Under Armour Dallas: VIP recruiting news and notes VIP ByDAMON SAYLES 18 minutes ago Share 0 Comments ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Under Armour All-America Camp Series made a stop in the Dallas area on Sunday, hosting a multitude of athletes from Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. Martin High School, in addition, saw several athletes who have been affiliated with Texas A&M, whether its via offers or by way of a mutual interest. Here are a few notes from Sunday's action: (Photo: Damon Sayles, 247Sports) -- Lancaster, Texas, 4-star cornerback Lorando Johnson spoke in depth about his recruiting process, first acknowledging that his original top three of Texas A&M, LSU and Arkansas is no longer on the table. While those three schools are still high on his list -- and he said all three most likely will get an official visit -- he's looking at schools like TCU, Baylor and Ohio State, as well. Johnson spoke highly of Texas A&M and said he's planning on making it to College Station for the spring game in April. -- Dallas Carter 4-star defensive tackle Branard Wright is one of the biggest prizes of the 2020 recruiting cycle in Texas. He measured in at 6-foot-3 and 300 pounds, and he spoke about narrowing his choices down "deep in the spring," possibly April. He likes Texas A&M because of defensive tackles coach Elijah Robinson, and he added that while some may think he's an LSU lean, that isn't 100 percent accurate. He said Texas A&M not only is in hunt but also will get an official visit. Schools like Florida, Texas, Alabama, Florida State and Arkansas, as well as LSU, are in the mix along with the Aggies. -- Little Elm, Texas, 3-star cornerback Ryan Watts picked up a Texas A&M offer on Feb. 3, the same day as the Aggies' Super Bowl get-together. He mentioned that Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Texas are the three schools recruiting him the hardest. He is looking at the weekend of April 12 for an official visit to Oklahoma. That's the weekend of Oklahoma's spring game. He added that he plans on taking an unofficial visit to Arkansas on March 30. (Photo: Damon Sayles, 247Sports) -- Aggie fans received not-so-great news when Duncanville, Texas, 4-star Chris Thompson Jr. announced that Texas is his top in-state school. That may be news to some, but consider the fact that Thompson is coached at Duncanville by Reginald Samples -- who is the father of Ra'Shaad Samples, the assistant receivers coach at Texas. While Texas leads as his in-state choice, that doesn't mean he'll necessarily stay in state. He added that Clemson and LSU are two schools very much alive in his recruiting process. -- Aggie fans also should bypass on the idea of Prosper, Texas, offensive tackle Jake Majors coming to College Station. The 4-star lineman has been committed to Texas since Jan. 24 and said he's "100 percent solid" with the Longhorns. Majors, who measured in a 6-foot-3 and 290 pounds, added that schools like Stanford and USC were still keeping close tabs on him. -- With a state championship now on his resume, Longview, Texas, dual-threat quarterback Haynes King said he has heard from schools such as Baylor, TCU, Arkansas and Tennessee. King said he hasn't heard much from Texas A&M but is keeping all of his recruiting options open. He's looking for a place where there is a "consistency of the coaching staff" and a place where he can develop as a quarterback. He also wanted to be academically set with a quality degree. (Photo: Damon Sayles, 247Sports) -- One of the most impressive-looking athletes of Sunday was defensive end Blayne Toll out of Hazen, Arkansas. Ranked the No. 2 player in the state of Arkansas, Toll is a chiseled 6-foot-5, 239-pound athlete who bench presses 375 pounds. He said he wants to go to college as a defensive end but wouldn't overlook the idea of playing tight end. Arkansas is a major contender in Toll's process, but Tennessee is definitely a team to watch. He said he hasn't heard from Texas A&M. -- Sachse, Texas, 3-star Myles Nash isn't the biggest athlete, but his explosiveness makes him a player to watch. The 5-foot-6, 171-pound all-purpose back has offers from Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Illinois State, and he's been in contact with Baylor. Nash is a shifty scatback who can also line up in the slot and serve as a matchup problem with his quick twitch and cutting ability. (Photo: Damon Sayles, 247Sports) -- Carthage, Texas, 3-star offensive tackle Ty'Kieast Crawford, on the surface, already looks like a college offensive lineman. The Baylor commit is 6-foot-5 and 318 pounds, and while he's strong with his pledge, he said schools like TCU, Arkansas, Tennessee and Missouri have been heavily recruiting him. Crawford said he hasn't heard much from Texas A&M but will always keep the door open to hear from programs. Crawford has been committed to Baylor since July 29. -- The Colony, Texas, athlete Myles Pricecan play running back, wide receiver or cornerback at the next level. The 3-star talent has been in touch with Texas A&M, but the Aggies have yet to offer. Price has 11 reported offers, which includes Texas Tech, Washington State, SMU and Arkansas State. Price