivins, 247Sports) At one point, it looked like all-purpose back Amari Daniels was on the verge of a commitment to the Aggies. However, in-town Miami has made a big push as of late. The 5-foot-8, 195-pounder has said he would like to make a decision before his senior season starts and it will come down to the Aggies and the Canes. Daniels has been high on A&M since making a trip to Aggieland for camp last summer but Miami is landing a ton of homegrown talent, including five-star defensive tackle Leonard Taylor on Thursday. Should Daniels opt to stay closer to home, Klein Forest four-star all-purpose back Ahmonte Watkins would be the next to watch. WR TBD (Photo: Collin Kennedy, 247Sports) A&M has one wide receiver committed in Shadrach Banks and wants to take a second in the class. It is not an absolute necessity with the young talent they have on campus, but it is something the offensive staff would like. The question is then who it is likely to be but, right now, that is anybody’s guess. One thing that is clear, though is that they want a speedy wideout that can play either in the slot or outside. Aledo four-star JoJo Earle is the top target but he is currently committed to LSU and has shown no signs of wavering. McKinney North’s JJ Henry is also a player that fits the mold and is being recruited heavily. He plays things close to the vest but seems to be higher on some other schools as of late. Houston St. Thomas’ Cameron Bonner was recently offered and could very well end up in the class if he is pushed. A&M could also look at some of the ‘athlete’ offers like Yulkeith Brown out of Miami. OG BRYCE FOSTER, KATY TAYLOR (Photo: Brian Perroni, 247Sports) A&M has three offensive line commitments at the moment with the number likely to be five by the time the class is wrapped up. The Aggies are going very tackle-heavy but Bryce Foster is the exception as they love him on the interior. The 6-foot-4.5, 330-pound national top-100 prospect is a road-grader that is also one of the nation’s top track and field recruits. He plans to play football and throw in college. Foster’s mother went to A&M and his older brother was a walk-on lineman for the Aggies. Foster has also been to College Station numerous times. Right now, though, Oklahoma is out front with Oregon also picking up some momentum. Foster does not plan to announce until his 18th birthday, which is Dec. 18 and the final day of the Early Signing Period. The Aggies will have that time to continue selling the program familiarity but also to show him that the team has improved a ton with its play on the field this fall. If Foster does not end up at A&M, there might not be an interior prospect signed in the class. OT JAVONNE SHEPHERD, BUTLER (KAN.) C.C. (Photo: Scott Wachter, USA TODAY Sports) A&M wanted to sign Javonne Shepherd out of high school in the class of 2019 but the four-star from Houston North Forest chose Texas instead. However, after a semester in Austin, he decided to transfer. Shepherd decided at that point that he would transfer to A&M but transcript issues forced him to go the junior college route and he arrived at Butler this spring. A&M wants to see Shepherd in game action, since it has been awhile for him, but with the JUCO season having been pushed back to the spring and Shepherd set to graduate in December, it could get interesting. He might end up being a take regardless but, with no spring ball either, he could also opt to stay an extra semester and play the season. If A&M does not end up with Shepherd, look for the Aggies to press current Arkansas commit Devon Manuel out of Louisiana even harder. They also could get Missouri pledge Connor Tollison on campus for an official visit. DE/DT MARCUS BURRIS, TEXARKANA PLEASANT GROVE (Photo: @MarcusBurris8) Defensive line recruiting this year is interesting in that the Aggies are after a number of players that could end up either at end or tackle. They have a commitment already from edge rusher Jahzion Harris but he could be the only true end in the class when it is done. Marcus Burris was a longtime A&M lean before Oklahoma worked really hard this spring to change that. He was very close to committing to the Sooners, but decided to hold off. Now, the Aggies have worked their back into a tie at the top. Texas is also on his public top three but the Longhorns are not likely to land him. The 6-foot-4, 280-pound defender could have a better future at tackle, even if he starts his career by staying at end. After a recent Achilles injury that will sideline him for his senior season, Burris’ recruitment has slowed a bit. However, he is still a player that A&M likes and it is beginning to look more and more like the Aggies will win out in the end. He wants to announce at some point in August. DE/DT SHEMAR TURNER, DESOTO (Photo: Brian Perroni, 247Sports) Shemar Turner very well might be the top defensive lineman in the state in a year where it is absolutely loaded with good players. The 6-foot-3.5, 282-pounder is incredibly athletic for his size but is another player who’s future might be on the interior. Turner has a top five of A&M, Alabama, Georgia, LSU and Texas but the Aggies, Tide and Longhorns are the three main competitors. He really likes A&M defensive ends coach Terry Price and likes how the Aggies have shown him what the Aggie Network could possibly do to help him with the Name, Image and Likeness rule going into effect next season. A&M is very much in this and some people close to Turner feel the Aggies could be in the best position. But, Texas and Alabama both have reasons for optimism too. This is going to be a tough battle that lasts until the end of the season but it’s a very real possibility he ends up in College Station. DT TYWONE MALONE, BERGEN (N.J.) ORADELL CATHOLIC (Photo: Andrew Ivins, 247Sports) Tywone Malone would be an absolutely huge get for the Aggies if they were able to go into New Jersey and lure a player to Texas that every other school in the country is after. The 6-foot-3.5, 300-pounder is ranked as the No. 53 prospect in the country and, though he has a top five, it is shaping up to be a battle between A&M and Ohio State. Malone has built a very good relationship with his position coach Elijah Robinson, who hails from New Jersey himself, and really enjoyed Aggieland on a visit. But Ohio State is recruiting as well as anybody right now and has the distance advantage. Still, A&M has as good or better a chance than the Buckeyes with him. Though you don’t see many baseball players his size, Malone is also a legitimate DI talent on the diamond as well and plans to play both sports in college. Playing SEC baseball is a draw for him as well. DT TALEEQ ROBBINS, PHILADELPHIA (PA.) IMHOTEP (Photo: @LeeqRobbins11) It is going to be interesting to see what the Aggies do at the defensive tackle position. If A&M lands all three players above, there might not be a need for another interior player as they also have Victory Vaka committed. Still, the Aggies like Taleeq Robbins a lot and he also hails from Robinson’s recruiting territory. Robbins is close friends with A&M cornerback commit Tyreek Chappell and the two have long talked about playing together. Robbins really wants to play in the SEC and A&M has long been seen as the most likely destination with Georgia and Ole Miss also up there. If A&M continues to push, he will likely be an Aggie. But, at this point, that is not a given. No matter what, A&M is also going to keep recruiting five-star Katy Tompkins defensive end Tunmise Adeleye, a current Ohio State commit. He is still in talks with A&M, Alabama and Florida. The Aggies are also still in communication with three-star tackle Jerrell Boykins Jr. out of Louisiana as well. Four-star defensive end Monkell Goodwine from Virginia is a top target too but, at this point, looks likely to commit to Alabama when he announces next weekend. CB/S MJ DANIELS, LUCEDALE (MISS.) GEORGE COUNTY (Photo: Sun Herald) A&M currently has an outstanding secondary class with a trio corners and a safety the Aggies absolutely love. Though there could potentially be six defensive backs signed, five is maybe a more likely number at this point. MJ Daniels is a versatile defender who could play either cornerback or safety. The Aggies are recruiting the 6-foot-3, 185-pounder as a corner but the fact that he could play either makes him an even more valuable prospect. A&M signed a teammate of Daniels in the 2020 class in top-50 defensive tackle McKinnley Jackson and he has been in the defensive back’s ear a lot. Daniels was once an Ole Miss commit and is still looking at the Rebels with fellow in-state program Mississippi State also making a push, but A&M is in good shape with him. A&M will continue to recruit four-star safety Terrion Arnold out of Florida heavily. Tysheem Johnson out of Philadelphia and a potential junior college target are other options

  3. wants to play Safety. OU recruited him as a LBer. Fisher tells him what he wants to hear. Will probably end up playing LBer at the next level

  10. Fat Hamm Recruiting Country: The latest recruiting news surrounding the Maroon & White By Ryan Brauninger July 1, 2020 1.4k 0 Tweet Share Key notes from Recruiting Country Houston is shut down. I'm out until July 13. I went to a camp last week, but that might be my last recruiting trip for a while. A mask was required at the camp for players, trainers and media. Players wore masks to get into the building. Some of them started wearing a mask but took them off as the camp went on. Looking forward to Tyreek Chappell's decision on July 4, it will happen at 8:30 p.m., so when you're getting ready to pop your fireworks, A&M might also be popping some fireworks. That's the big one to watch for here. I know that A&M has worked on Donovan McMillon‍ (pictured above)‍, but I expect him to commit him to Florida. He has family ties to Florida that have helped him out a lot there. I wouldn't be shocked if A&M got him