recorded 57 catches for 906 yards, rushed 62 times for 661 yards and accounted for 24 total touchdowns. -- 2020 receiver Keith Miller, also of The Colony, has a dozen reported offers and said he is hearing mostly from Washington State, Colorado, Kansas, Texas Tech and Ole Miss. At 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds, Miller is an intriguing player who Texas A&M hasn't offered but has shown some interest in the past. He's looking to play at a school where he has a solid bond with the coaching staff, as well as a school with a good architecture program. -- Denton (Texas) Ryan 2021 Ja'Tavion Sanders is a do-it-all athlete. At the Under Armour event, he lined up as a tight end and made several nice plays. Some think he'll make an even better defensive end at the next number. At nearly 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds, Sanders said Texas A&M is a school he's hearing from a lot. Texas and Oklahoma also are in the mix, but the Aggies can score big with Sanders, a versatile athlete with a very high ceiling. -- Duncanville, Texas, 2021 offensive tackle Savion Byrd caught the attention of multiple media members with his size and play. He measured in at 6-foot-5 and 265 pounds and is planning on lining up at left tackle when he arrives at his college of choice. Byrd nearly has 20 reported offers, but he said SMU is a school that has been heavily on him as of late. Byrd added that he has interest in LSU. (Photo: Damon Sayles, 247Sports) -- Copperas Cove, Texas, 2021 offensive tackle McKenzie Agnello is doing all of the right things to prepare for college football. For starters, he's slimmed down from 317 pounds to 289 pounds and is looking to build muscle to where he's back at 300 pounds in time for his junior season. Agnello, who stands 6-foot-3, said he's heard some from Texas A&M, as well as Texas and TCU, but he's heard mostly from Texas Tech as of late. -- Fort Worth All Saints Episcopal offensive tackle Tommy Brockermeyerwas one of two 2020 Future 50 invitees -- the other being Aledo, Texas, 2021 slot receiver JoJo Earle. Brockermeyer said he's been hearing mostly from Texas, TCU and Michigan as of late. He did say he's heard from Texas A&M, but he described it as a "little bit." Brockermeyer said he's looking to play for a team "that produces and develops NFL linemen

Perroni Texas A&M hosted close to 100 prospects on Sunday for its second annual Super Bowl party. The Aggies had a ton of talent on campus, including several composite five-stars and even more four-stars. As of Sunday evening, there were two commitments to come at the event. That is the same number that came in a year ago and also like last year, there was definitely some momentum built. NEW COMMITS The first player to the Aggies on Sunday had actually been in town since late Friday night. Baton Rouge (La.) Madison Prep defensive back Major Burns, who could play either cornerback or safety, made it a weekend in College Station with three other prospects from Baton Rouge. Offered only a couple weeks ago, the 6-foot-1.5, 181-pound speedy defender was blown away by the campus and everything else on Saturday. The Crystal Ball predictions starting rolling in at that time for a reason and he made his commitment a little before 1 p.m. Sunday. That made Burns the first defensive commit in the class. He would not be the only one on that list for long, though. During the first quarter, Cibolo Steele four-star cornerback Jaylon Jones also announced his commitment to A&M. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound junior was close to making a commitment to the Aggies back during the season and decided to go ahead and do it on Sunday. He spent much of the evening recruiting other players as well. Jones was also high on both Florida and Texas with the Longhorns seemingly holding momentum after a recent Junior Day. However, he says he has shut things down now. NEW OFFERS Though not quite as many offers as expected went out, the staff did give out a few. They seem to be taking a more cautious approach this year and will likely send out more in-state ones during spring ball. The first player to receive his offer was Alvin Shadow Creek safety Xavion Alford. Making his second trip in three weekends, the 6-foot, 174-pound defender added the Aggies to an impressive list of offers that have come in the last month or so. He is high on A&M and it was an offer he wanted, but he plans to wait a little bit before committing anywhere. The next one to be offered was Little Elm cornerback Ryan Watts. A big defender at 6-foot-2, 187 pounds, he did not hold a single offer three weeks ago. Arkansas was the first to give him one and now his total is at 17. With all of the recruiting attention being brand new to him, Watts is not anywhere close to making a commitment anywhere. The final new offer went to a familiar name in A&M Consolidated wide receiver Devin Price, the son of Aggie defensive ends coach Terry Price. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound junior was really hoping for that offer and says it is the same offer with the same (lack of) restrictions as everyone else. There had been talk of a potential grayshirt or blueshirt if Price was up to it. There are some Crystal Ball predictions for A&M and it would be a bit of a surprise if he did not end up as an Aggie when all is said and done. A FEW PLAYERS MISSING There were a couple of highly-ranked prospects that had said they would be there that didn't make the trip. That group is led by five-star North Shore running back Zachary Evans. Originally scheduled to spent Saturday night in town, he ended up not making it Sunday either. Evans is likely going to be an uphill battle. The other five-star running back that was set to be there was Aledo's Jase McClellan, who has been committed to Oklahoma for some time. His mother had a work emergency so he is working to set up another weekend to visit in the near future. A few other bigger names that did not end up making the trip were Fort Bend Marshall slot Devon Achane, North Shore offensive tackle Damieon George, Memphis (Tenn.) Freedom Prep offensive tackle Chris Morris, Hebron safety Darius Snow and Coppell sophomore athlete KJ Liggins. BIG MOMENTUM Even before Sunday's event began, the Aggies were off to a good start for the weekend. One of the players on the trip with Burns was LSU four-star defensive tackle commit Jaquelin Roy. While he remains committed to the hometown Tigers, A&M made a big impression on him and at least has given him something to seriously think about. The Aggies feel they did as much as possible with him. Fort Bend Austin wide receiver Troy Omeire did not plan to make a commitment this weekend and kept to that. However, after joining several other recruits on campus beginning Saturday, A&M is in good standing with him. He has gone back and forth with the Aggies and Longhorns but A&M has spent the most time at the top of his list and things look good with him. The Aggies are still in good shape with Fort Bend Marshall four-star quarterback Malik Hornsby. It still appears the national top-100 prospect is likely to be A&M's quarterback in the class. Mansfield Timberview cornerback Jalen Kimber went into the weekend saying he was not planning to commit and, like Omeire, kept to that. However, the Aggies are in good shape there as well. It is likely to be an A&M/Texas battle for Bastrop Cedar Creek defensive end Alfred Collins. He was able to spend a lot of one-on-one time with the coaches, which he liked. Collins does not plan to make a decision until his senior season but just continuing to get him back on campus is big. One of the other big in-state defensive ends in the class is Houston Cy Ridge four-star Vernon Broughton. The 6-foot-5, 280-pound defender is high on Alabama, LSU and Texas but A&M at least made up ground on that trio Sunday. He, too, spent quite a bit of time with Fisher. The same is the case with Dallas Carter four-star defensive tackle Branard Wright, who has long been highest on LSU. Garland Lakeview Centennial sophomore running Camar Wheatonhas some serious speed for a big back at 6-foot, 190 pounds. He is a pretty quiet kid but was also very impressed by what he saw in Aggieland. A&M is in good shape early with him. The Aggies also did a very good job with another North Shore prospect, class of 2021 athlete Shadrach Banks. The top-rated sophomore athlete in the country, Banks was originally offered by A&M as linebacker after camp this past summer. However, after a huge season for the Mustangs, it seems it would be tough to play him anywhere but wide receiver. That's where he spent Sunday and there is some talk from a couple different people that he could be the one to break the A&M drought at North Shore, where the last player the Aggies signed was in the class of 2000. Katy Tompkins class of 2021 defensive end Tunmise Adeleye admits he was pretty high on Texas coming in but that the Aggies reminded him of why he has always liked the school, even since A&M was the first to offer. "It reaffirmed everything I originally fell in love with at A&M," he said. POTENTIAL OFFERS Though the three offers went out, a few others could be in line for them at some point in the not-too-distant future as well. Arlington athlete Jahari Rogers is a high school quarterback but could play either cornerback or receiver at the next level. He met with Jimbo Fisher and is supposed to talk to the head coach again tomorrow. The staff wants to figure out where he would best fit. A&M has only offered two total tight ends in the class and none in the state of Texas. Dallas Bishop Dunne's Elijah Yelverton is the highest-ranked one and was in town Sunday. He says that the Aggies are going to evaluate him more in the spring and he understands how selective they are being at the position. Stafford edge rusher Robert Wooten is still a player the Aggies are high on as well. The 6-foot-3, 230-pound defensive end/linebacker is one that could earn an offer soon. A&M has offered a trio of in-state sophomore quarterbacks but another to watch is Jalen Milroe of Katy Tompkins. Fisher went by the school Friday and liked what he saw from the 6-foot-1, 175-pound dual-threat prospect. There was some thought that he could receive an offer Sunday and, while that didn't happen, he is still one to keep an eye on going forward. Dallas Skyline wide receiver Quaydarius Davis