on campus for an official visit, though. Elko is as good a recruiter as any, but I'm not sure A&M will be able to sell on-field success against them. If he does commit to Florida, it would not be an easy flip. Chappell's commitment would help a lot with Taleeq Robbins‍. He could be a big shot in the arm for one of those interior defensive line spots. He might even be able to play both inside and outside. He's a very talented guy. I'm thinking Albert Regis‍ will be an interior defensive lineman, but I need to see him before I'm solid on that. A&M is battling Michigan for Chappell. Along with the in-state school, Penn State; those are his final three schools. Turn on the tape for Chappell and tell me he's only a three-star prospect. You can't. He has the skills, and he does it all at a high level. He doesn't have defensive highlights, but you can see what you're looking for in his offensive highlights. You saw that John Chavis looked for a particular body type in defensive backs. You're seeing now that Elko and this staff put more of an emphasis on speed and if you can cover. That's what you've seen them take with Deuce Harmon‍,‍ and that's what they're after here with Tyreek Chappell. Kaci Seegars‍ is the most undervalued commit. Look at his tape and tell me it's not elite linebacker tape. I watched it and was like, "Whoa. I can see why A&M wants to take this kid." He would've improved his stock a ton throughout the summer if he had the opportunity. His physicality and ability to move would've been on display in all of these camps. If he's the only linebacker that comes in during this class, that should tell you what Tyler Santucci, Mike Elko and Jimbo Fisher think about Kaci Seegars. A&M is not hurting on facilities since they've moved to the SEC. They are right up there with the best nationally. The campus energy with people on for game days it is much different. The campus is pretty nice and has plenty of new buildings. A&M is not going to take a backseat to anybody with attractiveness in the football facilities and the athletic facilities. They also talk a lot about the Aggie Network with recruits and the impact that has. A&M is making moves with Dreyden Norwood‍. He's a corner from Arkansas and is arguably the best player in that state. They'll have to battle Arkansas and then Oklahoma for him. If A&M lands Chappell, they'll likely take one or two more. If they have to land one of Norwood, MJ Daniels‍ , and De'Jahn Warren, then you'll feel a lot better about where they stand in the defensive backfield. Bryce Foster‍ is struggling with his decision. He's a phenomenal kid from a phenomenal family. He wants to make everyone happy, and he knows he's going to make a decision that will disappoint two of the schools in his top three. He doesn't want to do that. He's a happy-go-lucky kind of kid. He was sick and couldn't work out for a while, but he's back throwing the shot and the disc, which he loves to do. This decision is really eating at him. I think he'll stick with his early signing day decision as long as that early signing day opportunity is still there, assuming the NCAA doesn't take it away
  11. Bryce Foster update Brian PerroniSTAFF Posted on 51 mins, V I P, User Since 202 months ago, User Post Count: 0 51 minsVIP 202 months It's going to take me a while to transcribe, so I will have the full write-up in the morning. -He still says he plans to take officials to all five of his finalists - A&M, LSU, Oklahoma, Oregon and Texas - before making a decision. However, he is also aware that it might not end up happening if the dead period keeps being extended. If that's the case, he has been to every one of those schools at least once, so he could potentially make a decision without the trips. -He says he is genuinely torn at this point. He and his dad have made a graph on the computer with a whole bunch of different criteria and he ranks them all from 1-10 in those criteria. He updates it every week or two weeks. He says all five schools are neck and neck there. He actually says that he wishes he had a school standing out, to make things easier. -His mom and brother are Aggies but tell him they support him in whatever he decides. But, he also says they definitely have a favorite school in A&M. -He has spoken with the track coaches at every school. With A&M, he had a zoom call with Jimbo Fisher, Josh Henson, Pat Henry and throwing coach Juan De La Garza. They spoke about what his schedule would look like and how to best maximize his potential in both sports. -He knows Reuben Fatheree and says that is a draw to A&M. Also, he says Katy Taylor is known as an 'A&M school' with a bunch of students and football players both ending up in Aggieland. He also has a draw to Texas, though, with teammate Hayden Conner and friend Jalen Milroe committed there as well. -Out of the head coaches at the five schools, he speaks to Lincoln Riley and Ed Orgeron the most. He says he talks to both of them at least once a week.