is a 2021 prospect that will likely pick up an offer before long. The 5-foot-11, 186-pound sophomore t has seen some big ones come in early and will be a national recruit. A&M is high on him. OUT-OF-STATE VISITORS Despite the event being on a Sunday night, A&M had several prospects from outside the borders of the Lone Star State. In addition to Burns and Roy, the two other Baton Rouge players to make the trip were Madison Prep four-star athlete Joel Williams and Southern Lab sophomore wide receiver Theodore Knox. Knox has yet to be offered but Williams is a big cornerback target for the Aggies. Muscle Shoals, Ala., four-star linebacker Jackson Bratton is committed to the in-state Crimson Tide, but that did not stop him from spending the entire weekend in College Station. Houma (La.) Terrebonne four-star wide receiver Ja'Khi Douglas has some impressive offers, including from much of the SEC. The 5-foot-9, 184-pound junior has not been offered by A&M just yet but made his way to town Sunday. 12COMMENTS Another top Louisiana wide receiver in attendance was sophomore Chris Hilton of Zachary. The 5-foot-11, 166-pound class of 2021 prospect has offers from much of the SEC as well. The final out-of-state visitor was also the highest-ranked one. For the second time, Virginia Beach (Va.) Prince Anne five-star class of 2021 cornerback Tony Grimes spent close to a week in town. In fact, after arriving on Thursday, he is still there and does not plan to leave until Tuesday

Jimbo 2019: The Only Tail Getting Busted is Candi's

My Wednesday night recruiting take Liucci Staff 12:53a, 1/31/19 Pulled these two replies from another thread and wanted to sticky them for those of you weren't looking for them: Poster comment: "Looks more and more like we are going to whiff on our main remaining targets. Are there any other names out there that we haven't heard about? I'm still holding out hope for Russell, but who knows. Sounds like Shep is a sip. Lee is going to LSU. We struck out with Ward and Williams at CB. Hoping we have some other options. If not, it sounds like Smith will get a spot. Will we go ahead and sign Mowry and Ellison and hope they qualify." My Reply: A lot wrong with this one. First, they're very unlikely to sign two guys (if) they think they won't qualify. Second, Shepherd is far from a lock to Texas, even if Brauny is starting to feel like it seems like he'll likely fall that way. Far from a lock and there are those close to his recruitment who still believe he'll be an Aggie. Just really tough to tell at this point. I think everyone is getting caught up in the 'last visit' thing but I don't think it's wise to try and figure out where Shepherd's head is at in all of this. Most felt for a while that he was going to flip very late from the Horns to the Aggies and that could still be the case. We really won't know probably until Tuesday at the earliest (either way). I feel pretty confident on Chris Russell at this point in time. To say "we struck out" with Ward and Williams isn't true either. The Ags really backed away from Ward following his visit, to the point that I'm not sure he'd even have an LOI in front of him next week. Williams definitely feels like he'll end up in Baton Rouge with the last visit and it being so much closer to home but if last year and this cycle has taught you anything, it would probably be to not count Jimbo, Dameyune Craig and the Ags out of a late recruitment...especially in Alabama. How quickly we're all forgetting how Fisher and the Aggies closed last February and how many guys signed with A&M in December who were penciled in as 'locks' or 'heavy leans' elsewhere earlier in the process. Names like Leal, Wright, Richardson and Green come immediately to mind. There was also that time the Ags lost Calzada to Georgia and the whole "A&M has zero chance with Elijah Blades" thing. Let's see how this plays out, as I think the Russell, Shepherd and Williams aren't close to being set in stone." Poster comment: "Good stuff Looch. Odds are we get one of our targets to go along with Mowry and I suppose Smith. It could happen but it's hard for me to picture that based on Jimbo's track record that we whiff on everyone we've had in. If it happens is it possible we just sign 25 and don't fill the last ship? My reply: "Right now, I'd say my confidence meter is highest with Russell, followed by Shepherd and then Williams. I'd say I'm at around 60% with Russell, 45/55 with Javonne (and there's part of me that still thinks he's had a very specific plan that he's stuck with over the past two months or so) and maybe 40/60 with Christian. Here's the thing to remember: Last year heading down the stretch (the final week or so), the guys up in the air that few thought were leaning A&M's way included a wavering Leon O'Neal, Bobby Brown, Jashaun Corbin, James Foster, Vernon Jackson (I could honestly see Shepherd's decision literally changing several times on NSD much like Jackson's did ), Glenn Beal, Jeremiah Martin, Tank Jenkins and Charles Strong. Heck, even in December of this year, the drama that went the Ags' way when most on the boards thought it wouldn't happen included the Calzada-Georgia stuff, Elijah Blades and Derick Hunter -
